This above is my absolute favorite picture of Gene. It is, of course, from her best known movie "Laura". I watched it again the other day - I didn't really care for this movie at first, but it's really been growing on me with each viewing and has become one of my favorites. And as great as the script and the direction and the other actors in "Laura" are, Gene is really the biggest reason why. She is a vision in this one - her beauty so perfect, elegant, gentle and her performance so subtle and effective. And then today I gave "Leave Her To Heaven" another look - neither the movie nor her performance in it can top "Laura", but damn, does she look gorgeous in Technicolor! (she received her only Oscar nomination for this film). I think I could watch those two over and over even if they had no plot at all, just to stare at Gene. She wasn't the greatest actress range-wise, but she has a spellbinding presence on screen and when cast in the right role she could do wonders, as the these two movies prove. Another one of her movies I really like is "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir".
Opinions, please! :)

Ah, well, I loved LAURA, but then it's been quite a few years since I saw it and I can't recall how radiant or exceptional Gene Tierney was. I remember more how intricate the plot and clever the storytelling was and how well the characters were drawn and how superb the dialogue was. So on the strength of the movie she deserves a YAY, but then I should be catching up with her other work sometime soon...

Because I had the most wonderful dream about Gene last night. Probably because I watched some of my favorite bits of "Leave Her To Heaven" just before going to sleep. I don't want to say any more, but it was just mmmm.... :p
And while I'm here, here are a couple more pics for your viewing pleasure...

Yes Trinity, it is. It's a north-American expression for someone who's quite beautiful.
Althought I myself haven't seen any of her performances (old movies are immensly rare where I come from) I'll give her a yay for looks (I was kinda curious where Trinity got her current avatar).

I'm going to give this thread a BUMP as I've been watching some of my favorite scenes from LAURA lately and am seriously falling in love with her more and more by the minute, not only because of her looks either, but also because of her acting.
It seems that I always forget how great her performance in LAURA was, but it's really been growing on more more and more. I'm starting to get a little tired of how Clifton Webb and Vincent Price are always the ones that get all the recognition for that film, yet Tierney's acting is constantly getting ignored and only her beauty is getting recognized. I wouldn't put her above Webb, but I think she is excellent in her own right, definitely far more subtle than the other members of the cast, and with more nuances than anything she's ever done. Her acting in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN and THE RAZOR'S EDGE are more showy, and they're usually the two films that people consider the ones that showcase her acting abilities, but her turn in LAURA certainly should not be ignored, even among the scene stealers.
I've loved her in nearly every film I've seen of hers (the horrid THE SHANGHAI GESTURE is a notable exception that I'm willing to forget), whether it'd be her effective manifestation of intelligence, elegance, & natural beauty in the above mentioned and THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, or her melodramatic turns and excellent portrayal of jealousy in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN and THE RAZOR'S EDGE (that scene in the latter where she confesses to Tyrone Power about what happened to Sophie is so reminiscent of when she confesses to Cornel Wilde about killing her brother in LHTH - "I'd do it and I'd do it again!" - it sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it), or her caring wife & girlfriend roles in HEAVEN CAN WAIT and NIGHT AND THE CITY, she constantly amazes me and I sincerely wish I could get my hands on more of her films.
