View Full Version : Top 10 TEEN Flicks. . . . . .

All I know is that they don't make them like they use to (with a few exceptions). I mean what is this crap of late?!?

John Hughes knew how to do a teen flick.

Cameron Crowe knew how to do a teen flick.

Before seeing LOSER, I probably would have said that Amy Heckerling knew how to do a teen flick.

My list (in no particular order) :

HEATHERS--Dark comedy at its finest! Its writer, Daniel Waters, said one of the most on point quotes (in my opinion) on writing. He said (paraphrasing), "Writing on a schedule is like sitting on the toilet when you don't need to go."

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF---This is a classic. Ferris like wrote the book on playing hooky. And who can resist his pathetic friend Cameron?

THE BREAKFAST CLUB---Detention has never been so entertaining.

SIXTEEN CANDLES---Anthony Michael Hall gets me each time.

FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH---Love it when Judge Reinhold's character finally gets some redemption. Sean Penn was even a genius back then.

SAY ANYTHING---Pretty much anything that has John Cusack or Cameron Crowe’s name attached to it is money. And Crowe wrote # 5 so. . . .

CLUELESS---A smart adaption of a Jane Austen novel.

SCREAM---Witty teen satirical horror.

DAZED & CONFUSED---Let’s see if Richard Linklater hits Amy Heckerling status with this “Stars of Tomorrow” cast.

CRUEL INTENTIONS---A surprisingly entertaining version of Dangerous Liasons.

Honorable Mentions (that I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’ve seen more than once): Weird Science, Just One Of the Guys, Adventures In Babysitting, The Last American Virgin, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind Of Wonderful, etc.

I have seen Breakfast Club more times than I can count and can quote the whole movie.

Any 80's movie with John Cusack, especially Say Anything.

Lost Boys- Great horror film

Goonies- I just love this movie

I really did like One Crazy Summer, Better off Dead, and as I have gotten older Say anything, The Sure Thing
Pretty much anything with John Cusack from that era. And Grosse Pointe Blank, which is dare i say it, a sequel of sorts to most teen movies.

Especially Hughues in his prime.
Early John Cryer, hey man Hiding Out is hilarious! Morgan Stewarts Coming Home anybody?
Even modern stuff like American Pie, Road Trip or countless horror movies. I am 23 and feel that i grew up, in the eighties, in the prime of teen films.

and now i can sit back and watch this imitations and wonder if todays teens are getting as much out of these modern incarnations as I did when i was growing up.

Totally agree man!

THE LOST BOYS---I always find myself singing that song that Corey Haim was singing in the bathtub. I love this movie!

GOONIES---If you catch it on Disney, you'll get some extra, never seen before, scenes. Cindi Lauper was on the soundtrack if I'm not mistaken. Love this one too!

ANYTHING W/ JOHN CUSACK---Definitely. Anyone ever see THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN? Love ONE CRAZY SUMMER. Love BETTER OFF DEAD--"I want my two dollars!"

FLICKS W/JON CRYER---Loved his tribute to Otis Redding in PRETTY IN PINK. I've seen MORGAN STEWART'S COMING HOME more times than I've seen a lot of movies. That whole bit with him singing on the stairwell and buffing the floor and pretend skiing by the Lincoln Memorial---I'm always entranced. And also love HIDING OUT. Everytime I think about that movie I think about that song CRYING OVER YOU or whatever it's called.
