Basket Case, is about Duane Bradley, who travels to New York City, and carries a big wicker basket with him with him everywhere. Duane, rents a room in a sleazy hotel in New York, and we soon find out that what is in the basket is Duane's siamese twin who was seperated from him when he was a young boy but he always kept his deformed (monster like) brother with him. They have travelled to New York, to track down and kill all the doctors who seperated them when they were young. Also while in New York, Duane starts to like a female receptionist who he starts to date but his siamese brother does not like that. Soon many people start dying and hearing noises in the hotel. And soon while going after all the people who deformed them the siamese creature starts to get jealous of the receptionist and later go on a rampage. Basket Case, has good direction, an interesting screenplay, good film editing and some neat makeup and gore effects. Apparantly the hotel the film crew used in the movie was a real hotel and were allowed to make the film inside it as long as they didn't reveal the name of the building so the New York Health officials wouldn't investigate it for it's poor living conditions. When the film first came out in America, it was unrated but the distributors cut it to eliminate a lot of the film's blood and gore. Once the film became a cult hit and would play at theaters at midnight the gore and violence was added back into the film and is available on the video and DVD version. Basket Case, is inventive, unqiue, fun, entertaining, it's overacting is funny at times and overall the film is a very unique and fun experience for those who like their movies very bloody and very fun. This film was also followed by two sequels.

Wicked story that, in my opinion, was made a comedy by a SERIOUS lack of funds: ridiculous bit actors (who all added nicely to the overall cheesyyyyyyyy feel of the flick. Kinda reminded me of a John Waters movie that way...), BAD stop-motion(they may've been good back then..).

MUCHO replay value...

one of these days I'm gonna check out the sequals. Haven't had the guts to, yet

tis cheesy and bad but so much fun

a great story, and with enough funds it could have been very creepy although the animation for Belial was pretty good

I utterly ADORE this movie. One of my all-time favorites despite it's obvious b-grade quality and below soap-opera acting. Where the hell did they GET some of the actors ??? It's is worthy of Ed Wood comparison!! And the female lead, the love interest- what the fuck is up with that wig???

Best line:

"What about the stature of liberty? Or the Empire State Building?HAD TIME for them????????"

To each his or her own. I liked this movie for many reasons (which stated in my review). It is campy and has some cheese but I found it to be fun.

Um, I don't think "Basket Case" is intended to be taken seriously. I think it's unintentional comedy is intentional...it's a spoof people.
Henelotter set out to make a cheeseball no budget exploitation horror flick from the start, and on that level he succeeded.
For no budget, "Basket Case" is very creative. Listen to the commentary track, it's great. Still one of my favorites. The story is so twisted and original that it makes up for any deficiencies, of which there are many.
I enjoy Henelotter's films more than many other director's higher budget horror films. with no money and a lot of energy and creativity, cool films can be made.

I agree completely. Take, Frank Henenlotter's other film Frankenhooker for example. A unqiue twist on the Frankenstein story that is more funny than scary but is a spoof on the story and genre.

Not to steal Blacksnake's thunder, but I posted SOMETHING (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70612) in General Horror that would probably be of interest to those who responded to this thread.

Thanks for the link countchocula. That was a great article on Frank Henelotter. I'll look into seeing the Basket Case sequels if I can find them.
