I've heard a lot of people talking about Romero's original idea for Day of the Dead. He said he had to scale it back due to budget restraints and things like that. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the changes that were made for Romero to be able to make the movie? Thanks a lot!

First off, welcome to the boards.

Now . . .
Uh, did you mean Day of the Dead? That's the one Romero couldn't do his 'vision' on because of financial probs (unless he also had trouble with Dawn). But on Day there were supposed to be a lot more above-ground sequences, cages outside that held zombies . . . . hmm . . . well, I'm not a huge fan of the trilogy, so I don't know much about this.

There's plenty of guys/gals around here who could probably walk you through all the unused sketches, scenarios, etc.
Psychodude, for one. I'm sure he'll come in this thread eventually and spill'.

Uh, yeah, your right! Thanks for that. I'm such a dork. I checked over and over that message to make sure everything was right. I guess I didn't do such a good job. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I changed it. :)

You know me well C-Desecration-. Well basically their were more above ground sequences, the had alot more characters, they had special colored vests and radio controlled signals to control the zombies, Rhodes I think was more evil, Miguel died earlier in the original draft, it also featured scenes of zombies watching monitors, it took place on some kind of jungle/island place and the ending was different, I haven't seen the origina script in a while so I can't remember some stuff or be too specific but those were some things different.

You can find Romero's original script for "Day" at

www.homepageofthedead.com

Rhodes was more evil, especially to his soldiers. HE was the one feeding Bub and others his soldiers remains.

Also there was emphasis on an orange/red triangle of sorts that was made into a vest. The shape had been proven successful by making zombies not wanting to come after you while wearing it.

There were many changes in Day that when I read the original script I was really disapointed in the original, Joblo has the script online but if your too lazy to look for it here's the link

Thanks to everyone who posted. It would have been really cool to see the movie how he actually envisioned it...

Those of you who would like to see something with the sort of scope and vision that Romero originally intended should check out the comic The Walking Dead. Obviously a comic book is free from the financial limitations that are imposed in movieland and as a result this comic promises to be a true epic. Already it's one of the best horror comics i've ever read and it's only four issues in.

In an ideal world there would be a zombie trilogy with a Lord Of The Rings size budget, lashings of gore, a killer plot, fully rounded characters that you actually care about and an epic storyline with a downbeat ending (I do love my downbeat endings). Never happen though.

I was actually giving some thought to getting a subscription to The Walking Dead. I'm not even a comic book fan, really, but this sounds like it's very worth my time, me being a huge zombie fanatic....
