Looks like '04 is picking right up where '03 ended.

A big fave of my Mom's. Had the same sort of urbane charm that Carson did, and was more Johnny's template than Steve Allen for The Tonight Show. Dave Letterman had him on his NBC show a few times and I'll be really surprised if Dave doesn't mention it tonight.
Jack walked off in disgust at the NBC censors for giving him trouble for mentioning a bathroom (he actually said "W.C.", for water closet...I'm surprised the country didn't immediately surrender to Khruschev...) Literally split the scene in protest.
A real man.
I understand he was ill for a while. I hope he's at peace.

Very sad news. Admittedly, I've seen very little of Paar's work on The Tonight Show except for excerpts here and there, but his influence was obvious and his comic gift undeniable. Rest in peace.

Same here.
I've never been too familair with him, but the news shook my mother up a good bit( and she's a tough old broad). Seemed like a genuinly funny guy, and he will be missed.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Truly a trailblazer of late night talk . . .
This is a very depressing bit of news . . .:(
RIP, Jack.
Jack Parr started it all. Were it not for him, we wouldn't have Carson, Letterman and Leno. (Not to mention a whole host of others.) I saw a few episodes in repeats as a child. Most famous was his show with a very hammered Judy Garland. He maintained his composure even when she slurred words and rambled on. The man was every bit the charming host. He will be missed.
