What is Friday the 13th Part 4 was the last Jason film???
If Jason really did die back then??? He was taken pretty seriously and was at the height of his popularity in 1984...
If the series was ended would he still be taken seriously today like he was back then???
If he disappeared for almost 20 years and then made a movie this year, would people still be scared???
Just curious...
P.S. I once heard that the creators never wanted to bring Jason back after Part 4... They were actually going to just do side stories for the remaining sequels... But, people demanded Jason and picketed for him after they hated Part 5...
Do you think it would have been better for Jason as an icon and character to stay dead??? I mean so he would still be taken seriously???

I am a fan of this serie so I won't say it would have been good him to remain dead, no.
I am glad to see F13th 7 or 6 but it is true that F13th 5, 8 or even 10 were less interesting.
I own: F13th 1 (on DVD and VHS, this - one,only ) 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 10.
However I think he would have been as popular.
See Terminator you just have 3 of them and his character is famous and very popular, don't you think ?

Part 4 is one of the best in the series, if it had ended there it would have ended on a good note.
But then again if it had ended there we would not have gotten the mega excelent part 6 and 7.
So I guess we just have to endure through the bad ones, until we get a good one. Kinda like Jhon Carpenters films. Endure a few bad ones...until wham he hits us with another classic.

its something that always kind of crosses through your mind, the little what if's of horror....
if the series was to end at part 4,he might have had a following still, and be popular,a cult favorite...but then I wouldn't see any chance or reasoning for bringing him in for a FvJ....
and on other notes, here is the order of my likings in this series...
8,3,6,2,7,X,4,1,5
so with that, you can see I enjoyed parts 8 and 6...so I would have liked for them to stick around....
my answer is no,he wouldn't be as popular and have as big of a following...one of the things people know and such about jason is the large amount of sequels, its like a mainstay with his name....so yeah,I say no...it wouldn't be the same.

Xcoryx you like F13th 8 ? What the hell !! I thought it was really boring and New York is in fact Vancouver or somewhere else in Canada.
I did not like it at all but you are free to have your opinion I respect that.

Well if it did end on part 4 then we wouldn't have such cool sequels as part 6. Now I've never been a big Friday fan but they have always been good for a couple hours worth of entertainment.

well i cant say that i didnt enjoy friday the 13th 6,7, and JGTH (i only tolerated 8)......but i sorta think it would have been a whole lot better for the series if Jason would be left dead...i mean back then Jason was actualy feared....today him and Freddy are like pop icons.......i mean kids are proably as scared of Jason and Freddy as they are of Tony the Tiger these days......but then again i dont mind that people arent afraid of him cuz he still kicks ass....

First of all guys, let`s be serious, these movies would NOT be as popular if they had ended at Part 4.
One of the things that made Jason so notorious was the unending sequels.
movielover999 - yes the producers DID want to go in a different direction after Part 4. That`s why Part 5, "A New Beginning", had a copycat killer.
Personally, I like ALL the movies to one extent or another, so I`m glad they kept churning them out!

yeah im pretty much with you Elgyn,as my post stated...he just wouldn't be the same now...considering out of parts 1-4,i only enjoyed 2&3....so it wouldn't have been the same without kickass parts 6&8,and the slightly entertaining 7,and the always fun Jason X...JGTH i could live without and wish was never made, but can't get all you ask for...

Yes, but dont you think that the non ending sequels hurt him too???
All of the later sequels (minus FVJ) did pretty horrible at the box office...
8-X didnt even really pass the 15 million mark...

You MAY be mistaking the F13 series for the HALLOWEEN series when you said you heard the producers didn't want to bring JASON back after THE FINAL CHAPTER and concentrate on unrelated storylines.
When JOHN CARPENTER AND DEBRA HILL created HALLOWEEN 3 as an original storyline not focusing on the MICHAEL MYERS character, their intention was to make a new HALLOWEEN movie each year with differing storylines based on the themes of Halloween. But, as we know, HALLOWEEN 3 was a critical and box office disaster and that idea was booted!

You`re right about the "Halloween" series, but the "Friday" producers wanted to go in a different direction after Part 4 as well.
And so we ended-up with "Halloween III" and "Friday the 13th Part 5", the most hated movies in each franchise!

If it weren't for "Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives," I never would have got into horror, so I'm glad more F13 films followed the "The 'Final' Chapter." And, F13 5 wasn't so bad. It was just like an F13 film: scattered characters and really gruesome deaths - just without Jason behind the mask.

Duke "Friday 5" is actually one of my favorites in the series!
I was just sayin`, it`s hated by most fans.

Oh, I know. Yeah, a lot of F13 fans can't get past the fact that its not Jason behind the mask doing all that beautifally bloody work. I was just sayingthat I can get past it. I enjoy F13 5 as any other F13 film for all its cheesiness.
I'm even able to make it make sense in the storyline between parts 4 and 6. Obviously, after part 4, Tommy freaked out over his traumatic experience with Jason (there were signs right at the end of of it). So, in part 5 he went to that crazy house around Crystal Lake. A copycat killer of Jason does his thing, causing Tommy to freak out even more, and starts hallucinating (explaining part 5's confusing ending). So, he goes on to have more hallucinations, and out of his own paranoia, decides to cremate Jason's body once and for all. This is where part 6 comes in. Does this work?

Makes sense to me Duke.
Though personally, I like to pretend in "Part 5" that the copycat was somehow possessed by Jason, like in "JGTH".

I'm glad they didn't end after part 4 cause I loved part 7 as a kid, the psychic vs jason thing ruled. Though, what I think would be great for the series is if one of the new horror directors did a sequel (someone like Rob Zombie or Eli Roth) and if they brought Kane Hodder back (I like my Jason to be Pissed off).

No way dude I didn't know that they planned to take F13 in a different direction after THE FINAL CHAPTER!!!!! I guess that explains A NEW BEGINNING then?!!!! It makes sense really doesn't it considering JASON wasn't the killer and SEASON OF THE WITCH was about something completely different to the MYERS storyline?!!!
P.S - What is a tiny bit ironic as well is that I happen to LOVE SEASON OF THE WITCH and A NEW BEGINNING too!! I truly believe that HALLOWEEN 3 is a great little horror movie. Who cares if MYERS ain't in it?!! He came back in the end!! And A NEW BEGINNING was just plain stupid fun! I LOVED REGGIE THE RECKLESS and his brother (MICHAEL JACKSON wannabe) DEMON!
Does anyone think that the stupid red neck twat who's mama bosses about all the time looks like a fat retarded version of RANDY QUAID?!!

Friday the 13th Part 5 is to the Friday the 13th series as Season Of The Witch is to the Halloween series. 'Nuff said.

Yeah, I always thought so too!
And Reggie`s brother Demon (Miguel A. Nunez Jr.) has been in lots of other movies, including "Return Of the Living Dead", "Leprechaun 4: In Space", and even had a starring role in "Juwanna Man" (which I heard was awful).

Pertaining to the debate on the direction that the producers wanted to take with the series after the original...
I read in Fango a bit ago that the original's producer and director, Mr. Cunningham, actually wanted to diverge from the Crystal Lake storyline after the first Friday film. He thought that the idea of bringing back Jason, at all, in the second was the wrong idea. His plan was, if they were going to make sequels, to make each a completely different horror flick and just tack on the F13th tag for simple name recogniton.
Friday 5 TANKED at the box office, so Paramount needed to bring Jason back in part 6. By the way, in my opinion, Jason Lives is the best Friday movie featuring an undead Jason. Part 4 is my fave when he was just a tough-ass mongloid. Man he was BRUTAL in that one - Crispin Glover's demise anyone?

CrazyKillah,
Parts 1-4 were the hits of the series at the time...
Actually Part 5 did better at the Box Office than 6-10... It was a mediocre money maker... It didnt bomb...
Part 6 and 7 made about the same... A little less than 5...
Parts 8-10 didnt do well at all and killed the series for years at a time...
Freddy vs Jason comes along and revives the series financially...
Technically none of the movies bombed because they all made some form of money...
Jason X was considered a Box Office flop, but when all was said and done (Video rentals, Sales, etc.) the movie still made 30 million...

Yeah dude I followed MIGUEL A. NUNEZ Jr's career after that. I think he may be a secret bum chum of MARTIN LAWRENCES too as he has small roles in LIFE and A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE.

At the time, Part 4 had given Paramount its largest openin weekend ever on a movie, so they probably considered it a hit. Compared to part 4 and the sleeper hit that was the original, part 5 was a flop.

CrazyKillah,
I see what your saying... In that case, your right...
Compared to what Part 4 made only a year earlier, Part 5 would look like a flop...
It probably was considered a pretty big disappointment at the time...
Part 6 was an attempt to revive Jason and his financial success all over again... I am sure Paramount wasnt very happy when it did worse than Part 5...
Technically, it took almost 20 years to make Jason a big financial success again with FVJ... I am surpised Paramount didnt end the series at Part 6 after the movies started underperforming...
I do remember that Part 6 was very unaccepted by the moviegoing public and fans at the time of it's release... Many hated it even though it became one of the more fan popular of the series... It was still only 1986 and those who loved the earlier movies at the time hated the change in direction... The tounge in cheek tone of the movie...
