Batman and Batman Returns both were scored wonderfully by Danny Elfman. It was the best the character has ever had in my opinion. By the time Batman Forever arrived, and Burton left the directing chair, new music was brought in. The new stuff wasn't bad, in fact, it was really good in some respects, but it was campy, as was the film (i really liked Batman Forever for what it was). I think it was too campy for the Batman we were used to on film. It was more in lines with the Adam West's Batman. Same goes for the follow up, Batman & Robin.
With Nolan's Batman, a new composer is in,David Julyan (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0432382/). The rights to Elfman's score and the sequals score (dont know who did it) are probobly not in his hands. He'll have to start from scratch.
His only musical backround im familiar with is his work in Nolan's Memento, Insomia and Following (which i still havent seen :( )
Having only seen Memento and Insomia I would concider him to be a gifted musician, though i wonder if Batman will have a main theme or not in this new one. Would it ever be as dark as Elfmans? What do you guys think it will be like?

Great question, since we're going with an almost all-star cast, why not add John Williams. He's the best one out there, but he probably isn't the right person for it. Hmmm, someone that's really dark with their music.
It's hard for me to decide, but i'll leave it up to Nolan, and i trust whoever he chooses to go with. Cause he hasn't done anything wrong yet.

Well, someone dark for sure. Danny Elfman is the best choice. But whatever works for Nolan y'know?

I've got no problem with Nolan using his go to guy. Memento and Insomnia had fantastic scores.

I all up for David to score this film. I'm sure he's going to do a great job.

David Julyan could do a Batman score easily, he's very gifted from what i've heard plus i think he'll give the Batman movies that dark atmosphere feeling to them in his music!

Elfman should just do this one again...He's the man.

As much as I love Elfman, I think he is wrong for this film. Whereas his scores fit perfectly with the fantasy like Gotham of Burton's Batman, I think it won't work with Nolan's dark and gritty realistic take. I think David is the right man, him and Nolan know how to work together. Plus Memento's score was fantastic.

Danny Elfman is the man for the job, but, if unavailable, bring Elliot Goldenthal... his music is one of the darkest there is... Listen to "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" OST and figure it out for yourself! :)

I'll be pretty upset if Danny Elfman doesn't get to do the score for this one.

From what i read awhile back, on Dark Horizons, There will be a new score. Not the "BATMAN" theme we have come to know. Which is the only thing i dont like about it. But it wont ruin it for me

Howard Shore could easily handle something like this .

This is one thing about Batman Begins that I know for a fact will disappoint me, there is now way in hell anyone can outdo Elfman’s score for Batman. Even if the new score turns out great it will still be overshadowed by what Elfman did.

Danny Elfman shouldn't do this one. First of all, his kind of music fits Tim Burton-like stuff -- dark...but in the same time dreamy, bizarre, with a little bit of magic there. I think Nolan is going for rough and gritty over dreamy and magically wicked. And second of all, we've seen with the SPIDER-MAN score that, even though it was terrific and fit the movie fine, Elfman tends to somewhat repeat himself when he's doing superhero movies. That's why I think that, if given the opportunity to do BATMAN BEGINS, he'd probably disappoint us, with a score that barely fits, and that feels like a "meh" mix of the SPIDER-MAN and BATMAN scores.
I do think they should use the existing theme in the movie, though. Even if it's not the main theme -- put it in the credits, in a couple of scenes where Batman appears or something. It'll at least give us some sense of acknowledging the Burton era of the movies, and besides, the theme just plain rules. It'd feel wrong not to have it appear once in the flick.

Elfman can't write a score without making it sound like he's strangling a cat with a violin wire. He's overwrought at the best of times and his work on Spiderman was a weak retread of Batman, so how could he possibly come up with anything original if he was asked to score Batman Begins. I think Julyan will produce something far more contemporary and relevant.

What about John Barry ? He has done some amazing soundtracks , King Kong remake , Game of Death , Moonraker , Man with the Golden Gun , The Deep . Yeah , i admit , those were all from the 70's , and his recent output hasn't exactly reached those heights , but i could see him pull it off no prob . He would prob relish the challenge .
And , i agree , Elfman's Bat theme has to be in BB somewhere , so no matter who scores this , hope they chuck it in .
