Here's your chance to describe your favourite obscure gem that you've never seen mentioned on this forum.

I've got two....

MADMAN (the ultimate backwoods slasher)and THE DEADLY SPAWN (gory alien invasion flick)

Try not to pick the same films as eachother, people, let's uncover as many films as we can!!!

Although more and more people on this board seem to be ever aware of it's existance, I will still choose Dark Night of the Scarecrow as my personal fave.

Rounding second though is a little obscure British film Dead Creatures - kind of a chick flick zombie film. Not everyone's taste (unintentional) but it 's dramatic and straight forward. Plus , great acting.

Er... I just checked the reviews. Turns out some of you have seen Madman. Good for you!!!!

But no one's mentioned The Deadly Spawn. I might have to review it myself!

I have to give a shout for this movie from the 70's THE CAR.... I have presented this in a movie tournament which eventually lost. :( The eerieness of this evil vehicle still races in my mind. The look and pacing of the movie is very outdated but seeing people fleeing for their lives equals to what John Carpenter brought to the screen Christine...

Well consier yourself a winner cause The Car was a great, cheesy, atmospheric gem from the 70's. Note the Berlios or Berloz or whatever the composer's name was same score also used in The Shining - The Symphony Fantastique was the name of the piece.

Next Of Kin ( aka Return To Monclare ) a very atmospheric and creepy New Zealandian film.
Very very impressive but not for every-one.
If you like Mario Bava, Argento and Hitchcock than this film is for you.
9/10, exceptionnal film, believe me.
This is in fact a thriller but a horrific-one.

Or not... Sorry but I hated Madman Mars Bars, even though Gaylen Ross of DOTD starred, it wasn't enough to save it.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow was a very cool film (poor Bubba!! :(), I remember catching this one on TV years ago. Another film I caught years ago but may be obscure is The Legacy, which is based on devil-worship and is set in a mansion.

Yes Madman is ... not really good.
However as a slasher/giallo collector I own it.

Romero- I have ALWAYS wanted to see Nightlife, is that with the cute red-haired actor who's name has just escaped me?? Erg,DAMN, Scott ummm....Scott somethin.'

I,Zombie I have been meaning to see, too. It's too bad that it got a lot of bad press. Was it because of the "Fangoria's 1st film" tag? I mean , that sat on the shelf here at my local video store for months.

At least it got good distribution in the States! I hadn't heard a scrap of hype for either of the guy's movies until a little while ago...and I'm still floored that they haven't been getting any kind of big attention.

heheh, and you're thinking about Scott Grimes! He's about the closest I can come up with to a human Archie! (http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/units/lml/comics/pages/images/archie-graphic.jpg) Heh, Night Life is great.. Its kind of like Fright Night, but with zombies...

I would have NEVER seen or heard of NEAR DARK if not for this site and i got a feeling many, many people have not heard of this movie.

One thing to note movies nowadays are becoming cult classics much faster due to the internet. Its getting about impossible for a good horror movie(or any good movie) to go by without a blip on someones radar.

Even if the movies dont do good at the box office word spreads so fast about a movies worth that by the time they hit dvd the whole horror community knows about them and is waiting to pick them up.

No way in hell would Donnie Darko or May would have gotten the publicity they have now if they had been released 10 years ago.

Ill mention Blood and Donuts cause it seems to me no one here has seen it (except Skweemkween who commented on it a while back) and I think it deserves to be seen my more people. Its artsy, its different but its also quite good.

Really people, give this one a go, you wont be sorry.

about 7 years ago in a Netwrok Video i rented a movie called Halloween, it has nothing to do with micheal myers and no its not halloween 3, i can't remember everything about it but from i do remember it was about a crazy person who had some horrible childhood, escapes from a asylum and returns home to find his house turned into a haunted house. he goes in and starts killing people off and when people walk through they think that its all part of the haunted house. Not really orginal but had decent gore from what i remember.

Another that comes to mind is Mutant Man, that just sucked and was the typical people break down and back woods inbreed hillbillies attack.

Then i think of Demon Wind , a evil dead rip off, it sucked too.

Messiah of Evil, I think its somewhat knowen but it still comes to mind.

And who can forget Pieces.

I guess I'll go with Dinosaur Island. Roger Corman gem form 1994 with lots of action, dinosaurs, and big breasted women. Hoo-ray. Also, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD doesn't get mentioned very often among most circles.

Anyone seen Unhinged? Pretty good movie, it's starts kind of slow, but the ending was awesome and it really isn't all that slow. The acting wasn't the best and the effects were ridicolous, but I mean, I wasn't watching the movie for great effects, so it's cool.

Unhinged was a good movie. I guess a lot of people knock it and don't like it but I liked the sense of dread it had. It's one of those ones where you're constantly yelling at the characters to get the hell out of there. It's also one of the video nasties so it has that going for it too. ;)

NO-ONE has seen a really good little NZ forest horror flick called "The Locals", it was last year. It's a really good horror movie, I recommend renting it or blind-buying, especially if you like Evil Dead type flicks, except this one has lets guts and more brain.

The Blind Dead quadrilogy--some are better than others, but still a quality history/Templar Knights/zombie series.

Messiah of Evil, originally released as Dead People. Low budget and grainy, but some kick ass attack scenes I haven't really scene duplicated in later movies. I've head that people who have the Brentwood copy of the dvd have problems playing it, but there is another addition that's on a two-fer with Devil's Nightmare that plays fine for those who want to see it.

Feast!

A (very) low budget film about a guy who's a cannibal, who doesn't remember eating anyone.

Other than that, I can't say much about it.
