Hey has anyone seen this movie called Clownhouse?
Is this ever coming out on DVD again? I know it was released on DVD before but it is very hard to find now.
Is this movie any good?
Let me know your opinions on this movie. Thanks.

Clownhouse had a good potential but the director failed in term of fear and violence.
Killer clowns + kids alone in a big isolated house, it should have been much more violent and aggressive according to me.
The film has a tv look to it I would give a 6/10

The movie itself isen't all that bad if you can get over what he did to the lead actor. Victor Salva is one sick man. but the movie itself isen't too bad like its got some nice killers, the lead actors actualy look scared sometimes. It is missing those kills that make you go nicccccccccce.
:D

Peace,

This movie is awesome!!:D The best CLOWN horror movie ever. It is creepy, with a cool Circus atmosphere and a creepy score. It does have a few flaws, and it is a little short, but still an excellent movie.

I also agree that it has a few flaws, but I'm hardly going to diss my favourite movie of all time am I?!!! LOL! Anyway, although the violence is mainly implied, I think that's why it works. The director knew that seeing a clown creep about in the shadows is scary enough, you don't need to see someones head get chopped off!
The relationship between the three brothers is realistic too, which, in turn makes the film seem real, and the events unfolding, believable to a certain extent. I know tons of brothers who act that way to each other, so I thought the dialogue was great.

Mediocre. It's creepy enough (Salva's direction is splendorous), but I hated the characters with a passion.

May we all talk about CLOWNHOUSE, big up CLOWNHOUSE and love and respect CLOWNHOUSE for the classic horror movie that it is. Now I'd like to leave y'all with one of my favourite quotes from the film:

RANDY (SAM ROCKWELL): Just because it's dark doesn't mean there's something awful out there!

CASEY (NATHAN FORREST-WINTERS): It means you can't tell if there is.

Am I missing something here??
The DVD never came out...it was postponed from itīs original date in August last year by MGM...why was never answered, but it could have been something about what happened between Salva and the boy Casey...but that is only speculations...
I love Clown house and think it is an earie little horrormovie...
Hope this will come out one day so I could cancel my VHS of it...

The family of the boy abused by the director VICTOR SALVA kicked up such a fuss MGM had no choice but to pull it. Obviously it's understandable the company didn't want any negative publicity, but FUCK ME I hadn't felt that bad since I found out the rumours on the IMDB about CLOWNHOUSE 2 were fucking false!

Pardon my ignorance but what is this story about Victor Salva allegedly abusing a young boy?, I'm a fan of both Clownhouse and Jeepers Creepers but if there is any substance at all to these rumours then I will be a fan of his no more.

Thanks for the link Count.

Three years behind bars is definitely not enough in my opinion, I'm amazed at the leniency in this case.

I suppose on reflection whether you believe the sentence fits the crime, he has been convicted of it nonetheless, however what he did I find extremely disturbing, I wonder how many more individuals have suffered similar abuse yet not reported it?.

What a can of worms.

XCORYX -

Yeah I noticed how that song isn't listed in the end credits too, and would love to have a copy of it!!!

JAGGED HALO -

Sorry about that dude. It sucks on many levels. There are way more reasons than the obvious why I really wished this never happened but it did, and that's the way it is I guess.

Having said that, I'm one of the lucky ones who can actually watch this film and see all the unnecessary shots of young males without it ruining the viewing. I had seen the film many times before finding out what had happened, so that must be a main reason.

What SALVA did makes him a disgusting human being, but his work on CLOWNHOUSE deserves to be recognised. I love it, and am thankful he made it.

I'm not. If extirpating Clownhouse from the annals of horror history meant that Nathan Forrest Winters would have had a normal childhood, I'd do it.

Yeah I would too,and thats saying alot regarding how much i enjoyed this one...any normal person would take a kids life over a movie, not to say if you wouldn't your not normal...well,i dont know either way just voicing my opinion...but we all know this could never happen,so the least we can do is enjoy it,to me atleast,as it has nothing to do with me,and he was justified in some terms...

Don't get me wrong guys I didn't mean it like that. I'm glad he made the film, but obviously I would've loved to completely deny him the opportunity to be with FORREST WINTERS alone inbetween takes. I mean, fair enough nobody knew he was a paedophile, but why were they given the chance to be alone?!!! Where were his parents?!! Surely they would've spent alot of time at the set too?

What I'm trying to say is in any other circumstances this film would've been made without any drama.

Without wanting to start a flame war, I don't think Clownhouse could be considered a classic horror movie by any means.

It has a mediocre plot, a few jumps, and no gore, it will certainly be remembered for reasons far more disturbing than anything we are presented with on screen.

:(

02-24-2004, 05:31 PM
Yea, 'Clownhouse' was a little short, and it didn't have the greatest plot and was pretty much gore-free, but I consider it the 'Halloween' of Clown movies. 'Halloween' and 'Clownhouse' are similar on many levels. Both had awesome direction. Both were pretty much goreless. Both had small budgets. Both were from directors starting out their careers. Both had creepy atmosphere.

The reason I bring these points up, is that a lot of people think 'Clownhouse' sucks, but think 'Halloween' is awesome. There isn't much diff imo.

Salva might have been sly enough to earn their trust. The notorious Albert Fish delusively escorted a little girl to a "birthday party" where he proceeded to kill, cook, and eat her.

For the record, I feel that both Halloween and Clownhouse are mediocre.

This movie should have been much much more violent to me.

!MorganOnyx!
02-27-2004, 05:57 AM
I can see how you would feel that way. To a certain extent I would've been interested to see a violent version, where maybe a couple of the brothers get killed and a handlful of neighbours etc but overall I think SALVA got it right because once the kills started setting in it would've probably just become another slasher flick that just isn't scary.

Well I finally watched the "legendary" Clownhouse on Youtube last night. Pretty mediocre film if I do say so myself. Made for television movies from twenty years ago just don't hold up well. If I had grown up with this film like others had maybe I would rate it a bit higher but I don't have that connection to it. I'm still glad I have finally seen it just because of all the talk about it on the boards and the controversy over the years. I'd rank it below Jeepers Creepers but still ahead of the turd that is Jeepers Creepers 2. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I seen this last year around Fall, it was dissapointing but there were parts that I found creepy, and the directing was mostly atmospheric. The music brought it down a lot for me unfortunately, I liked the spooky circus music in the trailer better.

BTW, I've been looking for that Don't Be Afraid of the Dark song for a while too, as I am a big fan of catchy tunes from the 80's. One of my favs from that era (Spin me round like a record) got remade as a dumb club/rap song. Off topic, yup. :D

Clownhouse.

Despite the tragic events that occured with Slava I do consider this a great film. I am pretty pissed that I don't own it anymore because somebody swiped my DVD-R copy from collection....FN' rat bastards! I loved the older bastard brother played by Sam Rockwell, plus he was great in the 'Green Mile' as Billy the Kid. Sam plays a great slime ball thats for sure!

I am in the market for a new copy on DVD or DVD-R if anyone wants to trade for it or sell one. hint, hint.;)

FUCKING HELL! Over 8 years since I joined and CLOWNHOUSE still pops up every now and then. Nice to know. I'm still desperate to see SALVA'S short SOMETHING IN THE BASEMENT, which also starred FORREST-WINTERS. I wonder if their "relationship" started there? Also tried to find the epsiode of GERALDO that featured him but no dice.

Lol. I want that song too. Check it out, Karl-Heinz Teuber who played Real Dippo has posted his various acting work on YouTube so I wrote him a few comments and he actually replied!!! You can imagine how excited this Clownhouse geek was to hear from one of the cast!!!!

Not a big fan eh? Despite the stigma associated with C.H. I still enjoy this flick. Granted it is a slow-burner though I have to agree with you there. But, I like the atmosphere provided in the 2nd half of the film. :) BTW Halo, I'll bet you secretly have a copy in your DVD collection:p
