I should say a few words as the person who started the "Sequel to Point Break" topic. Couldn't reply there as it was locked anyhow, but every time I was going to reply there was more to read.
Oh well, let me say I didn't intend to start such a debate, and I very much appreciate the advice from each side. Also, glad you like the idea Disease. Rather than post the topic with a subject of "Point Break 2", I quickly thought up a flexible, "Spirits of Mavericks" title, I'd agree though that just "Mavericks" or something would be better for such a screenplay.
That said, I have to feign ignorance here, I honestly didn't know my suggestion of a sequel to "Point Break" would be taken in the seriousness it was.
To be honest, just like this site has a "horror review" message board where people write their reviews to be read basically only by other posters, I figured this screenplay message board was more like that, more for fan fiction or talking about ideas like sequels and such.
With all due respect to the entire site, which is an exceptional movie site, I didn't expect that people were actually as serious about a lot of the material posted here in this particular forum as is obviously the case. Not to slight anyone's efforts, just didn't know.
It's still been very good info to digest and as a potential film student I certainly appreciate it all. There's so much to learn about how it all works as I admit I know basically nothing, aside from the different opinions I've read here.
That said, I see each side's point and can also see how it might be more constructive to put the time into something original, which I also have ideas for anyhow, if I expect the work to be read, or write more for learning and fun with less expectations.
I'd still be glad to share my ideas with anyone who cared to ever write "Mavericks", but I think it's warranted for me to do a lot more reading of other people's work for the time being, while maybe researching other project ideas and building characters for those in some spare time.
Again appreciate all the advice,
GOD bless to everyone!

Hopefully it's something you'll decide to pursue as a serious career goal. It can be done and it's becoming increasingly encouraged (when I was in HS, film school was pretty much looked on as a waste of time).

Good luck with everything.

Yeah there's a lot of options more than ever it seems, the online community certainly makes it easier to learn more though. Appreciate it.

Film school can be pricey but I think it's a great option to get on-set experience. That or being a production assistant.
Screenwriting is a little more subtle and not so finite as directing but I find it equally as rewarding and beneficial.

As for the 'Mavericks' thread, even though everybody had ideological differences in there, it was no big deal. I'll be the first to admit 'flaming' pretty much produces nothing positive(though at times can be fun) and I should've had the sense to bite my tongue.

Even so Bark, most of us are fledgling, established, or somewhere in-between writers in here so don't be afraid to ask on advice, ideas, and suggestions....we're usually here. Well, I know I am anyways.

As Bohdi says while jumping out of a plane, in a little movie known as 'Point Break', "Adios Muchacho!"

Truer words were never spoken. :D
