Even though Brett Ratner claimed in the press kit to have cast a "total unknown" as the villain of RED DRAGON (2002), Ralph Fiennes was at the time already a much-respected and relatively well-known actor with two Oscar-noms on his CV.
The very first time I saw Fiennes, I hated him and admired him at the same time. Due to his brilliant, ambivalent portrayal of a Nazi commander in SCHINDLER'S LIST (1993) one was disgusted by his character, but mesmerised by his acting.
He followed it up with some strong performances in QUIZ SHOW (1994), STRANGE DAYS (1995) and the rather lacklustre THE ENGLISH PATIENT (1996). He bombed pretty badly with THE AVENGERS (1998), and rightly so. His voice-work as Rameses in THE PRINCE OF EGYPT (1998), though, was splendid. He was also in SPIDER, THE GOOD THIEF and MAID IN MANHATTAN (all 2002).
So, even though he did make one or two bad choices, he's a incredibly good actor with rare intensity and conviction.
I say: YAY!

I love this guy, he's one of my favorite actors. His best performance is in Neil Jordan's unrecognized masterpiece "The End of the Affair".

YAY. His Amon Goeth is the character I would most like to beat the living fuck out of. If I am affected emotionally by a character, it means that the actor is doing a fantastic job. I also admire his other work too. And the fact that he is handsome helps. :)

YAY! YAY! FUCKING YAY!
Easily one of the best actors working in the business today. Every performance, every role, every movie that he plays in is superb, to say the least. One of those actors who REALLY knows how to put all the right emotions and characteristics into the roles he plays, and makes it all very believable. His turn as Amon Goeth in SCHINDLER'S LIST is especially excellent. He never goes over the top at all with his performances and always manages to be realistic and emotionally effective. I fucking LOVE the guy.
Oh, and from a male's point of view, he's truly GORGEOUS! :)

One of the greatest actors I have ever seen. If you want to see one of his best films, watch SUNSHINE!
Big YAY from me. He has talent to spare. He absorbs every role he takes.

He's on my list of "actors who should be huge stars but aren't." He has star potential, and he's a great actor too. His performance in Schindler's List is, in my opinion, the best of the 90's.

I understand he likes his arthouse roles, but this guy needs to do more thrillers like Strange Days. What an underrated gem.
