View Full Version : Your three favorite vocalists...

A thread was recently made that was top metal vocalists, but why keep it to just metal? Which three vocalists are your favorite of all-time?
1. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin; Solo) - This guy has the ability to get super high, and then stay kind of low and mellow. But then he can go right back to those high notes that no one else can hit.
Aheeeeeeeeeeeeeeyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeh!
2. Freddy Mercury (Queen) - Wow. That's all I can really say. This guy has a voice of velvet. He's amazing.
3. John Fogerty (Creedance Cleartwater Revival; Solo) - This may be an odd pick, but I love John Fogerty's voice. It's so different, and so easy to recognize. His voice is an amazing one, and his music really kicks ass.

1. Geoff Tate (Queensryche) - amazing range, amazing vibrato, amazing combination of rock and opera vocals.
2. Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) - he screamed a lot, but when he wasn't screaming he showed he had a very good range, and he twisted his voice into unusual pronunciation at times, which I liked.
3. Janis Joplin - even when she screamed, she screamed perfectly on key. Her voice was gritty, and it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think she had the most emotional female blues voice ever.

Bjork - Her voice just lulls me to sleep and up again and back down again. A beautiful, fragile thing that can really rip deep inside ya at the same time. I LOVE her.
Thom Yorke - Dramatic, deep, emotional, full of highs and lows, love his falsetto, can SING literally anything and can scare the shit out of you at times... which is good! The way his voice has changed over his carrer is quite interesting.
Jeff Mangum - Errrrm... just different. Either love it or hate it, I love it.

Bon Scott (RIP) - AC/DC
Billy Corgan - Smashing Pumpkins
Bono - U2
I also can't help but mention Johnny Cash.
Freddie Mercury is the all time number one vocalist. No one matches his talent. Indeed, a lot of people aren't aware of his vocal range. Just watch their unbelievable Live at Wembley 86' performance and tell me otherwise.
