Hey duders and dudettes...

I am soon (within the next few days) going to start writing a script, it is a teen comedy, with close to no gross out humour, and I'm putting some dramatic elements into it, trying to give it more of an 80's teen movie feel, rather than the ones of recent years.

But here lies my problem... after first writing a very poor script as a first without pre writing, i made it up as i went along, sure i got 111 pages, but it was stupid. This time I am prepared. I have written down all the characters that will play a reasonably major part in the script (pretty much the main characters, and te other characters who have small goings ons during the script) but upon finihing the outline of this I am afraid that it's not long enough. I haven't written an outline as in every single little cut scene, but I have written down everything that happens during the script, and it doesn't seem like it would make feature length.

So my real question is, do you think I should write it as it is, and then add more scenes later on if it is too short, or should I wait until I get a lot of ideas for new scenes, and then cut them out if it's too long?

I'm sorry if that didn't make a whole lotta sense, it's 1:30am.

Any help is greatly appreciated, cheers big ears.

i say start writing it now, it will probably fill out better than expected. The first script i wrote, i wrote on a yellow legal pad and finished the script at about 80 pages. I thought for sure it was too short, then when i typed it and formated it, it wound up being around 250 pages. Which i think might be a tad lengthy...

If you need to add more scenes, I'd suggest doing this:
Look at your protagonists goal. Look at the obstacles stopping him from achieving this. Create more obstacles.

I think that time spent reworking your outline is never wasted.

That being said, until you have more experience, you'll have a hard time knowing exactly how long your outlines will turn out.

Trust your instincts. if you think it's too short, now, add rework the outline until you can add more.

I'd suggest you outline a few 80s teen movies. That way you can compare the outlines to get a ballpark for length, as well as content--what do they have in common in terms of structure, themes, etc.

Great advice. I guess that's why they call you, Maestro. :)

I'm writing one about a girl who makes a wish and has it granted.
She is then giving the chance to see life without the wish. she sees how many lives she effects. to make it longer I just add more ppl whos lives she made a differance in.

Good luck.

There's no point in adding a scene if it doesn't add to the story.
