I think it's about time we have a thread about one of the best bands to come out of the 80s and influence a shitload of artists while doing so (Nirvana, Radiohead, Weezer, U2...)
Of course, they're finally reuniting, after a nasty breakup and that basically means the state of music will only get better... yippie!
Some of my favorite songs:
Motorway To Roswell
Break My Body
Distance Equals Rate Times Time
Where Is My Mind?
Gigantic
Broken Face
I Bleed
Alec Eiffel
Gouge Away
In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)
Whatcha think...?!

I LOOOVE:
In Heaven (Lady in the radiator song)
Monkey gone to heaven
Ana
Where Is My Mind?
Velouria
a fantastic band whom I am very stoked about reuniting.

I consider "Debaser" to be one of the best songs ever recorded
"Gouge Away" has a greatest bassline, great song
"Hey", "I Bleed" and "Where is my Mind?" are my favorites from them to sing along to.
"Dig For Fire" is probably the most underrated cut.
Lyrically my favorites are :
"Nimrod's Son"
"Cactus" (Bowie does a great cover)
"Bone Machine"
"Gigantic", "All Over The World", "Here Comes Your Man", "Havalina" are their most beautiful songs
I also love when they go randomly insane - "Tame", "Rock Music", "Crackity Jones", "Broken Face"
Other simply great tracks:
"Blown Away"
"Dead"
"The Navajo Know"
"La La Love You"
"Subbacultcha"
"Tony's Theme"
"Break My Body"
"Brick is Red"
"Wave of Mutilation"
I'm hard pressed to find any bad songs from them. Probably the most consistently brilliant band of all time.
I've got two of their albums, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle. Although there's a lot of great tracks, neither album has a really great flow, so both are less than the sum of their parts, IMO. Still a pretty solid band, though.

Blasphemy, some would say. But it's cool to have opinions! I think Doolittle has a similar flavour within each song... but God knows what you'd think of Teenager of the Year, which is pretty disparate IMO!!!!

I just recently got in to The Pixies by hearing "Where Is My Mind" at the end of Fight Club, so I bought Surfer Rosa and I was blown away at the original sound and lyrics, great album and I will be getting more of their cd's soon.

My fave Pixies CDs are Trompe Le Monde and Bossanove. I really like Doolittle but am not as into as other fans are. Come on Pilgrim is good but short, and Surfer Rosa was hard to get into but still some good tracks.
The reunion is great news, does anyone know the specifics? Like tour dates or any new music?
My FAVE song is:
Motorway to Roswell
Other faves:
Ana
All Over The World
Hang Wire
Trompe le Monde
Alec Eiffel
Distance Equals Rate Times Time
Monkey Gone To Heaven
Hey
Gouge Away
Levitate Me
Caribou
Where is My Mind?
Break my Body
Many other good ones, too. These are just the essentials.

Anyone been to they’re reunited gigs? I recently seen them in Dublin, I’ve been a huge Pixies fan for years now and I just couldn’t help, but go mad when they were performing. Needless to say I got some very strange looks :)! The new track, which you mentioned ‘Sigur’, is fantastic. It really made me wonder if this is how the Pixies could have sounded, if they never departed!

Love them Pixies! Debaser is one of those songs I can just repeat over & over again & not get sick of it.
I'm glad I saw this thread, I'm going to check if tickets are on sale for when they come to town this fall.

Fuck all of you. (not really.... Im just upset.)
You just reminded me that I have 2 tickets for The Pixies in Boca Raton, Florida -- And I'm not going to be able to go, because I'm moving north in September (the concert's in October.)
:(
My favorite song will always be Wave of Mutilation, because it brings back lots of HS memories for me thanks to the revamp on the Pump of The Volume Soundtrack. I used to listen to that song every day on the way to school -- up until the Dean confiscated it along with my walkman one day.
Burn in hell Dean Gruin!

If you can't make it, I'd be happy to go in your place. I live no less than an hour from Boca and would love to go... :D ;)

U2 came before the Pixies, so how did they influence them? During their career?

On another note has anyone heard the new song the Pixies recorded a couple of years ago called Bam Thwok? I listened to it but it didn't really move me either way. Has a weird organ solo in the middle of it. I think most fans were upset and thought the Pixies tarnished their reputation. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I love the Pixies. I dont really have a fav. of theirs but maybe Monkey Gone to Heaven.
I love Surfer Rosa the best out of all their albums.

I only have 'Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle", but I love them both so much that I can`t really pick favorite songs.
But if I HAD too, I guess "Monkey gone To Heaven" or "Where Is My Mind".
What Pixies album should I get next?

Fucking thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves this album. It's actually my favorite album of theirs. My favorite song has to be Letter to Memphis. When they do the main riff over that high hammer on, eargasim.
Great fucking band though.

Yeah Trompe le Monde is hideously underrated. I definitely recommend it. Might be my favorite album of theirs next to Surfer Rosa. Alec Eiffel, The Sad Punk, Letter to Memphis, Planet of Sound... why was this album frowned at upon its release? Luckily it has been recieving greater praise with time. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Trompe Le Monde is also my favorite Pixies album, and I say that as a BIG Pixies fan.
"Bird Dream of Olympus Mons" is beautiful.

You know, I'll give the Pixies this much: I wasn't a big fan at first but the more I started listening and giving them a chance I became a convert. Trompe de la Monde is a good album, but I think that's for the diehard Pixies fans to enjoy. I'm just starting to get into them, so from all of what I've heard the best albums are Come on Pilgrim and, of course, Doolittle.
And IMO, "Where is My Mind" is one of their plainest songs ever.

Doolittle and Come On Pilgrim are both amazing. But their most approachable album is, in my opinion, Bossanova.

No way, man. It may have "Dig for Fire" and "Velouria," but it really starts to drag a bit toward the middle/end. Trompe, on the other hand, is solid all the way through.
Though, when it comes down to it, I think Doolittle might make the best starting place. Very versatile album. It's like a grab-bag of awesomeness.
Come On Pilgrim is certainly amazing as well, not to mention extremely consistent (maybe the most-so of their releases), but it's also a glorified EP, only having 8 short-to-medium-length songs.
I'd go with Trompe, Doolittle, or Surfer Rosa personally (in that order of recommendation). Then COP, then Bossanova, and then the B-Sides Collection (which is, admittedly, probably only for serious fans).

I do agree that the second half of Bossanova is pretty bland but, despite not really being a great song, I really love Hangwire. Also, I find Allison to be overrated. Can't see how that song has become a hit for them. Dig for Fire, The Happening, Velouria, and Rock Music are all awesome. I don't think it was a wise choice for Frank Black to completely expel any of Kim Deal's vocal talents though. You need some of Kim on Pixies records DAMMIT!!
