Anyone heard of these guys? The video for Majesty, the first single taken from this album has been getting some attention from the more discerning music channels in the UK. It's a fantastic song that caught my attention from the first time I heard it. I was in my favorite local music store (Avalanche in Glasgow) and I happened to mention it to the guy serving me. He disappeared into the store room at the back of the shop and returned with a promotional copy of their new album, Grit, which he proceeded to sell to me for the bargain price of £5.99. I threw it in my bag and headed for the train home. I then proceeded to forget that i'd bought it for a couple of days...DOH!!! When I finally took the opportunity to listen to it I was instantly blown away. Put simply...if this album had saw release last year it would have been, in my humble opinion, the best album of the year. This is dark, atmospheric stuff full of propulsive, chiming guitars that is sure to appeal to fans of The Tindersticks and latter era Nick Cave. Judging from the sticker on the cover of the sleeve the press have gone apeshit over it with four and five star reviews right across the board from Q Magazine, Logo Magazine, Rock Sound, The Sunday Telegraph and The Evening Standard. This really is the good stuff. The very best stuff. I know that some schmoes will dig this album. I'm talking to you Bowiee. And you BadCoverVersion. And you Romero&Juliet. The rest of you know who you are. Seriously...check it out.

Tracks to check out...

Blood Shot Adult Commitment
Majesty
Seven Seconds Flat

There is NOT a duff track on the album though. Every one a brilliant, shining gem.

I think you would really dig this album. If you have the money just go out and buy it. It's totally consumed me. It's the only thing i've been listening to for over a week now. As the last track ends I just click play and listen to it all over again. I've detected a few other influences scattered throughout the album. A little bit of Velvet Underground clamour. A touch of Mary Chain noise. A bit of Mazzy Star's atmorpheric miserablism. A hint of Sonic Youth's discordance. It's a stunning album. Truly magnificent. And the lyrics veer back and forth from beautiful to ugly from track to track (sometimes more than once during the space of a single song). I fucking love this album. It's only since discovering Madrugada that i've realised that something has been missing from even the best music i've found in the last several years. I've never found a band that i've been obsessed about in the way i've been obsessed in the past by The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Tindersticks, Nick Cave etc. This band have sunk hooks deep into my subconscious and there's no shaking them loose. As good as the album is though I doubt it'll cross over into the mainstream. It's too good for that. Way too good.

These kids are hard to track down.

I started downloading a handful of tunes the other night...but alas, I awoke the next morning to find all but ONE remotely queued.

Anyways, I've been listening to the one tune I did manage to bag, it's named "Hands Up - I Love You" (is that right?) and its fucking brilliant...I really dig it. The blokes voice is just the right side of miserable...and it doesn't half remind me of David Lynch films and deserted roads.

Thanks for the nod Psycho...I'll definitely be downloading some more tunes, and probably buying the album based on just this ONE fab' fucking song alone.

Oh, and it doesn't hurt that he reminds me of my man Jarv' when he croons "Oh do you miss me, baby...when I fall asleep".

:)

Delish'.

Okay, I got Majesty.

He's got a really tender VOCAL, actually pretty soulful...I like it a lot. This is officially on my "to buy" list.

Just wait until you hear Blood Shot Adult Committment...I really want to see these guys live. I downloaded a shitty quality live clip from their official site of them performing BSAC and in spite of the crap picture quality I got the impression that they were a killer live band. Fucking killer. Oh...and on Lucy One they are channeling the same spirits that possessed Iggy And The Stooges way back when.

Dammit,

Grit isn't availble in the u.s. but their earlier albums are. Hmm I think I may place another uk order in a month or two. I'll stick this little guy in my cart when I do.

I just got a shipment of u.k dvd's and I tossed this into the order and so far I'm lapping this cd up. It's right up my alley as far as musical style goes and the lyrics are alot of fun to listen to unravel. I'm about halfway through the disc right now and haven't heard anything less than incredible yet.

Downloaded a couple of tracks, and overall, I like it quite a bit. Like BadCover said, the lead's vocals are really mellow and warming which brings the sound together. I couldn't stop listening to it for an hour.

I will definitely pick up the album if I see it around.
