Okay, I'm in Australia, and i have not seen any Criterion Collection dvd's that are region 4 or Australian. Hell i had only read about them (much on these boards) until a week or two ago. There a store near me that stocks region 1 dvd's aswell as 4 (which having region 1 in a different region is illegal from what ive read, but seriously with some of the dvd's, expecially freddy vs jason and many others, you cant resist getting them).
In the store i saw a few Criterion Collections, and basicaly, i dont really know what the fuss is all about?
Superior Quality of Picture and Sound? Special features (alot are on the r4 normal releases too)?

I'd just like to know, just if its worht getting a few. Thanks.

The Picture is amazing, the sound is amazing, there are a ton of extras, Yes get as many as you're interested in. They're definitily worth it.

If you love the movie enough, the Criterion is the way to go. If they have it in stock, it took me 2 months to find the Rushmore Criterion, but they are totaly worth it, and are sort of a collecters item for me.

i read on some thing saying why there were different regions for dvd's, ad it said cuz the hollywood companies didnt want piracy so thats why they did it. i also notice that on many dvd's and games it has (here in Aus) a 'not to be sold out of Australia or New Zealand' and then some copryght law break rule shit on it.

But to the point, so they are great in quality, well ill try and find a site that has all of their dvd's listed.

Thanx to all who have filled me in with the info!

They basically take a lot of really obscure movies, movies that big companies normally wouldn't think much about, and give them DVDs with improved picture and sound. If we're lucky, they give some special features, depending on how old the movie is. Unfortunately, they're very expensive for the unemployed folk like me

What about the Criterion edition of Armageddon? ;)

The Royal Tenenbaums and Chasing Amy are the only Criterion's I own, and they both are really awesome. If only the Rushmore Criterion wasn't so damned expensive at Best Buy. That's the only place I can find it.

I've heard that in the beginning of the commentary track, Michael Bay also poses this question....

I just found this great site. It has every Criterion listed with links for every site that has reviewed whatever disc you are looking up.
