...what are some other great & beautiful vampire films? Has anyone watched the trailer yet for Van Helsing? You know how at the end of the trailer, it is taking place in some small village or whatever? Like the game Dracula: the Resurrection, for PSOne....anyways, I loved that. And I just want to watch some more films like these...just beautiful horror films like Interview and whatever...I love big, gothic sets, romance and costumes. I plan on renting Horror of Dracula (Christopher Lee, 1958), but I'd also like to check out some more...oh, and I do plan on renting the `72 version of Nosferatu.

some that come to mind are:

shadow of the vampire (i think that's the name)- it's about how the german who filmed Nosferatu actually got a vampire to play Nosferatu...it's great and has a lot of that period setting feel that you enjoy.

i've also heard good things about andy warhol's dracula.

"talk hard. steal the air."

I haven't seen the trailer for Van Helsing but usually I don't go to horror films rated PG-13. As for vampire films I have included somw recommendations below. Not all are beautifully done and lavish to look at but all I think are worth seeing. Enjoy!

Blacula
Blood For Dracula (a.k.a. Andy Warhol's Dracula)
Bordello Of Blood
Def By Temptation (kind of a vampire flick)
The Fearless Vampire Killers
From Dusk Till Dawn
The Hunger (don't remember too much but think it was enjoyable)
Innocent Blood
Interview With The Vampire
Lair Of The White Work
Martin
Near Dark
Nosferatu The Vampyre
Rabid (kind of a vampire flick)
Salem's Lot
Scream, Blacula, Scream
Vampires In Havana

Alright, well I'll be checking out Shadow of the Vampire and the 1970's version of Nosferatu later this week...I also totally want to see Horror of Dracula, the one featuring Christopher Lee as The Count and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing...sounds freeking rad.

Shadow Of The Vampire is good and I had also recommended Nosferatu The Vampyre which you seem interested in. I have never seen The Horror Of DRacula though. I have wanted to but haven't found any videostores that carry it. I hope you like the other films I listed too.

The Crow was an excellent film. The buildings and atmosphere had an extremely gothic feel and look to it. I know it's not a vamp type movie and I'm asuming you've seen this but if not then I highly suggest you take your ass to the store! :) Anything else comes to mind I'll letcha know.

Heres a film you need to see if you liked Bram Stokers:

Dracula (1979) directed by Jhon Badham. Trust me this little gem is so underated its not even funny. Its in my opinion one of the best adaptations out there. It stars Frank Langella and is extremely gothic. Great sets and great atmosphere. Trust me you will absolutely love it. Heres (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58363&highlight=dracula) my review for it.

Also check out Horror of Dracula, this one my friend is as good as they come. You will love every single atmosphere filled, gothic minute of it

Yes, I enjoyed The Crow a lot too even though it is not a vampire film.

Rushmore:

Nosferatu (both Versions)
Ganja and hess
Dracula: Prince Of Darkness
Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde (Silent, B&W)
Twitch Of The Death Nerve
Carnival Of souls

Not all of these are vampire, but they DOOOOOOOOOO have a lot of the stuff that you're looking. Big, lush production.. opulent sets and costumes.. Not much of the lovey dovey, but I'm sure Terms of Endearment will suffice. ;)

you might enjoy The Hunger, too.. :) David Bowie, Susan Sarandon.. MUCHO style over substance, though..

Romero&Juliet, out of the films you've mentioned I've only seen Nosferatu The Vampyre (70's version) and part of the original. Some of the others I haven't even heard of. As for The Hunger, I recommended that above and did see it awhile ago.

Alrigjt, so tonight I rented Nosferatu (70s version), Shadow of the Vampire, Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell (Hammer film, Peter Cushing stars), House of Wax (Price) and The Pit and the Pendulum (also Price). I'm lookinf to have a great old-school horror week. I'm falling head over heels for this sexy genre more and more with every film I see.

Coincidentally, I rented House Of Wax the other night. Haven't watched it yet though. Nosferatu The Vampyre, Shadow Of The Vampire and The Pit And The Pendulum are all good flicks. I hope you like them.

If you're looking for a really beautifully done horror flick, check out Le Pacte Des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf). It is kind of a werewolf movie, its fantastic!

Awesome editing, use of color, fighting, twists, costumes, and of course for the guys - nudity.

Monica Bellucci is very mysterious in this, and she looks great.

aside from Ganja and Hess, which is a sentimental favorite of mine, the flicks I mentioned are all pretty easily grabbed..

you should check them out! :)

I agree Brotherhood Of The Wolf is a very good film. Oh, and Romero&Juliet, I checked with my videostore and out of your list they carry Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde and Carnival Of Souls.

Big, lush production? I'll have to disagree with you there. The slender budget doesn't allow for grandiose grandeur. The rigid acting doesn't help matters either. I know I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't recommend this one.

Rushmore, keep plowing through Hammer's library. If it's Gothic ambiance you're looking for, you can't aim much higher than that. You should dig on Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell.

I haven't seen Carnival Of Souls but I have heard many good things about it. I think I also read that it inspired George A. Romero to make Night Of The Living Dead.

Almost every vampire film with a hint of budget looks "pretty" and polished.

I stilll really love the original Dracula (31), although I have yet to see others = ( Basically a hammer film virgin (the horror!)

You're right, it doesn't apply at all.. Its extremely gothy, though and I'd reccomend it to anyone looking for a good ghost story.. and I figure that Rushmore's Tim Burton loving ass would muccho enjoy it..

I must give it credit for the EXCELLENT use of still frames, creepy play with shadows (although, the "floating head" does looka little crude nowadays) and a WHOLE lot of atmosphere..

Blacksnake: if its the olllld version of Jeckyl and Hyde, then its fannntastic.. cant vouch for any of the others', though.

Yeah, the film does sport eerie imagery. I was just put off by the clunky characters and the abrupt, all-too-familiar ending. I'd probably value it more if I were to see the remake.

Heh, yeah, the remake is supposed to suck all kinds of cock.. Sou Survivors, I kinda enjoyed.. for some reason.

I did get a kick out of the original's ending, though.. the last shots of the car-wreck actually did a number on me. I think it was made for drive in, really.. even the car POV shots..
