With all the Pete Rose stuff I thought this topic would be interesting.
I love sports and would love to play pro sports, but alas, I'm an amature.
Sports are great entertainment and I respect the athletes, but lets be serious. Does anyone on this forum make 10 mill or more a year? I know it's not me.
Closest thing I have to 10 mill are bills. So, what does everyone think? Should athletes make that kind of money when they only entertain us a few months each year?

I wish.
If I did I could sit at home all day and retire. That reminds me the Super 7 Lotto Jackpot is $17.5 million should have gotten a ticket.

I'm a millionaire, myself. I'm one of the genius's who sued a fast food restaurant for spilling coffee on myself. ;)
Yes, athletes deserve every penny they earn. As long as people dish out their money to watch them, listen to them, and buy their products they deserve it. It's the same with actors and actresses as well as singers. As long as the consumers like ourselves spend the dough on them, they deserve it.

I agree, word for word. Thanks Moviefan, now I don't have to type that all in. ;)
If the owners are willing to pay the exorbitant amounts they do for the players, then we shouldn't blame the players for accepting it. After all, we'd do the same if we were in the player's shoes. Besides, the owners are smart, they didn't become millionaires/billionaires from not having any business sense. If they want to pay out of their nose for a player they must see the value in it.

agreed.
Hey, who wouldnt want to take home a 25 thousand dollar pay check for every game they play? What gets me is that they all get there meal money. All these guys get 50 bucks a day outside of there salary to "eat"
ahh, if only I could have been born a lefty, pumped with steroids and could throw a change up.

Agreed if owners want to be stupid let them be stupid.

Deserve is not a word that comes to mind when I think of the salaries pro athletes make in exchange for the type of work they do. I can think of professions that are much more deserving. But if the owners are stupid enough to dish out that kind of money, what can you do?
I suppose the only thing that would seriously make me object to these sky high salaries is if, as a result, the price of games rose to the point where the average person couldn't even attend a game anymore. At that point pro sports would no longer be for everyone, they would only be for the wealthy. Aren't we sort of there already? I don't have any professional games to go to here in Eugene because we don't have any pro sports teams, but I hear season tickets can be quite pricey.

Even college games can be way over priced. The OU-TX game this year was $500 for a mediocre seat.
Needless to say, I watched it on t.v.
That was college. A pro sports seat I'd be afraid to find out.

My theory has always been that if somehow I woke up tomorrow and was a stud at some sport (with my luck it would be soccor) I would not demand much too exorbidant of a salary from my team. Most tops athletes pay checks from the team is just a drop in the bucket in their total income. There real money comes from endorsements.
So if I was Lebron James I'd take a smaller salary and allow the cavs to surround me with a great team knowing that the real dough is rolling in from Nike and all the other companies he endorses. And the more titles Lebron wins the more money that will roll in from endorsements. I fail to understand why more of the elite athletes don't adopt this idea.
I'm not saying they should take in the leage minimum but again for when Lebron is up for a new deal take $10 million a year. Thats a hell of a lot of money, but would still be a discount for the cavs.
