My favorite Bond of all time, well, save for Connery, has just been ousted :(

From The Chicago Sun-Times --

Brosnan getting kicked out of her majesty's secret service

LOS ANGELES -- Sounds as though it's bye bye Bond for Pierce Brosnan. The actor reportedly has just learned that the producers of the 007 films will not pick up his option to cast him in what would have been his final outing as the enduring British spy.

Though still considered a major heartthrob by female fans around the globe, it's believed that at age 50, Brosnan was considered too old to say "shaken, not stirred," one more time.

Brosnan himself has frequently said he was more than ready to pass on the Bond mantle -- a role he has successfully portrayed in four movies -- racking up more than a record $1.5 billion at the box office. In addition to the long-standing names on the Brosnan successor list -- Jude Law, Christian Bale and Orlando Bloom -- insiders say Colin Farrell and Hugh Jackman are the current top prospects.

IS PIERCE BROSNAN OVER THE HILL?

Pierce Brosnan reportedly has had his license to kill revoked.
After his appearance in the video game "James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing" (out Feb. 17), Brosnan likely leaves the famous secret agent behind.
Is Brosnan simply too old for the role? We look at the ages of other movie Bonds:

Sean Connery
Number of appearances as Bond: 7
First appearance: 1962's "Dr. No"
Age at first appearance: 32
Last appearance: 1983's "Never Say Never Again."
Age at last appearance: 51

David Niven
Number of appearances as Bond: 1
First/last appearance: 1967's "Casino Royale"
Age at last appearance: 58

George Lazenby
Number of appearances as Bond: 1
First/last appearance: 1969's "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
Age at last appearance: 30

Roger Moore
Number of appearances as Bond: 7
First appearance: 1973's "Live and Let Die"
Age at first appearance: 45
Last appearance: 1985's "A View to a Kill"
Age at last appearance: 57

Timothy Dalton
Number of appearances as Bond: 2
First appearance: 1987's "The Living Daylights"
Age at first appearance: 41
Last appearance: 1989's "Licence to Kill"
Age at last appearance: 42

Pierce Brosnan
Number of appearances as Bond: 4
First appearance: 1995's "GoldenEye"
Age at first appearance: 42
Last appearance: 2002's "Die Another Day"
Age at last appearance: 49

The London press is saying that though Brosnan's last Bond film, "Die Another Day," which teamed him with actress Halle Berry, pulled in more than $300 million at the box office, the producers don't believe he can top that.

A spokesman for Eon Productions (which owns the Bond franchise) confirmed that Brosnan may "retire" as 007. "We are always looking to target younger audiences. . . . We want fans who will still be watching in 40 years."

They'll still be watching in 40 years if the movies are good, Mr. Eon Psychic Youth Analyst. I'm within that "elite" younger demographic that they speak of, and I don't have a problem with Brosnan continuing on as Bond for at least two more films. But maybe I'm biased, since Brosnan is my personal favorite Bond alongside Connery.

If they pick a new Bond, it better not be Orlando Bloom. That's all I have to say.

I concur. I really wish Brosnan would do atleast one last Bond film. He's my fav. Even moreso than Connery.

If the frontrunners are between Collin Farrell and Hugh Jackman then GOD please let it be Jackman. I like Farrell alot. He's a really good actor but I don't see him as Bond. Whereas I think Jackman would actually make a fine Bond.

Farrell and Bloom simply aren't right for Bond. They're too young. Hugh Jackman I could possibly see, but though I like Russell Crowe quite a bit, I can't see him in the role.

Colin Farrell must not become Bond. Must NOT I say!!

They are not too young if this is suppose to a prequal with Bond on his first mission which is what I've read in some places. Even so, I'd still say they are wrong for Bond.

According to Variety, Brosnan will be back for the 21st installment of James Bond.

I agree with Clive Owen. Since Christian Bale is off doing Batman (God, thank you oh so much), Clive is now the perfect choice to fill Brosnan's shoes.

Another idea I have had, though is Hugh Jackman. Anyone agree at all?

He could be a good James Bond, but then again, it'd be hard to get him to committ to sequels. After all, he has X-Men and potentially Van Helsing

If you dye Paul Bettany's hair dark, I think he'd make a great Bond. But, my dream 007 is Mr. Bale. However, I don't think he'd ever do it now because he has Batman.

Now that Bale's out, my vote goes to him and Dougray Scott.

As for everyone else:

-Jeremy Northam: Too friendly looking.

-Orlando Bloom: Too young.

-Paul Bettany: Not bad, but would make a better villian than a Bond.

-Colin Farrell: Same here, I like him, BUT FUCK NO.

-Hugh Jackman: Interesting...ok, he's my third vote.

I second , third , fourth , fifth , etc.. Clive Owen as Bond , he puts all the other candidates to shame , but he hasn't exactly lit up the box office , and i doubt he's in the teeny bopper chicks radar , which is what the producers are probably looking for .

The one last chance he has , is if King Arthur is a hit , it will put him in the mainstream spotlight and most likely put him in the running for the superspy role . Other than that , they will go with the usual Golden Boy and pander to the teen / early twenties demographic , which means a pretty boy will be working for her majesty , if not in the next Bond installment , then in the one after that .

Clive Owen was born to play Bond , he's the very essence of the character that was in the novels , even more so than Sean Connery , hope he gets his chance to shine . I've given up on Bond , ever since Moonraker , but Owen in the role would bring me back .

Check out Owen in Croupier , that's all you need to see to convince you .

Personally, I've always thought Jude Law would make a great James Bond.

I've seen a couple of Brosnan Bond films , and i don't like any of them , it's a tired franchise and Brosnan can't save it .

I have a better pick for Bond . How about the former Vanilla Ice , Rob Van Winkle . He's currently starring in the Surreal Life , and he's proven he has a cerain charismatic edge , even though he may not be able to pull off the British accent :) .

HUGH JACKMAN?!! God no! The guy is Wolverine , now he is Van Helsing. He can't be James Bond! he already has 2 popular characters in his career. Like Halle Berry, who wanted to be everything: Storm, Catwoman, Jinx... I don't think this is good for the characters. I mean, it would be like seeing Angelina Jolie playing Wonderwoman.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Angelina Jolie as Wonderwoman. After all, she seems to enjoy being on-screen in nothing but her birthday suit, and then there's the lasso as well...

There was more to this but I seem to have lost my train of thought...all well.

Why no Colin Farrell? I would love to see him as Bond! Well, I usually like to see him as anything... excluding American Outlaws however. Why so boring? Anyway, YES, to Colin; some day.
