DAMN! This close! ;)

Tom Cruise Nearly Lost His Head On Set
Tom Cruise was about half an inch away from being decapitated on the set of epic The Last Samurai, when actor Hiroyuki Sanada nearly chopped his head off with a sword. Japanese Sanada, who plays a samurai in the movie, was swinging a real sword when Cruise's mechanical horse malfunctioned and didn't fall down as planned. And the faulty equipment nearly cost the movie hunk his head. Sanada says, "Tom's neck was right in front of me, and I tried to stop swinging my sword but it was hard to control with one hand. The film crew watching from the side all screamed because they thought Tom's head would fly off."

Cruise doesn't like psychology, but if his head flew off, I'm sure he would make an exception on the behalf of the people who would witness hisunfortunate passing.

Then again, he already lost his head sayign psychiatry should be outlawed.

If his head was chopped off...I'd pay a large amount of money to get the tape!

Tom's head is essentially a vacant decorative ornament, so it wouldn't have made much difference if it was chopped off.

HA! Funny post o' the day. :)

I remember a story like this. Y'know the airplane fight with Indy and the big bald nazi dude in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK? There's a shot in the scene when you see Indy just barely avoiding the wheels of the airplane before it rolls him over. In that shot the danger was for real -- Harrison Ford almost got his thighs crushed there.
And while shooting DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS (I saw this one in a making-of just last week), the scene in the booby trap room, Justin Whalin almost got his chest shaved when the special effects guys calculated the swing of a big hatchet-like device wrong. It's the shot they kept in the movie, you can see it missing Justin by just a few inches.

I guess there are moments like this on every action movie shoot. Sometimes they're real dangers, sometimes they're exaggerated by actors who wanna look like they're takin' risks. Whatever...I find 'em fun to hear every time. :)

Too bad he wasn't in Vic Morrow's place.

*Waits for the inevitable BCV/Grebdron "Too bad he missed" comment*

It's really freaky when this type of situation happens. Who knows, maybe if he was killed, the movie would've grossed a lot more than it has now
