View Full Version : WEEKEND NUMBERS
Friday's numbers are up here:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2004-01-16&p=.htm
ALONG CAME POLLY did REALLY well. It's somewhat surprising. I remember when I first saw the trailer I thought it looked like something that might open with 12 Million.
TORQUE did OK.
It's nice to see that LOTR: ROTK should be at #4 this weekend.
I just knew TEACHER'S PET would bomb, but HOLY FUCK did it ever! 0.484 and a per-screen average of $239 is AWFUL.

It's funny too because Teacher's Pet is the best reviewed new movie of the week. It's actually getting decent reviews.
I'm surprised Torque made any money whatsoever. When I saw it yesterday, I was the only one in the theater. And this was 5:00 PM!
I know, TP is actually getting great reviews. The Star Tribune gave it ***1/2 of **** and Along Came Polly and Torque *1/2 each.

Something about me wants to see Teacher's Pet, after the shockingly good reviews. Back in Action II?

Yeh, While going to see Big Fish last night. Along Came Polly was sold out for the 7 show and the 9:40 show. I had a feeling the movie would do well.
Also happy to see The Last Samurai looks to finally past 100 million this weekend. It deserves it and Cruise's streak continues... :D

Looks like romantic comedy goofests are still profitable , with the right cast , because Duplex looks like it was basically the same movie , just with a different leading lady and setting , and that one bombed .
Guess you can never tell , just chuck a bunch of them out there and see which one hits , after a bunch of market research that is . To me they are all the same , that's why i avoid them as much as possible , and this looks no different then the countless formula comedies i've seen in the past , it looks dreadful .
Hoffman isn't funny , Baldwin is mildly amusing , Stiller can be funny at times ( but his act is getting way old ) , and i loathed Friends all these years it's been on , so i guess you know how i feel about Aniston ( chunk inducing ) .
When i saw the clip of Azaria with the silly wig on , i knew it was avoidance time , well put it this way , it solidified my negative response to it .
There is one good thing to come out of all this , ROTK has finally been beat for number one at the box office , definitely . I imagine the execs at New Line are dropping tears into there Mojitos at whatever upscale watering hole they frequent .
If i was them , i wouldn't cry too much , because obviously ROTK has made a killing , but more importantly , when people are still going bonkers over LOTR , Along came the Formulatic star vehicle script will be collecting dust at the bottom of a bargain bin in Hollywood Video .
Sorry , Anniston sucks . She blows on that nonsense called Friends and she blows in every film i have seen her in . I'll pass on this .

I'm sure that now that LOTR isn't Number 1 anymore, the sore losers over at New Line will once again publicly contest the results...

Woohoo, go Last Samurai! Damn fine movie! I think word of mouth is what is saving this movie. I've recommended it to a lot of people and they've all came back to me and said it's the best movie they've seen in a little while. Granted, 3 or so million isn't the best, but I'm just happy to see it pasted 100 million.

Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if they contested the #4 position they're in, since 2,3, and 4 were very narrow

So far it has made $60,510,000. I wouldn't call it a bomb, but it wasn't exactly a hit either.

I was only off 353, 000 on the predictions for Along Came Polly
Thank god MONSTER held up pretty well. Now there's a decent chance that it will expand enough next weekend for it to come to my theater. It made $1,510,795 at 221 theaters for a per-screen average of $6,836. My theater got THE COOLER, and that's on less than 400 screens, so please let them get MONSTER next weekend!!!
It's nice to see CALENDAR GIRLS back in the top 10. Hopefully it can hang around for awhile.
