"In true love, there's only room for one leading man"

http://www.joblo.com/big-movie-images/pichamilton17.jpg

Plot Summary: Rosalee Futch (Kate Bosworth) is a grocery clerk living in rural West Virginia. But even a small-town girl can have big dreams, and Rosalee’s is to someday…somehow…meet her big-screen idol Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel). The "somehow" arrives in the form of a contest—the grand prize: a date with Tad Hamilton—and the "someday" is now. Rosalee wins, much to the chagrin of her best friend and co-worker Pete (Topher Grace), who is deeply, hopelessly—and secretly—in love with Rosalee. The "Win a Date" contest was cooked up by Tad’s agent, Richard Levy (Nathan Lane), and his manager, also named Richard Levy (Sean Hayes), to clean up Tad’s bad-boy image. Someone should have told them to be careful what you wish for. When Tad meets Rosalee and gets a taste of what he’s been missing in the "real world," he decides he wants seconds and moves to West Virginia, turning Rosalee’s dream come true into a nightmare for Richard Levy, Richard Levy and, most of all, Pete.

Directed by: Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde)

Please, everyone, wait until AFTER midnight on the previous Friday to open a new thread. This thread was made at least 4 hours to early. Rules are rules!

There's really no point in closing and then reopening or starting a new one at midnight, then we'll just have two of each of these threads on the first page. Next time I will just close it or delete it, whichever.

Sorry, but I'm just getting kind of annoyed with people pushing it each week opening it earlier and earlier so that they can be the one to open a thread. Does is even matter?

Wait until AFTER Midnight, on the previous Friday before its release!

I am very sorry about this, The Other. I promise that I will not do it again. I thought it might have been appropriate though, since two sneak previews are going on Friday and Sunday in most areas.

Looks excellent! It reminds me of last years HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, and even has a long title just like that one. I smell a sleeper hit. It just looks really appealing and I think a lot of people will be checking this one out.

I am definitely going to try and see the sneak preview tomorrow night. I hope it's showing with HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG or CALENDAR GIRLS, at least with SOMETHING I want to see. I wouldn't even mind if it was showing with THE COOLER, but I know that wouldn't happen.

Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! is an enjoyable and fluffy romantic comedy with fun perfromances by Topher Grace, Kate Bosworth, Josh Duhamel, Gary Cole, and Gennifer Goodwin.

Predictable, yes......but oddly enough kind of original, IMO. I found the film to not just be a romantic comedy, but also a ribbing at Hollywood itself. It was a fairytale but one that was grounded in reality. The situation seemed very plausible IMO and I admired that.

Topher Grace proves that he could be the next Tom Hanks.....he's got the whole goofy-good guy quality to him and he lights up the screen.

Kate Bosworth is GORGEOUS and did a good job as the absolute goodest girl in West Virginia.

Josh Duhamel reallly worked as Tad Hamilton....he was great and I really liked the fact that we never, until the plane ride towards the end, know for sure what his intentions were.

In his small role, Gary Cole is hilarious as Rosealee's over-enthusiastic Dad.

Lastly, Ginnifer Goodwin (Who was also great in Mona Lisa Smile) is hilarious as Rosealee's zany best girlfriend Cathy. She had me laughing the hardest.

Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! is a NICE movie. Nothing more, nothing less. It has the best of intentions and goes down nice and easy, and is a good time at the movies.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton * * *

A funny and charming romantic comedy with solid turns by Topher Grace and Josh Duhamel. But this movie, unquestionably, belongs to Kate Bosworth. She's wonderful, radiant, luminous, gorgeous and flat out terrific. A star making performance for sure! If Blue Crush wasn't enough to prove this girl has talent (I think it was!!!) then this has to be it. I liked the last shot of the movie too. It's actually pretty clever.

**************SPOILER ALERT!*******************

I also gotta say that I really like that they don't copout and turn Hamilton into an asshole at the end but rather he did actually fall in love with her.

I caught this at a sneak preview last night.

I did enjoy it a lot. I'm a sucker for a good romantic comedy.

Nathan Lane and Sean Hayes were a hoot together. And my man Topher was cool as usual.

A nice enjoyable little flick, I dare say.

Gary Cole (Lumberg from Office Space) is in this movie! Nnnnnyeah!

Unfortunately, even though he's in it, I dont have high expectations for this movie. Looks very predictable, and the tagline is incredibly cheesy. Plus, it's just hard to imagine the beautiful Kate Bosworth being a small-town West Virginia grocery store clerk.

Looks pretty bad if you ask me. I'll pass.

Yes Gary Cole is in it. He plays Bosworth's father. But he's barely in it. He's only in a couple of scenes. Though the scene where he first meets Tad Hamilton is pretty funny.

I am planning to see the sneak preview of this movie tomorrow if time allows. I really hope that it does well next weekend. I actually have a feeling that this will do HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS and LEGALLY BLONDE numbers. Who knows? It could make $100+ million in a year that is bound to be full of surprises.

I think this will be a sleeper hit. I smell a "HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS" kind of movie. The buzz is positive for this kind of movie and pretty much everyone I know wants to see it. It looks like a hit. It might not open with quite as much as HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, but I think it will perform pretty similar.

Well one thing won't be very surprising. Scooby-Doo 2 will suck.

I saw the sneak preview today and loved it. It is one of the best teen films I have seen in recent years. The script is clever, funny, and well-written. Topher Grace and Josh Duhamel give above average performances, but the movie belongs to Kate Bosworth, who is becoming the next Reese Witherspoon in my opinion. Ginnifer Goodwin, last seen in MONA LISA SMILE also gives a very funny performance. The best film of the new year.

8/10 (A-) (maybe even a 9/10, haven't decided yet. It is a very good film that deserves success)

Just got back from this movie, I'll post my full review here later...but I really liked the movie- FINALLY a good romantic comedy! I needed this after "Chasing Liberty"- which doesn't stand a chance up against this. Very good. ***/ (8/10)

SPOILERS

I was really looking forward to this. Liked the premise and the cast a lot. But even though it's pretty harmless fluff, it's pretty damn awful, too. The good things are easier to come up with, because there isn't much of them. Loved Gary Cole and his attempts at speaking the lingo, and his T-shirt. And there are a few solid laughs here and there. Other than that, it sucks. For starters, there is nothing to Bosworth's character. She is completely one-dimensional. I did not care about her at all. Not even a little. Yes, Bosworth is adorable, has a great smile and is talented. But the role is underwritten crap. All she does is smile a lot. It is impossible to get a good read on her character. Later in the movie, when Pete is describing her and why he loves her, I thought, well, this is not on screen that's for sure. Wish I could see what you're talking about. Speaking of poorly written, the whole movie is. Everyone in L.A. has a cell phone? Is that supposed to be funny? Who doesn't know that? Seriously. Cathy is also annoying as hell. Everything she did, and every time she spoke, for me it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Not sure. Not funny. Not endearing. Annoying as hell. It gets horrible towards the conclusion. A guy like Tad confesses to Rosalee that Pete really said the 6 smiles stuff? Give me a break. Not gonna happen. And he falls in love with her, his first time falling in love, after knowing her for about 15 minutes? Again, not gonna happen. I could go on, but why beat a dead horse? There is so much wrong here. Am I being too hard on it? Yes. But I really had high hopes for it. I expected it to be better than the usual teen garbage. But it's not. It's the same. Maybe I'm getting too old for movies like this. But I did really expect to like it, and I didn't. Big disappointment.

I'm going to see this in an hour and 24 minutes! Eek! I feel like a little girl whenever I see Josh Duhamel! Eek! Ah! Ooh! But anyway, this flick looks good so hopefully I won't be sad when it's over because it sucked too much.

Win a Date With Tad Hamilton 3/10

SEMI-SPOILERISH

Grrrrrrr.....what an awful movie. It only got 3 cuz it was so easy to make fun of, which we did and i had a good time. Had I seen this by myself I think I woulda slit my throat. Kate Bosworths character, who is supposed to be charming and innocent comes across as a loser to me. 22, livin with dad, workin in a grocery store and saying shit like "yikes-a-bee!" and "shake-a-doo!"? Yeah, shes a winner. And on the big date with Tad she gives him no clue whatsoever that she is not mentally retarded. Why did he like her? Ugh.....Topher Grace was a prick throughout the movie and with the inevitable ending coming up I kept thinking what sweet thing could he do to get the girl? What happens (with the six smiles) made me want to vomit. And how did this horny bartender become so "wise"? And what was this shit about love, big love, and great love? Just a bunch of babble if ya ask me, yet shes wise so its true. This is more a rant than a review just cuz I found the movie to be so terrible. Maybe 2 genuine laughs (that the movie intentionally went for) but thats about it. And who Kate Bosworths character chooses is also ridiculous cuz she chose the bigger asshole in my eyes. Blech.

Crappy soundtrack too.

Cheesy and cliche, but had some moments. And Josh Duhamal... wow.

I thought it was cute. I didn't really like How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, but I liked this a lot. It's a movie to bring the whole family to, and you don't need to worry about any bad content in it.

8/10 (B+)

It was okay. Typical romantic-comedy. Josh Duhamel's hot but after a while, he kinda got on my nerves. I think it's because he's so hot that he's annoying. Anyway, it was okay, nothing special. Had some good moments, some funny moments, some sincere moments. And I didn't like the ending, it felt too forced and ridiculous.

6/10

I think I'm going to go see this in a little bit. I think I'll agree more with thompsoncory on this, since we seem to like a lot of the same movies. I see myself giving it around a 7/10 (B) or 8/10 (B+).

WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON (2003)

A "tad" (*wink*) disappointing, but still enjoyable. It was a cute little movie. Not as hilarious as I would have thought, but it did have some funny moments.

Kate Bosworth was good at being sweet. Topher Grace was funny. I really enjoyed Ginnifer Goodwin. She was funny and reminded me of the adorable Alexandra Holden (The Hot Chick, How To Deal). I also liked Kathryn Hahn as Angelica. I felt bad for her character though.

I didn't like it as much as last years How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, which starred another blonde Kate, but it was still good. It's kind of funny that Kathryn Hahn was in both How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and Win A Date With Tad Hamilton, two beginning of the year romantic comedies with long titles featuring blonde Kate's in the lead.

Grade: 7/10 (B-)

Hopefully this can at least make it to 20 Million at the Box Office. It's too bad it didn't do better, but it should perform well on video.

Glad ya liked it, but maybe I just wasnt in the mood but the film kept pissing me off at every turn! It was so dull knowing that it had to go through all the necessary plot points to reach that sucky ending. OK I liked Honey so maybe I cant complain about predictability:) but the whole Shake-a-doo! thing knocked it down a few points, now THAT was irritating. Yikes-a-bee!

After seeing it, I can see why people wouldn't like it. It actually surprises me that it got a good amount of positive reviews from critics.

I might have enjoyed it even more if there would have been more people in the theater. Counting me and my movie partner, there was a total of 8 people.

I don't know if it was just my mood, or Topher Grace being at his most adorable since Traffic (I'm a sick puppy, I realize)...but I thought this was a great flick, particularly for the January crowd. Sweet, clever, predictable but enjoyable, endearing, honest, well-thought out, well-acted and very witty at points, I think this is definitely a chick flick that most anybody can wrap their minds around. Kate Bosworth is quite sweet, Topher Grace is brilliant and Josh Duhamel is jaunty and smoldering, as per usual.

A movie hasn't made me quite so happy since Love Actually, I want to see it again.

Whoa! I'm surprised you enjoyed it so much. And you gave it a higher rating than Kissing Jessica Stein, what is this world coming to? ;) Now you must see Kissing Jessica Stein again, because pretty much everyone that sees it a second time likes it even more than they did the first time :p.

I'm shocked too. It's weird, when I see a romcom that really gets to me, the possibility of all of them being better seems so much more real...of course, then I rewatch Dirty Dancing and it all becomes so terrifyingly clear why I hated them in the first place.

Kissing Jessica Stein, while not one of my favorite movies, I must admit has stayed with me very clearly despite only seeing it once. It had a lasting effect, if not a glowing one :)

That's good to hear, but I still say check it out again :p ;).

Can someone remind me what scene that ugly wench Paris Hilton was in? I remember seeing her, yet can't remember what scene it was, and it's bugging me.
