Hardly noticed him in STEALING BEAUTY (1996), but found him very likeable in the little-seen gem MARTHA, MEET FRANK, DANIEL & LAURENCE (1998) and was thrilled by his enthusiastic turn as the Bard himself in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (1998). He was fine in ELIZABETH (1998) as well.

But WHAT happened then? Consistently underperforming and sorta playing the horny lover twice, bedding Gretchen Mol (FOREVER MINE) and Heather Graham (KILLING ME SOFTLY) in some rousing sex scenes and otherwise acting beyond the radar.

His turn as LUTHER (2003), though, was celebrated and he may be back on track, afterall.

So a huge YAY for his work in 1998 and in hope of reaching those heights again. He's a terrific actor. Just needs to make better choices.

I loved him in "Shakespeare in Love" and "Elizabeth", and "The Very Thought of You" was quite charming (thuough I have since come to despise Monica Potter, so I probably woudn't like it as much if I saw it again). As for "Killing Me Softly" I can only say - wtf?

Only reason to watch Shakespeare In Love. Well, him and Geoffrey Rush. Haven't seen him in anything after that. He's ok, so YAY.

To put it bluntly, Ralph Fiennes is MUCH better than this boring, untalented hack.

I find SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE to be increasingly more and more o******d the more I hear it, and he wasn't anything special in that movie either. I liked ELIZABETH, but not his performance.

Yeah, I found him tolerable in those movies, but nothing special....so at best, he's mediocre.

But at his worst: absolutely boring, uninteresting, stiff actor with the talent of a cereal box. Not to mention he looks like a huge eyed rodent.
