As a student, I must say that I'm not at all impressed with the fact that this movie is being made. Sure, the SATs are evil (Read: Not at all fun) so it was just a matter of time before someone made a teen movie about them. And of course the teen movie would have a negative view towards them. Of course, this has "MONEY" written all over it. Of course, it'll be less than entertaining.
And Scarlett Johansson...WHY?! She's impressed in Ghost World and Lost in Tranlation, so what does she do next? A teen movie. Terrible move.
The movie just seems like it wants teens to watch it no matter what. It may suffere due to the lack of any adults wanting to watch it, but, alas it will make lots of money.
Still, it's a pointless movie, and the plot looks too ambigous for my tastes.
Teens will see it, and forget it by next month.
Just thinking about what a great flick this could've been if they focused on the actual pain of taking and studying for the SATs instead of some cocked-off plot involving stealing SAT answers (What?).
That's why I write scripts, to write real stuff as it is, not tripe made to make money from teens and being purely catered for the teens to see.

I could not believe that THE MATRIX was being parodied in the trailer, after like, tons of movies have already done that.
And I'm sure that Scarlett is climaxing just from the thought that this movie comes out after LOST IN TRANSLATION and GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING.

No thanks. I'll skip this one.

I was looking forward to it.....until I saw the trailer in front of School of Rock months ago. Looks like the standard not-so-funny teen flick of 2004.

Well, this was shot a while back, and since January is a dumping ground month this has probably been pushed back for quite some time.
Scarlett climaxing? Yes plz.

i was hoping it'd be like cheats but after i saw a longer trailer it just looks terrible.

Remember kids, they're not cheating!
They're stealing!
Geez, I could write taglines for these people.
Let me be the first to break the trend and say that this actually doesn't look too bad at all. I saw the trailer in front of School of Rock, and I thought it looked "decent," but the TV spots have been pretty solid and gotten me interested. A mix of Scarlett Johansson and the cool song "The Art of Losing" (recently heard in Freaky Friday) have gotten to me and I'd even consider seeing it in theaters. Besides, it's another MTV/Paramount movie, and usually they end up surprising, like ELECTION, SAVE THE LAST DANCE, and more recently the highly underrated and hilarious teen comedy ORANGE COUNTY. I thought those looked "good," but not like anything special. That's how I feel about this one, but knowing how those ones surprised me, I'm think this one could very well do the same. I won't write it off just yet.

This doesn't look as bad as other teen flicks that will be released soon (*coughYOUGOTSERVEDcough*) but it doesn't look great. I might see it in theaters, but most likely I'll see it on video. Mike, before you see this in theaters, see TAD HAMILTON. I am positive that you will love it.

Oh definitely. I really want to see TAD HAMILTON and will see it before THE PERFECT SCORE for sure. In fact, I probably won't see PERFECT SCORE in theaters, since I have too many other movies I'd rather see, but I wouldn't be against it. I'll see it on video for sure though. As for TAD HAMILTON, I was going to see it this weekend, but I wanted to see it and MONSTER together so I could kill two birds with one stone. However, MONSTER ended up not coming this weekend, so I'm hoping it does next weekend. There's a pretty decent chance it will, since Charlize will be winning her Golden Globe this weekend ;).

Poor Scarlett. She obviously wouldn't do a movie like this again. I'll be avoiding it like the plague.
I know someone who worked on this movie, and I have passes to see it Monday night at 7:30, so I'll report back.

I'm gonna see it. Mostly for Scarlett. It could be an 'ok' time, though.

All I can say is, this was crappy timing by whoever realeased this film, to release it the week AFTER kids took the January SAT's today. I might see it just for Scarlett though :)

After watching "Ghost World" and "Lost in Translation", I already pretty much adore Scarlett Johansson. She's a talented and beautiful young actress. However, despite my thoughts on Scarlett, "The Perfect Score" looks like such an incredibly stupid and shitty movie. Hell, the movie is about several highschool punks who want to steal the answer sheet for the SAT's.... who in the living hell writes this garbage! I'll be avoiding this movie like plague, you can count on that.....

Just got back from seeing it. It's what I expected. There is almost nothing to it. Fairly harmless and barely 90 minutes long, if that. Pointless movie, in a way. Every single character is a stereotype. Completely one-dimensional all the way. There's hardly any story. They try to steal the answers. That's it. Nothing more to it. Not much happens. Other than the lovely Scarlett, cast is pretty boring. Evans has no range and is as bland as they come. That was fine in something like Not Another Teen Movie, but not here. A supporting character named Roy, a stoner, is easily one of the most annoying movie characters in recent memory. Every time he spoke I cringed and wanted to shoot him. Now, if you think obvious, juvenile stoner humor is as good as comedy gets, you may find him funny. I did not. Awful. The lead's best friend is pretty annoying too, and a bad actor. Erika gets nothing to do. She's the overachiever smart girl with the overbearing parents. To be fair, I didn't think it was horrifically awful or anything like that. But it was not my thing. Maybe I'm too old for it. Wait for video, though. Not worth seeing in the theater. Nothing special about it at all. As routine as it gets. Could have been written by a computer program. No human touch here.
3/10 (That may seem harsh, cause it's harmless, but I don't think it's any better than that).

I don't think you're being harsh MadsenOMC. In fact, you just seem to be confirming all of the lame impressions that the trailer leaves.
To me, PERFECT SCORE seems to be an obvious attempt to create a contemporary BREAKFAST CLUB. My understanding is that there's even a line in the film that acknowledges the "BREAKFAST CLUB-ishness" of it all. Note to screenwriter: just because you admit you're ripping something off doesn't make it okay! And holy crap, the "Asian Guy" looks stolen right out of SIXTEEN CANDLES!
For ten years we've been buried under a relentless avalanche of Teen Movies... and of all them, not one FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF, not one WARGAMES, not one RISKY BUSINESS, and sure as hell not a film like THE BREAKFAST CLUB.
PERFECT SCORE looks like a John Hughes movie without John Hughes... what the hell is the point?!
Hope this doesn't seem harsh :)

There are a lot of pop culture references, including one to The Breakfast Club. Scarlett's character makes most of them.

I think I want to see this movie. I really like Erika Christensen and Scarlett Johansson blew me away in LIT. The commercials have been very appealing to me and I used to love the song Art of Losing by American Hi-Fi, so thats helping it out too.
still I'm not sure though, my sister said shes gunna see it, so ill probably base my final decision based on her recommendation, or lack thereof.
This was a really funny, harmless movie. I really liked it, and I might even see it again during it's normal run.
7/10 (B)

I was going to see this movie, because I used to know Chris Evans and I want to support his career, but I'll be damned if this movie doesn't look like a total pile of shit. I might just have to check out his next one.

Scarlett (and her panties) are the only good things about this movie. The Perfect Score gets a less than perfect score of 3/10.

The Perfect Score (3/10)
Starring: Scarlett Johanson, Erika Christensen, Chris Evans, Darius Miles
Directed by: Brian Robbins
Story: Six teens decide to steal the answers to the SAT tests. All of them have their reasons. That’s about it.
Review: While watching ‘The Perfect Score’, my eyes were rolling quite a bit. No, it wasn’t because of the lame plot, and no, it wasn’t because of the lame jokes (well, sort of)…it had to deal with the lam dialogue. Some of the things that the actors were spewing out of their mouths, posing as teenagers as well, just had me in awe. I was in awe because I couldn’t believe that a write actually thought that teens would say some of the things that they say, and some of the things that they do. I would know. Why? I’m a teen myself. I know what today’s teenagers think, I know how they talk. And let me tell you, this was far from what I have experienced. Granted, the dialogue in this movie wasn’t going to be good to begin with, but still, flashbacks of ‘Gigli’ were plummeting into my head. I asked myself during the movie: Why do people let someone other than John Hughes back teenage comedies? Oh, I remember…no, wait…I don’t. Why are other people making teenage comedies? None of them are good at it. Maybe Cameron Crowe, but his last teenage comedy was ‘Say Anything…’. And to clear something up, ‘Almost Famous’ was about a teenage writer covering a band. Anyway, if this film were to be written and possibly directed by Hughes, this is what we would most likely get:
-A clever story
-Clever Characters
- Clever Dialogue
-Clever Movie
Thing is, this wasn’t a John Hughes film. It was more of a horrible kind of film. What could’ve been an innocent, and even decent film turned into a film that was more like an endurance race. An endurance race to keep myself in the movie theatre. And some people may say, “Well, it’s not supposed to excellent, it’s supposed to be a fun time, what’s wrong with that?” Nothing. That is, of course, until someone gets hurt. And that someone was me, and many other movie goers. The script is lazy, the characters are lazy, the whole film is pretty lazy, actually. That isn’t a good time, that is a painful time.
You know I like Scarlett Johanson. She is soft spoken, doesn’t talk a whole lot (from what I’ve seen), but she has my respect. Her talent is far above any other young actresses in many, many years. She will, no doubt, become a golden girl of this era. But man, you’d think she would’ve know what she was getting into when she read the scrip! A girl with that talent, and obviously a brain in her, decides to do something like this?! Having said that, she was the only real redeeming factor of this whole film. At least she tried to add a hint of ‘talent’ into this mess. I also dug her whole look in this film. Normally, I’d be somewhat dim in my opinion, but I dug it. She is one of the few that looks good in that kind of ‘style’. Her performance? Forgettable, but at least there was some talent in there. The only performance that didn’t have me cringing.
Everyone else was horrible. Erika Christensen who also starred in the classic ‘Swim fan’ (note the sarcasm, folks) once again, has talent, but wastes it in the wrong movie. Everyone else, who I am not familiar with are just horrid. They should’ve done what Cameron Crowe did, go back to high school and jot down what teens do. These guys were way off. They may have talent, but it sure wasn’t displayed here.
Another thing that makes a good teen comedy is memorable characters. ‘Ferries Bueller’s Day Off’ had Ferris Bueller; there are many more, but that’s just an example. Memorable characters win our hearts, and are just plain ‘cool’. This film lacked of those. These characters were idiots. I felt like an idiot watching them. Would I want to be friends with these characters? Yeah, right. Would I even want to know them? You wish. A bunch of whiny teens (yeah, there are a lot…but still) who really, really need a reality check. They don’t even want to be memorable either. And if they do, they sure don’t show it.
In the beginning of the movie, one character says, “The SAT stands for ‘Suck Ass Test’. That’s my opinion on the movie. But I wouldn’t use such a low brow and idiotic statement to describe it. Does ‘F’ sound right? Yeah, that was an intended pun .
