What do you guys think Tim Burton would've made of Batman forever and Batman and Robin?? Would he have gone with the same scripts and made them as dark as Batman and Batman returns?? I think he was a producer in Batman forever, I'm not sure about Batman and Robin. Do you guys think the franchise was headed in the right direction with Burton as the director, could he have saved the Joel Schumacker debacles, or are you glad it all went down like it did since Nolan's Batman looks to have the goods???? Opinions please :)

i liked burtons films...as for the others, not at all! they are just goofy and nothing dark about them at all. The other two seemed geared for the teenager/kid crowd. Making gotham like a lightsy vegas was the beggining of the end for the other sequels. I always wondered what burton would have done with more batman sequels, guess he wasnt interested in making them though.
I'm not glad it went downhill at all! I think the new batman should help ressurect it, but at the same time, the last two have given the batman series a bad reputation. I am anticipating the new batman movie to bring back the DARK knight

A tear comes to my eye whenever a new development comes about batman 5.
the last 2 batman movies were just awful... although might be quite pleasant when on mind-altering things.

if Burton had done 3-4 they would have been great and probably as dark, if not darker than the first 2 films

The only few things that I know how Burton would've done it are these:
Michael Keaton - Batman
Marlon Waynes - Robin
Robin Williams - Riddler
Billy Dee Williams - Two Face
Renee Russo - Chase Meridian
The only Burtonistic descriptions that have really leaked are that Riddler would have had a Question Mark shaved on his head and that Two Face's scarring would have been gray.

Umm Im not joking...;) He was supposed to appear in Batman Returns, but was cut out instead. They even had a costume fitted for him. When Forever came around, Joel kicked him off but he still got payed.
Hell even the figure of him made it out.... though he was white colored.

I don't think I'm one of the few majority, but I enjoyed Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.
Tim Burton made his first two movies dark, and they were fantastic movies too! [Returns was my fave] While Joel Schumacher just made his two more like James Bond movies.

Batman & Robin was bad but I really liked Batman Forever alot. Infact it's my second fav after the first Batman movie. And I really liked Robin alot too. Chris O'Donnell I thought was very good in it. Unfortunately they seem to turn Robin into some kind of whiny spoiled brat in Batman & Robin, completely ruining his character. But I guess I'm in the minority here in really liking and enjoying Batman Forever.

What would you say in 89 if I said Batman would be a cold blooded killer, Penguin would be a mutant, and Harvey Dent would be Lando......... Thats Tim for you. I speak the Truth.;)

i wonder what it would have been like if Wayans would have been robin in it, he was apparently also going to be Robin in Forever but when Burton dropped out Schumaker replaced him with O'Donnell

I enjoyed Batman Forever, a lot actually...Yes, it wasn't as dark as the first two, but that was the interesting thing...It was something a fresh and it worked...Plus I think for the Riddler and Two-Face, the more comic-book like color splashes really helped bring them to life...as two dimensional as they were...
Batman and Robin, there's nothing you can say for that movie...it was BAD...

honestly Burton would not of made them period..oh wait he didnt, I think if anything he would of made a 3rd movie with the riddler only, and he wouldnt of picked Jim Carey, and Im sure he would of got Keaton to come back a 3rd time as well
oh and to hell with Robin

Micheal J Fox was supposed to be in the role. That was an early rumor back in the 90s. But as for Burton continuing, that would have been a great. It would have saved the franchise. My only gripe about it was, Batman didnt hardly have any good screen time. He would just come in, do some fighting, and kill off the villian. And that was it.

Meh, I liked Jones as two-face and Carrey as Riddler. Though I do think that Robin would've been pretty damn cool.

i agree, carrey and jones did a great job with the characters. it was kilmer and o'donnell who didnt fit in well imo. keaton is the only batman to me.

my faves are batman and batman forever. IMHO val kilmer was the total package, a great batman and an even better bruce wayne. Especially in the circus scene when he fights two-face's goons as bruce. my fave scene in the film.

My take on the Batman franchise and Burton's absence from 3 and 4.
The 1st Batman kicked major ass, as we all know. Keaton as Bats and Wayne? Who would have even imagined that besides Burton. Nicolson as the Joker? C'mon are you fucking kidding me!?!? Absolute genius. I could have done without Basinger, but she was hot shit at the time. It showed the hollywood world how to do a comic book, although it took them a decade to figure it out.
The 2nd Batman was just as good and had Michelle in skintight vinyl. My only problem with it was that either villian, Phifer or Devito, could have done an entire movie on thier own. Giving us now, 3 great Batman movies.
The 3rd Batman. Kilmer? Ok I can get behind that. O'donnel? Well... ok, I 'spose. hey wait whats with all the neon and blacklight? WOO HOO!!! NICOLE KIDMAN!!!!!! But again, either villan, Jones (Billy Dee got SCREWED!!) or Carey, could have carried the movie on thier own.
Schumacher did an OK job, but tha camp was definetly up from the Burton films, and he needed to tone down Jones, as Harvey/2 Face was never that over the top. He seemed like the Riddler form the TV series (Gorshin) leaving Carey to have to completely flip out, again, on a character that was much more of a cerebral villian. They both seemed to be playing the Joker... who Ironically was played the straightest of the three characters.
Batman 4. Ugh... Ok I liked Clooney, but he needed some lessons from Keaton on this character. Uma? Well the character was always kinda second tier until the (awesome) cartoon came out. She did an ok job, but again, these characters didn't completely go batty (pardon my pun) in the comics, but in the movies it just seemed like every actor was just trying to top the last movies villian.
The Governator. I actually liked Ahnold in this role. My big beef was all the corny onliners. Give the man some freakin dialog and maybe we wouldn't always have to make fun of him.
Schumacher, or whoever diredted this garbage, had obviously gone batty (heheh) himself cause the story was preposterous, the sets were silly and the acting needed DIRECTION!!!!
And again.... WHAT'S WITH ALL THE FUCKING NEON AND BLACKLIGHT!!!!! This is Gotham City, not Vegas.
P.S. Why did they feel the need to COMPLETELY waste the Bane character. Why was he even in the movie? Did the just want to fuck it up for whoever wanted to revitalize the franchise?
Well luckily, they are just starting from the Begining.
Ok... So would have Burton done a better job? i don't think so. I think he was done with this franchise and forcing another out of him would have resulted in a movie just as bad as either of the last two... maybe just not as well lit... stoopid neon and blacklight.

I don't think I'm one of the few people out there, but I actually really enjoyed Batman & Robin. I thought it was great entertainment.
The Batman movies are made for action-entertainment, and I enjoyed all 4 of them, and am looking forward to the fifth, as well as Catwoman, even though it has no relevance to the Batman world. A lot of people think Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were the worst movies ever, but I was entertained by them, as I was entertained by the first two.
Now Tim Burton is my favorite movie director, and not because of his Batman's, but because of Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, he made Gotham City dark and violent. It worked, and that's what the fans loved about it. Joel Schumacher, eased down on the darkness of Gotham, and made them more fast-paced like a James Bond movie. Now, the fans seemed to take this as the worst movies ever. But there are lots out there that liked them all.

I think that if Burton were to the third and fourth films they would have been a hell of a lot better. The story for Batman Forever was great and I could really see Burton turning Schumacher's mess into a masterpeice. He made those to movies look like some extreeeeeeeeemely corny saturday morning cartoons.
I think that Marlon Wayans would be cool as a Robin. Val Kilmer was a decent Bruce Wayne, but Chris O' Donnel and Jim Carrey need to get out.
As for Batman and Robin. I think Burton probobly wouldn't have made this film. It has good potential, but Robin's character got too whiney. And we definitely didn't need Batgirl. Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy....(shudder). I thought the only good casting choices in this entire movie was the big guy that played Bane and Arnold Swartznegger as Mr.Freeze (just cut back on all the corny ice jokes) I think that Tim Burton's versions of these villans would have been great, especially Mr.Freeze. But this movie was doomed to begin with. I saw this movie at a drive-in and it was even worse than the movie after it....Father's Day.
I think that the only other good batman movie besides Burton's was that animated one "The Mask of The Phantasm" or something like that. How come nobody ever talks about that movie, it was pretty cool.

There have been more animated Batman movies: Sub-Zero, which was about saving Freeze's wife with Barbara Gordon's blood; Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, which brought back Mark Hammil's Joker in the future, in one of the best action cartoons ever; and the most recent, Mystery of the Batwoman, which I figured out the identity of as soon as the suspects were introduced.
That said, I did enjoy Batman Forever.

If Tim Burton directed the last 2 Batman movies, i think they would have been known as the best comic book movies of all time, for Burton is a visual director and it doesn't hurt that he likes to make his movies sometimes with a dark atmosphere.

Batman Returns is my favorite Batman film as well as my favorite comic book based film. Burton is a directorial genius, and why he has yet to win an Oscar is beyond me.

If burton did direct Batman 3, and 4. They definately would have taken a more darker route than Schumacher did. I think Two Face would have been much more fleshed out than he was in "Forever". Instead of being a practical clone of The Joker, Burton's Two Face would have shown a much more psychological potrayal of a man with dual personalities than what we ultimately ended up with in "Forever".
The Riddler, I assume wouldnt be much different. Except the origin, and the plot (mind box anyone?) would have been dramatically altered I'm sure. A maze scene like in Batman TAS would have definately been in order.
I doubt Burton would have done a Batman 4, as I imagine he would have wanted to leave the franchise as a trilogy, but if he did I doubt we would have seen Poison Ivy. I'm sure we would have seen The Scarecrow, as he was originally in Batman 3, and a much, MUCH darker version of Mr. Freeze.
Bottom line, they would have been great! sniff, sniff
