1. "Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace"- Too much hype clouded people's judgement; the dialogue is horrendous at times, but everything else is damn good.

2. "Jackie Brown"- Didn't get the respect it deserved, even if it did continue to show Tarantino's genius for dialogue.

3. "Grosse Pointe Blank"- Before he made "High Fidelity," John Cusack starred and wrote in this dark comic romance. One of the '90s coolest movies.

4. "Keeping the Faith"- Edward "Fight Club" Norton's sweet, sexy, lovely romantic triangle between a priest, a rabbi, and their old friend.

5. "The River Wild"- Before he made "L.A. Confidential" and "Wonder Boys," Curtis Hanson made this riveting rafting thriller that's every bit as good as "Speed" and "The Fugitive."

6. "Broken Arrow"- OK, this is John Woo on auto-pilot, but it's FUN. Great action scenes, fun characters, exciting music, and Woo still makes a better action flick than the Bruckheimer squad (Bay, West, Sena), even if he is slumming. (P.S.- This goes for "M:i-2" as well.)

7. "The Crow: Salvation"- Most people will acknowledge the following about the series: 1) the Brandon Lee original will always be the best; 2) "Crow: City of Angels" more or less sucked; and 3) they shouldn't have made anything after the Brandon Lee origina. What I'll personally say is that no, "Salvation" isn't as good as the original, but it's unique enough to be a considerable improvement over "City of Angels."

8. "Kafka"- Steven Soderbergh's follow-up to "sex, lies, & videotape" is a forgotten gem, with a clever plot, excellent performances, and striking visual look and music. Even if Soderbergh isn't too pleased with it, I think he did a fine job. ("King of the Hill" from 1993 is also another neglected gem from Soderbergh.)

9. "Swingers"- A great, hilarious comedy about guys, girls, being "money," and relationships. Great soundtrack, great script, great characters, great acting, great movie.

10. "The Whole Wide World"- One of the all-time best films about the creative process and soul of a tortured artist. Vincent D'Onofrio's finest performance ever as the volitile Robert E. Howard, and Renee Zellweger's best performance till "Nurse Betty." Incredibly powerful on all levels.

Two Movies from 2000 were underrated

The Beach-Leonardo DiCaprio was great in this dark and physcological thriller. Robert Carlyle was great as Daffy. This is a mysterious film. You don't know what is going to happen next. The main character could have sex or get shot at. And our hero Richard(DiCaprio) is a cool and normal guy to take us on this epic adventure where you go where no man has gone before. Plus a cool soundtrack and a video game sequence.

Battlefield Earth- This film was pounded by critics but was really a cool Science fiction flick. John Travolta was belivable as the evil Terl. This guy was one evil dude. The hero was great and delivered a Braveheart speech well. The effects were cool considering they worked on a minor budget.

Both these flicks should be checked out and bought.

Gladiator- It may seem strange to call an Oscar winner underated, but few people seem to recognize how good this movie actually was.
P.S.- Thanks to bskutle for having the balls to admit he liked Phantom Menace. It's nice to know I'm not alone on that one.

No problem Ender. The effects are great, the stories not nearly as horrible as people made it out to be, the acting was underrated, the music was some of Williams' best, and the action was exciting. Why should anyone be embarassed for liking it?
