Aw, shut the fuck up, New Line. The film is earning profit, sit in your fat asses and swim in the goddamn money.

Oh c'mon! New Line's only made 2.5 billion from the three films! ;)

Meh, I guess I could see why New Line is a little surprised at Big Fish getting the top spot. It does feel a little odd that Big Fish made more than the biggest moneymaker this season

I like New Line, they usually treat their movies (no matter how crappy) with some respect. That's why this surprises me...it seems like something Miramax would say not New Line. I paid to see Big Fish, so should I feel guilty for not keeping ROTK #1?

Maybe everyone in the US has seen ROTK sooooo maybe thats why it got bumped down a spot by Big Fish? It's not that New Line is gonna hold #1 FOREVER, they need to accept that another studio will take over sometime.

I'm moving this into Current Movie Talk (maybe it should go in General...sort of a gray area but it seems more "current movie talk"ish...).

It'd be nothing especially new that a studio would release inflated estimates for their film to make it number one...It of course does backfire a bit after the actuals are released if they're very off. Hard to say if that's what Columbia's doing here, but I kind of doubt it, as the "Fish" numbers seem about right to me.

As for New Line's "behaviour" here, I wouldn't get too riled up about it. I don't see anything particularly aggravating in their statements...The actuals will show the truth.

Apparently, New Line was right (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2004&wknd=02&p=.htm)

Then color me happy. Unfortunately Along Came Polly will take the spot next weekend unless it is a big disappointment.

Still, it locked up FOTR's record.

What really pisses me off about this, is that a shitload of websites, newspapers, etc., made a fucking big mistake naming "Big Fish" as the n.º1 movie of the weekend, WHEN IT WASN'T, and for sure, they won't do nothing to rectify this!!!

But does it really matter that much? Will all of the LOTR fans cry themselves to sleep because the wrong movie was declared No. 1? I would hope not.

Wow...

AN ESTIMATE WAS WRONG?!?!

Let's all get in a huge outrage over a GUESS!

I'll go grab some torches, you all meet me at Sony HQ.

Well, YES!!! You may think that it isn't that important, but it is!
And it's not the fans I'm talking about... there's a hole world that revolves around movies, and you have to be competent. Millions are made everyday with this industry, and one mistake is enough to fail in it...
But who am I to lecture you, or anybody else...? I just think it's unprofessional to make a mistake and let it go not correcting it...

How do you know no one will correct it? Stories have been written and shown on TV on how New Line is disputing this, I'm sure it won't go unsaid that Sony *gasp* OVERESTIMATED a movie's box office. Someone got in shit over at Columbia, that you can bet on. But for people to make a big deal about it is preposterous. Your average person, or, even, say, your average LOTR fan in Topeka, Kansas probably wouldn't care a whole lot that Sony said Big Fish was #1 when, in fact, it was really a close #2.

Well, then I hope so. But, I still have my doubts.

And I understand that to the regular person this wouldn't make a difference, but it does for the movie companies.

What was the difference anyway , 400,000 duckets , they spend that for one meal at some chic Hollywood restaurants . Man , these guys are some arrogant , tight asses .

Like some people have already stated , who cares , they still made a quillion dollars , i'm not shedding any tears for them , and when numbers are that close , maybe Big Fish is really number one . Either way , it's nice to see them squirm a bit :)

New Line's movie can't be King forever! I mean o they think it's going to be #1 forever no it's not so let someone enjoy the victory this weekend besides the movie is making millions upon millions of dollars at the boxoffice so they should be happy about that!
