If you mean the DVX-100, then I've actually demoed one first hand.

It's a feature filled camera for sure. And it should be for that price. The 24p works well under optimum conditions, but just picking it up and shooting, it's going to look like video.

How about a Canon Optura 20 or 10?

Im trying to buy one on ebay and wondering if its any good, its got all the essesntials (manual focus, aperture, etc). And seems to be a pretty good MiniDv.

Anyone???

This is a great camera, in fact the best in its price range. I was completely blown away by its image quality and its ability to mimic film. With good cinematography this camera can give images very comparable to 16mm film. Right now I just own a XL1S but after using a friend’s DVX100 I was sold a hundred times over and I will be ordering one within the next month.

The only negative thing I can say about the camera is that you don’t have the variety of lenses that the Canon XL1S has, you are pretty much stuck with a wide angle lens. But I personally don’t care because the 24pa mode and cine-like gamma feature is well worth it, plus you can always fake the depth of field :D

And also there is an upgraded version called DVX100A, it cost only a few hundred more.

Check out this trailer to a film shot entirely on the old version of DVX100: http://www.spiritsthemovie.com/Images/spirits_trailer1.mov

And here is some more footage shot with the DVX100: http://www.jesterpictures.com/video/trailer2.mov

Keep in mind (like Beeblebrox said) that if you are only going to use the camera to point and shoot you wont get that kind of quality, its all about camera usage and cinematography. But without good Cinematography pretty much any camera is wasted anyways.

Also I hear if you hook this camera up to a Mini35 you’ll have yourself a mean setup.

I was going to start a new thread for this, but decided I'd stick my question in here instead.

Anyone know anything about the JVC GR-DV800US Mini DV Digital Camcorder ? http://hardwarecentral.dealtime.com/xPF-JVC_GR_DV800US

I don't know much about cameras except that I want a dv/ mini dv (what's the difference?) so I can shoot some short films and edit them on my computer. And compared to other dv/mini dv cameras I've looked at, this one is ridiculously cheap.

I'd get a canon or sony but I don't know enough about this camera (I'd have to use it)

I just shot a short on the DVX-100 and it looks sweet - of course we took our time setting up the lighting and making sure all of the camera settings were just so.

Highly recommended.
