I am a bitty iffy on COVERS in general. Who ever is re-doing a given song usually a hit or miss.
There are SOME featured on The 50 FIRST DATES soundtrack I kinda liked. For starters "Love Song" by 311 which is waaay different from their usual sound stood out IMO the best one on the album.
The "Slave To Love" I would have thumbed down but w/ Gwen Stefani featured may not be soo bad after all. Ziggy Marley doin "Drive".....ummmm I dunno about that. As for the rest... well.:(

I love 311's cover of Love Song, one the best songs out right now. And I am glad Sandler tryed to do something with his soundtracks.

I like the 311 song. I havent heard any of the other ones, but since I like the originals, I am guessing I will probably enjoy the remakes as well.

yeah I've always liked 311's mellow edge. Their albums are sloppy but their singles are great and so is the love song. Glad to hear the OST is good :)

call me party pooper but after seeing the video for "Lovesong" cover by 311 I must post how much it sucks, just terrible to my ears... the snake river conspiracy cover of the same song is WAY better....

I'm a devoted fan of all the original versions of those songs and I usually don't like cover versions but I've got to admit that after hearing the covers of those songs in the movie I was genuinely impressed by all of them. A truly excellent reggae-flavored spin on all those 80's classics. It was a great idea to do it that way and in my opinion a very successful one. "Drive", "Slave to Love" and "Every Breath You Take" are particular standouts.

311's songs used in the film were great and very fitting (Amber is a personal favorite).

I'm sure I'll eventually pick this soundtrack up.
