Just got my uncut copy of this great Hammer film from DD Video .
It's always been my favourite of the Cushing / Frankensteins .
It was the great Terence Fishers last movie and also the last time dear old Pete played the Baron .
Dave Prowse ( yup , Darth Vadar ) plays the monster and the lovely Madeline Smith is on board as the Hammer glamour .
It has a wonderful gothic atmosphere and is full of marvellous set pieces .
It's a real class act .

Mmm never seen this one. I did finish watching Blackenstein. It was a buck, I bought it and it was not bad, kinda slow and hokey at times. I am going to check out the one you are posting about soon.

How is the uncut version different from the cut version? Is the R1 release uncut?

The Region 1 release is the exact same ( cut ) print that was initially released on Region 2 .
The uncut print shows the scene where Cushing assists in reattaching an artery in the monsters hand by holding it in his teeth . This scene was intact on previous video releases and on TV in Britain .
When DD Video realised that they had a cut version they reissued it with the uncut one . Anyone with the cut version can have it replaced free of charge with the uncut one . Just contact www.ddvideo.co.uk ( Region 2 only )
The region 1 is well worth having for the commentarry which is'nt on the r2 release .
One of those occasions where I had to but the same film twice ................... but it's worth it .

Cool, I just bought this and Im going to see it tonight so Ill tell you guys my thoughts on it after I see it, but Im preatty sure Im in for a treat. Sounds like one of Hammers best flicks. I guess they wanted to go out of the Frankie franchise with a bang and from the sounds of it they did.
By the way I bought the one that Paramount released is that one any different, is it edited or do I have the full cut of the flick?

If the scene I described in my earlier post is missing then it's the cut print .

Just saw this last night, great great flick. Loved every second of it.
Frankenstein and Simon get really grizzly on this one, the really go show a lot of gory stuff during the operation sequences! Loved that brain transplant and the hands! That was great. Sadly my version was missing that scene that you mentioned earlier.
It shows them having a problem with an artery in the hands...then they cut to the Dr. saying "there see? It could be done!" So basically I missed that, but the rest of the film seemed intact.
I had lots of fun with this one, the creature itself looked interesting but a little too much like a man in a rubber suit feel to it sometimes. But that didnt stop me from enjoying the hell out of it.

Hey Spacemonkey , I just read your review and I could'nt agree more .
It's one of the few Hammer films I actually saw at the cinema .
It was on a Sunday night in 1977 . I remember the year so well because it was The Queens silver jubilee and the poster for " Silver Streak " was in the cinema foyer advertising it as " A Royal Premiere "
FATMFH was part of a horror double bill for one night only . I can't remember what the other film was but It did'nt matter . hammer horror was the reason I was there and I was'nt dissapointed .
Ah the good old days when a lad of 14 was allowed into see an x cert movie . Cinema managers were cooler then .

Fantastic movie. Among my favorite Hammer movies. How good was Peter Cushing? He had a passion for making films and proves it here. I know this flick can be found cheap in the Wal-Mart DVD bins so pick it up and have a good time with it.
