I've heard a few suggestions of this coming out(and judging by the fact that Once Upon a Time in the West seems to be selling well, it makes more sense now) and I was wondering if anyone had any info?

I just realized I mis-read this as sarcasm, I'm assuming now you meant you bought the current edition before xmas.
I actually just picked it up about a week ago and found out about the SE later, kinda sucks.

You might want to hold on to your copies, since there's a chance that this is the extended cut that was released in the theaters last summer. It'd be ideal if both of the cuts were on the disc, but until it's confirmed, you should probably keep the disc with the original cut.
