Hey guys, new to the board here and I thought I would but in my 2 cents.

This is just going to be a rant but what bothers me bout DVDs is that certian DVDs come out and people buy that DVD and then yrs later they come out w/ a SE. Examples are Ransom, Predator, and the biggest of them all T2. I know Star Wars is going to be the same way. I don't know how many copies I have on VHS. Does anyboby else out feel the same way? Maybe give examples of dvds that you bought and later they came out w/ the SE that you had to get also.

My thoughts, for what they're worth, about the double dippin':
I've bought a few DVDs and later they released them as S.E.s (i.e. X-Men, Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Dogma and of course Young Guns) and as a rule which is determined by my wallet, I don't buy a DVD of a movie that I already have. Unless it's a movie that's in my top ten and the S.E. is brilliant! I'm slowly trying to upgrade my VHSs to DVDs and that's enough for me.

I had the old Pulp Fiction dvd with no special features but sold it and got the awesome SE...

same with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, had the orig. dvd and then the criterion came out, so I got that.

Pulp Fiction, Memento, and Unforgiven were the same way. Pissed me off. Fortunately, I found people who would buy my DVDs so I could get the SEs. Now I hear that The Shawshank Redemption is getting the same treatment. SON OF A BITCH!

Maybe my dad will take it.

This didn't bother me until they just announced Panic Room SE, Predator SE and the Total Recall EE.

The last one pissed me off!

I don't really complain, since big movies that have babebones DVDs are gonna be double dipped, about 90% of the time, so waiting becomes easier. I welcome double dipped older movies since maybe then, the movie would get what it deserves

I have 2 copies of T2 currently... Each is worth every damn penny..

Ultimate - good features and deleted scenes
Extreme - commentary by Cameron.. nuff' said..

If they released ANOTHER version with an Arnold commentary, I would buy that one as well...

Now, come on Cameron... release that 4 hour+ version of Titanic this year :)

I hate this too. The re-issues of such films such as ENOUGH and THE NEW GUY are strange enough, especially since they aren't very well liked by pretty much everyone except me. But then there is the bare-bones process that some discs go through, such as PANIC ROOM, BLACK HAWK DOWN, WINDTALKERS and SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE. These could have all had the special editions released as the original disc instead of a bare-bones version. The only exceptions I can think of where a re-issue is not so bad are:

The LORD OF THE RINGS Extended Edition DVDs:
* The original release discs and the extended discs contain completely different bonus material.
* The film on the extended disc set is longer, which explains why there is a time frame between the original's release and this release.

The PEARL HARBOR: DIRECTOR'S CUT DVD:
* The original issue of the disc (non-director's cut) still has quite a few bonus features (including a 45-minute documentary).
* The Director's Cut disc set is so fantastic it is a must-buy for any fan.

luckily i havent had to double dip, maybe its partly to do with i dont buy bare bone discs, i dont see the point in buying something on DVD when it could have extras but doesnt, extras are one of the bonuses about these lovely discs

what really pisses me off about dvds is what was said above, and also wrinkled plastic on the cover, and on some when you take off the wrapping, there is still some wrapping and glue left on the spine of the dvd case. you cannever get that off. plus the wrinkled dvd cases are annoying to look at, and it really really bothers me.
