I saw this 2 pack DVD at Best Buy. I heard that Deranged is about Ed Gein so I was interested. are these movies good and worth a purchase?

I saw Motel Hell on a very poor quality tape so I would like to see it again but I remember it being decent.

They are both good filcks and worth the ten bucks. Really bargain buy if you ask me. Derranged is about Ed Gein and is a million times better then the retarted movie called "Ed Gein" and Motel Hell is awesome as shit and it's really fucking weird. I really liked both films. Definetly reccomend.

From what I heard, Deranged is cut on the DVD. But if that doesn't bother you, go ahead and get it.

do you mean there is an unrated version? the version at best buy is R.

Motel Hells a weird yet cool slasher, kinda like Texas Chainsaw II yet somehow a little weirder.

Its about these weird farmers who live in the country in the middle of nowhere and they make this really tasty meat people just come from all over the place to buy it from them!

Funny shit is at the same time people are dissapearing from the town! Hmmm theres a connection here somewhere...cool flick worth a see.

This is what IMDb said. While they're not 100% or even 90% reliable, I trust them with this.
The MGM Double Feature DVD left out at least one scene of Ezzra Cobb scouping out a corpse's brains with an ice cream scoop.

For further proof, Rewind tells me:
A scene where an eyeball is taken out of a human head with a spoon (!) is cut

So I'm pretty confident that there has been some editing with it. It's a shame, but what can you do?

The DVD may be redacted, but don't let that deter you from buying it. Deranged is the definitive Gein biopic, and Motel Hell is a frolicsome "redneck horror" dish. It's one of the best double features that MGM has ladled our way.

Yeah, I agree, it's only like ten bucks.

Like said before, Motel Hell is basicly a Texas Chain Saw Massacre rip, but a good one at that. Id say pick it up.

I have the uncut version of Deranged on VHS and my wife bought me this DVD for my birthday, assuming the DVD would not only be an upgrade, but also an addition since Motel Hell is also on it. I explained to her that I was going to keep my Deranged tape since it was uncut but it was still a cool present as I had never seen Motel Hell but had always wanted to. I haven't watched the version of Deranged on the DVD so I can't verify what was cut. But the eye scooping scene is very much intact on my VHS copy.

Motel Hell is a good, dumb, two-beer slasher - perfect Saturday night DVD material! :)

I just rented this from Netflix and I last night watched Motel Hell.

There are some nice boobie scenes. I also was noticing some similarities to Texas Chainsaw in the "hospitality" of your attackers and the redneck quality of the hotel managers. Of course there is the meat smoking aspect. Thus: Texas Chansaw plus Fried Green Tomatoes = Motel Hell.

I think I will have to own this now based on the merit of Motel Hell only.

Deranged is good...however Motel Hell is the better of the two.

In all honesty, I always thought the pairing of these two was not very appropriate. Deranged is a serious flick, while Motel Hell is a campy, humorous take on a cannibal backwoods family. This movie is SCREAMING for a remake.

?????????

I'll have to humbly disagree. Which aspects of Motel Hell need to be rejuvenated? The convincing special effects? The sharp humor? The addictive drive-in vibe?

I hated Deranged, totally grossed me out as it was. I think if I had seen any more grossness (via an uncut version) I would have been sick.

Motel Hell was funny. I won't be buying this though as Deranged was too repulsive.

But isn't that the whole point? The subject matter isn't exactly lighthearted.

For me, no.

I love horror, but my favorites have some humor mixed in. My favorites have some suspense. This movie had neither. It was like a recreation of the sick things this guy did in the most dry way possible. And heck there was no suspense. I knew what he was going to do. No secrets in this one.

Most horror movies I love. Cheezier the better or the scarier the better. BUt this was just wrong. I know I'm not being very susinct, but I don't know how to express it any better than that.

I love horror but not Deranged. :)

I don`t know count, I doubt this one can top their "Ghoulies/Ghoulies II" double-feature pack!

Heh, good point.

Miceland, Deranged is an examination of the unsound, aberrant mind. It's not there to thrill or entertain you. I'd liken it to a textbook, but that's not a flattering comparison. I guess it just depends on what you look for in the genre.

I agree that it was very clinical. My problem is that if it is supposed to be factual it should not be offered up as a piece of entertianment. Which I'm sure we can agree it was. Especially being packaged with a humorous film like Motel Hell. Deranged didn't entertain me, it didn't educate me. It just made me feel gross. I felt implicated in these crimes for having watched the film. Thats not something I relish and its not something tah tthe countelss other horror movies I've watched makes me feel.

I'm sure that someone likes this film. It's just not me.

Doesn't a killer in Motel Hell at one point where a pig mask?

I remember enjoying Motel Hell. What I remember even more is that my wisdom teeth were coming through while I was watching it and causing me all sorts of agony. The movie proved useful in that it had me feeling glad that I just had toothache and wasn't buried up to my neck in some stranger's backyard with my vocal chords cut!

I think that is one of the key reasons horror can be so enjoyable. No not specifically when you are getting detal work done. But when you are suffering it can be very satisfying to see some one (act like they are) suffer(ing) more athn you are suffering.

I know lately I have been through some less than stelar times and a good horror movie can make things seem not quite so bad.
