It's a bit long for this message board, but if anyone fancies reading it over at Mojo's site, check it out:

That was an enjoyable read Scully, and I agree with you in most areas:

* I'm actually looking forward to the Hicks figure but I agree that it would of been better to have characters like Ripley or Bishop instead of Hicks. Sorry to Michael Bein fans but the Bishop figures would probably sell better. Hell, just a thought, how didn't they just put Hicks in the Alien and Predator line McFarlane are bringing out. Having a selection of the creatures and humans would of been great.

* Movie Maniacs 7 is pretty much all Texas '03 which I once again agree....sucks. And I was shocked to read that the staff at Spawn.com actually said: "If you don't like them, don't buy them" comment on the message boards. Not a smart move.

I will admit something though, McFarlane do bring out some good looking detailed figures and they all look awe-inspring. I will give them that much, but since I'm gonna find myself buying the Hicks and Robocop figures I will wait to see what the MM8 line will be like, a chance for McFarlane to redeem himself. Why? Because I'm a generous guy.
But NECA will definitly have a sell from me when I buy the Freddy vs. Jason 2 pack set, thats just somethin you gotta have.

Anyways, enough of my rantings. I'm stealing your spotlight here, Scully :D. The article was a good read and, like I said, I agree with your views.

Gotta love the "If you don't like them, don't buy them" comment. Always nice to see a company who actually comes out and says: "We don't give a damn about our fans, we just want your money."

Fantastic and very entertaining article. I laughed out loud in agreement with some of your allegations and accusations. I couldn't agree more about the steady decline. A little more imagination from McFarlane and a little less blatant and soulless lining of pockets would have rewarded the faithful to a much greater extent. I'd have long since invested in some Neca figures if I actually could afford even a pot to pish in these days.

I’m not a collector yet myself of figures and such but have been drooling for quite awhile over the thought. This article definitely filled me in on a lot of what goes on in the hobby collecting world, that I otherwise (as a newbie) had no clue about. A huge chunk of thanks Scully.

that was a very interesting rant...i used to love mcfarlene figures, problem was i never had enough money to buy them... i have more of the music series than the movie series, cause when i did have the money they were always sold out of the freddies and crows...ets....they pissed me off when they had announced and even had a design for a kid rock figure and then just out of the blue denounced it...why announce it if youre not gonna do it, upon emailing them there reply was only "the idea was cancelled" i loved the aliens queen box set, but was unable to get it...but in my opinion was the only alien minus predator worth having... i was so lucky to get the jaws box set, and it is the crown jewel of my small collection...but anybody that knows me knows the only thing that could have made me happier was an alligator set where the alligator is busting through the street... i did love the movie legend and i was also fortunate enough to get the darkness figure...which is great, cause among freddy, michael and jason and the whole lot...darkness was won of the few that actually scared me.... but now i like u have seen all the terminator and alien and predator figures... and i just cant believe that now thier is a whole line primarily dedicated to tcm remake... oh yeah, and robocop... whoopie!!!! there is a figure just waiting to be made of the ending scene of sleepaway camp where angela is standing there looking all freaky holding pauls head and a knife... there needs to be a sami curr figure, david from the lost boys, a green goblin semi rig box set from maximum overdrive, a big attacking tomato figure... damn we even need a fisherman figure from i know what u did last summer before we needed all these pieces of crap!!!!!

An interesting (yet somewhat critical) column. True, McFarlane has gotten instantly stale for some reason (probably thinking of focussing on the Tortured Souls line instead of this series). Although I did in fact grab Predator from Predator 2 simply because of the mask and the blood, I also bought Evil Ash, which isn't the greatest figure, but considering I had only recently found the Movie Maniacs line (and a credit card), this was one of the few remaining figures from the past editions.

Now that the MM7 lineup has been introduced, I too question Todd's thinking. Why more Alien figures? You not only have an entire edition of them, plus a spin-off coming in summer with slight differences, but jeez, talk about overkill. The same with the Terminator series. I decided on picking up the T-800 with the coffin, since I thought it'd look cool on my desk. Although I am eyeing Hicks, I probably will just pick up the remake of Leatherface and Robocop, then try and focus on NECA's stuff. Sorry Todd, you may be a Canadian badass in the comic industry, but I can't support you on this one if you're not going to listen to the fans.

I have yet to buy any of the Mcfarlane Movie Maniacs series because I kinda fell on the badwagon a little too late and I cant find them nowhere :( and I think theyd be awesome to spruce up my room alot.

Im looking for

*Michael Myers
*Freddy
*Leatherface
*Ghostface

and im buying Djinn from a fellow Schmoe.

This MM series only focuses on Aliens and TCM 03 which I didnt really care about, I mean come on they made a toy for Erin! why not make a toy for the other chick in that movie also. , the only one I think might be worth a buy would be Leatherface TCM 03 due to the fact the guy did a great job as him. Id really like to see Mcfarlane do The Creeper, Willard, Captain Spaulding, Trash from Return of the Living Dead, Suicide from Return of the Living Dead even Bubba Ho-Tep.

Great article, Scully. I agree completely with you on how pish the series has become, when it could have been so great.

By the way, I was amused to read that the Norman Bates Psycho is rare these days... I picked one up in Forbidden Planet in Glasgow some years ago for only two quid and I only bought it complete the first series (I thought that figure was shite).

Excellent column Scully! :)

I agree completely with your sentiment here - I too bought a good number of the early figures (the 18" Myers has pride of place staring at me as I type this :D ), but after series two for me it started to go tits up, and I haven't slung any cash McFarlane's way for a good many months now, and the way things are going won't be doing so any time soon!

Looking forward to working my way through your back issues too!

Keep up the bloody good work! :D

You said its perfectly Scully1888, you truly know what your talking about. I'd point out the statements I agree with but it was the who thing you wrote, and let me state this the people that were bitching about how NECA was a rip off and all their stuff would suck. Well you know what the people that sculpted those perfect hellraiser figures used to work at MCfarlane and sculpted quite a few of peoples favorite maniacs. NECA put McFarlane in his place by going by the good old statement put up or shut up. This was the first I saw of the new movie maniacs and yes that is one shitty list. I have no interest in any of them. Long live NECA.

Sorry guys, the column didn't go up this week - not my fault!

It was a bit longer than usual (about 4000 words) because it covered the Oscars as well, and Mojo simply didn't have the time to format it.

Don't worry, I'll include your quotes in next week's column (next Sunday, late afternoon-ish), so if you have any further comments on the matter let me hear them before then!
