Goodfellas is one of the greatest mob movies ever.

Kubrick still wins though.

Martin Scorsese, Kubrick was brilliant, one of the five best directors ever, but Scorsese is the greatest man to ever walk the planet, a fucking God.

Kubrick had much better versatility. Scorsese is very impressive (I, for one, really liked Bringing Out The Dead), but since Stanley Kubrick will undoubtedly be judging all of our souls when we die, my vote must go to him.

In a fight(if Stan was still alive),Scorcese.

But since Kubrick will be judging us,and I for one don't wanna be thrown in to a LAKE OF FIRE!!!I'll go with Kubrick because of CLOCKWORK ORANGE.

I loved that movie.

I'd have to go with Kubrick, if only because I haven't seen enough of Scorcese's work to make a fair judgment. /ubb/redface.gif

I gotta agree with QUENTIN, Kubrick is one of the best, but Scorsese is THE best ever...

I've enjoyed Scorsese movies with more consistency than I have Kubrick movies. I think Scorsese is better at getting to the heart of characters and getting down deep under their fingernails. Kubrick is more thematic and suggestive. In a fight, Marty would hand Kubrick his ass; no doubt about it. Stan might have a weight advantage over Marty, but we all know he's an artistic recluse and as such he will be fighting a one man battle. Marty however will have DeNiro and Pesci and Liotta backing him up ready to lay the smack down.

Finally, my man RicShaw is the one who comes up with a quality "VS" topic!

I'll go with Kubrick on this one, but only slightly.

Kubrick's Great Films:
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
2001

Scorcese's Great Films:
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
After Hours
The Last Temptation of Christ
The King of Comedy

Scorcese will be my pick.

I agree...They are sort of tied for my 4th favorite director. Kurosawa, Hitchcock, and Fellini are the top 3.

now THIS is a challenging topic.

i'd say Kubrick is a superior director, but his perfectionist nature gets in the way of his creative process, and few of his films are as good as the best of Scorsese.

I'll take Scorsese, even though Dr. Strangelove is higher on my top 10 than GoodFellas and Taxi Driver.

That's a close one, but I'm going with Kubrick...

Scorcese, I think Kubrick is very overrated.

This is cool because Scorsese is actually my No. 1 director, while Kubrick is No. 2. So, obviously I choose Scorsese but it's close.

MARTIN SCORSESE

I think Kubrick established himself in a different time period when studios where a lot less artistically negotiable; so some props need to be handed out where that's concerned. That, and every Kubrick movie stands out to me...... Not that Martin's don't; and I guess that's what's makes it so hard to pick one. But, I think Stanley's fingerprint imprints a little deeper than Scorsese's at this point.
