Further Details
According to The Digital Bits website, Touchstone Home Entertainment have delayed the up and coming region one release of Ed Wood indefinitely. This new director's cut of the film was originally scheduled for release on the 3rd February, but that will no longer be the case. If you'd like to know more about the release (for when it finally arrives!) please refer to the related article at the bottom of this page. Obviously, we'll try and bring you more details on the delay as soon as possible. Stay tuned for further information

Damn... this sucks... why does this movcie keep on gettin delayed??

I wonder what rushmore beauty's reply is going to be like...

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed too. I wanted to buy this the first day it came out, considering I'm a big ol' fan of the flick. I just read the screenplay a couple weeks ago to get me in the mood for the dvd.

I watched the movie just a month ago and I was really looking foward to the DVD.

Terrible news.

Fuck it, guys.

With $112, you can buy a region-free DVD player, and for $15.71 more you can buy the region 2 version and get it mailed to you through Amazon UK!

I ordered it the day before yesterday, and it was shipped today.

Or I can find the code on my DVD to tamper with the regional settings, and order the R2.

Cheapest way.

Obviously. But I was speaking in reference to the logic of the guy that paid so much for the Ebay item.
I don't even have a region-free player. All my R2 DVDs are played on my computer.

I put a bid on one on ebay. Tomorrow I'm gonna check with a small store that gets good DVD's and see if they got it.
Wish me luck. If I get both I'll sell one to somebody on this board for a resonable price.

I hope the winner of that cries when it comes out in a couple of months and he sees it for $15.99 at his local store. I mean shit man, i would never pay that much money for the dvd unless they burnt every other copy on the face of the planet and the whole cast, as well as Ed Wood himself (dont ask how) signed this last one with a golden pen.

Yeah it made a couple Canadian flyers up here as well. I'm gonna check in Future Shop and Real Canadian Superstore on Tuesday just to see if they hopefully mess up and put it out.

It seems like things have calmed down on Ebay too. The copies are still selling but are mostly going for $70 instead of $115 (which is still too much money but a lot less crazy than the latter).

I called a friend of mine that works at FYE and he said that they did indeed recall Ed Wood. They had to ship all of theirs back. I begged him to set aside a copy for me but he couldn't.

I too noticed that they are still in the Best Buy ads. Yet if you goto www.bestbuy.com and click on your weekly ad it has Ed Wood in it. But when you click on it, it doesn't go directly to the DVD which leads me to believe that it was recalled.

Now I went to my local BlockBuster and for the hell of it I asked about Ed Wood the clerk told me that they were selling it and it was on the floor for sale! Needless to say I got my copy $29.99 but I got it!!!!

I have been waiting for this DVD forever! It is my favorite film. I pre-ordered a copy of the DVD from Best Buy as soon as I saw a post about it here in early December. I can't believe it but, they shipped my DVD on Jan 29TH. It is expected to reach me here by Saturday. I purchased it for $21.00. I hope it isn't a mistake and it is really coming.

P.S. I asked a seller from Ebay (who is selling tons of the DVD) why it was recalled. He said it was due to a deleted scene that was not approved by Disney. What bull shit. It is even worse if they with held the DVD because of Depp's Oscar nomination. When I first heard recalled I thought it was because the DVD was not functioning properly.

They didnt try this time. They just keep jerking around.

Besides if they did that for every movie that they say "will never get released again!' my movie collection wouldnt be half as large.

..well, it probably would, but thats not the point!

lynchfan_714
02-09-2004, 11:07 AM
accoarding to digital bits, they will most likely release it because of all the money the studio and retailers stand to loose if they just keep the movie behind closed doors.

That's the only thing that sucks about the DVD formatt, all the bases you have to cover in order to release these tittles. Not to mention the studios have to basically re-nogociate payment with all peoples involved in the tittle they are releasing.

Regarding all the rumors about the disc having technical problems...

I received my copy of Ed Wood in the mail on Saturday, watched it, and it worked perfectly.

My girlfriend also got a copy of it, and hers worked perfect as well...

No worries people, the disc is worth it!!!

I was also lucky enough to get a copy at a wherehouse music. I'm convinced I was one of probably only 5 people in Southern California who doesn't work for a DVD retailer who got a copy and I'm waiting just a little longer to see if they are gonna release it agin because I'm sure it will keep more value if it stays in it's original factory packaging.

Of course I won't wait to long because it talks to me in my sleep telling me to just open it and watch it already.

There were five copies of Ed Wood special edition at Walmart and I picked it up. The first place I looked. Nothing wrong with the disc either. The behind the scenes feature is interesting.

lynchfan_714
02-17-2004, 11:28 AM
From what I understand is a handfull of retailers got a shipment and out of that hanfull, a small handfull actually put them out on shelves. For example let's say 1 out of every 10 Walmarts got a shipment and maybe out of those 10% that actually got the DVD's in the there stores, 90% of them sent the DVD's back like they where instructed too. So your looking at maybe 1% of the DVD retailers actually slipped through the cracks and actually put the DVD out on the shelves. Hopefully all of that rambling made sense.

Because when I went on my mission to find this DVD I went to...

4 Costco's
2 Sam's clubs
4 Best Buys (had them but wouldn't sell them)
3 Walmart's
3 Targets
3 Borders (1 had them but wouldn't sell them)
1 Barnes & nobles
2 Fry's electronics
10 Blockbuster videos
5 Hollwood videos
2 Wherehouses (where they had 1 copy that I bought)

So a full tank of gas and looking through my entire County (Orange County California) I found one copy. Oh and by the way I started my search at 8am in the morning the day it was suppose to be released (Feb 3rd).

So if you hit a store that put them out. YOU LUCKED OUT!!!!!!!
