The movie LOOKED magnificent.
I really love the whole visual style of this movie, everything from the design of the city & sets, the costumes, the use of color filters etc.
I almost like the look of this movie more than the original`s. Almost.
And the music wasn`t bad either, though didn`t hold a candle to the first film`s music (I`m talking about the scores AND the rock songs).
Oh and Mia Kirshner was gorgeous.
But......that`s it, IMO.
The script S-U-C-K-S.
One of the Worst Scripts Ever. To this day I hope this rotton, unimaginitive script haunts David S. Goyer everywhere he goes.
The dialoge sucks.
The characters suck.
The villians are obvious subpar clones of the first film`s villians.
And Vincent Perez....sorry dude...you can tell he DID try...but he just didn`t work.
But hey, it still looks great!

fuck City of Angels. fuck it in its stupid, stupid ass.
NEVER try to improve what brandon lee and the supporting cast made classic cinematic gold (especially if the material you're starting out with isn't at least as good as if not better than what the first movie had). this should be a general sequel rule of thumb, and the 2nd Crow movie is a textbook example of such.
so i say: fuck this dumbass director, fuck vincent perez, fuck mia kirshner, fuck the screenwriters, the extras, the set designers, and george w. bush.
VIVA LA LEE!!!

DAMN!
I totally understand what you`re saying (having been a fan of the comic before the movie), but I still sorta enjoyed "City Of Angels" on a visual level.

I actually enjoy it a fair bit, but unless a movie is utterly unredeemable I'll enjoy it.
I give it a little more slack since there were no Crow comics past the original untill City of Angels.

Alot of people blame David S. Goyer but did you all know that originally this sequel was gonna feature a female crow, take place in london, and feature a jack the ripper type villian? David Goyer originally wanted to make the film with those elements in mind but the studio didn't go for it. So if your gonna blame anyone blame the studio. Personally yes this is inferior to the first but it does have several positive elements:
the style of the film is top notch
the music once again rocks
there's a few great action scenes
I thought Perez's and Kirshner's acting were good
and the film did feature some good lines.
I'm pretty much in the minority here but I found this sequel to be entertaining and a decent film. No it doesn't compare to the first but as a stand alone flick it's actually pretty decent.

I never heard about the London story, THAT would`ve been very interesting.
Perhaps that idea eventually transformed into Goyer`s "Dark City" script.
So if your gonna blame anyone blame the studio.
Oh don`t worry, I do blame the studio.
Dimension Films has done more slicing 'n' dicing than both Jason and Michael Myers combined!
But the fact remains that Goyer STILL wrote the eventual final shooting script. And it stank.

Watch the movie again dude, there is exactly ONE action scene, the motorcycle chase.
Sure, there`s also the scenes where he battles the thugs one-on-one, but I`d hardly call them action scenes.
and the film did feature some good lines.
I seem to remember many HORRIBLE lines, like Iggy Pop screaming "FUCK YOU, BIRD DICK!"
Or when Ashe is fighting Kali (the Asian chick):
KALI: Do you know how to fight?
ASHE: Do you know how to DIE!
Ugh, terrible.
I`m not trying to be an asshole or talk down to you psycho dude, I just find many faults with the movie.
But like I said before, I DO really love the visual style of the movie.

Same here- tis a gorgeous looking movie, and I remember disliking the lack of action the film's CRAP dialogue, but there are still some things to love- the motorcycle chase and... ... erm... the.. motor.. bike.. run-after... sequence.DAMN!
Kool costume and set designs, wicked rugged unshven look on Vince Perez under his make up, decent soundtrack- thats about it.
Bah. I'll probably end up giving it a purchase, because I'm a pretty hardcore Crow fan and I've been getting the itch to complete the trilogy. And I'm a complete chump.:(
First I need a re-watch. Tis been a while since I've seen it and remember very little. Though I do have an extra snazzy Crow: CoA shirt. VERY shnazzy.
I'm such a posier.

Also Elgyn, did you know that over 30 mintues worth of footage was cut from the film? Some of the footage included backstories of the villans, alternate confrontations, and a more depressing ending. So the club shootout scene doesn't count as action? Well yes the movie definately has flaws but I did find some good things about it as well. I think I'll buy this film because I actually did like it. What about the part where Ashe calls Curve and asks him what a murder of crows are and his little conversation with Curve about the idea of putting coins in the mouths of the dead? Well I thought they were good dialogue moments.

When Brandon Lee perished on the set of "The Crow", the whole series idea should have perished with him. Making these inferior sequels is a sacrilage. Brandon Lee's incomparable, heartwrenching performance in this amazing movie is nothing short of sensational, a projection of Lee giving the role of Eric Draven everything he had in his heart. "City of Angels" was a disgrace, as were the more recent sequels. STOP THE MADNESS!!!
RIP, Brandon. We miss you.

Yep. Ahhh, the magic of Dimension Films!
Some of the footage included backstories of the villans, alternate confrontations, and a more depressing ending.
A lot of that stuff can be found in the novelization. Not sure if it`s still in print.
Yes, all the villians had more backstory (including Judah), which surely would`ve helped.
The ending is basically the same, except it is made more clear that Ashe is now doomed to walk the earth for eternity since he tried to help the living [Sarah]. And, of course, Sarah is dead.
In Dimension`s finished version, they try to give it a happier ending, making it look like Ashe is in some sort of Heaven with his son.
So the club shootout scene doesn't count as action?
I guess so, but dude it lasts for less than a minute!
Also, just FYI since you`re planning on buying it, the DVD says 'Director`s Cut', but it really isn`t.
There`s about two more scenes than the theater version - but that hardly makes it a 'Director`s Cut'.
Just a ploy by Dimension Films to get people to buy/rent it.

First off, The Crow is my favorite movie of all time. I love it, and always have since the first time I've watched it.
Now my opinion on City of Angels. The movie was very cool looking. Vincent Perez did an ok job, little Shakepherian for my taste. I thought the story line was cool, father and son type thing.
I thought Juda Earl(not sure who played him), the main villian, was horrible! Just down right horrible! Iggy Pop served his purpose. The rest of them were not really worth remembering. The person who plays Sarah(Mia Kirshner) I thought did good with what she had to work with. The tatoo shop owner was ok.
The soundtrack and score was pretty good. The one thing "The Crow" series always kept top notch.
My rating for this movie would have to be 6/10.

I agree. He LOOKED cool, but his line delivery sucked IMO. Too much postering. He`s NO Michael Wincott, that`s fer sure!
(BTW, awesome avatar dude! I LOVE Michael Wincott!)
As for Iggy Pop.......he`s a true punk-rock pioneer....but he sucks as an actor. I`m sorry. "FUCK YOU, BIRD DICK!"
P.S. - Ian Dury (who played Noah, the old tattoo-shop dude) was a punk musician too.
