For those who have seen THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, the question is simple: What would you rate it?

10/10 for me -- visually stunning, brilliantly-acted, and powerful in its storytelling.

i would be interested to know what the people who put 0/10 thought about it....

whether that was for film making reasons....religious reasons...or personal..

i dont have any personal opinions on the content..just how it rates as a film...

After all the stellar movies to come out this year i find it hard for anyone to call it "the years best".

6/10 for some visual prowess, but ultimately the narrative is rather sparse and there's a lack of context.

Visually it was stunning but some parts made me feel that the movie outstayed it's welcome. I think Mel should have ditched all the flashbacks and focused just on the section in Jesus's life the movie was depicting. Though the one I really enjoyed was *spoilers*********

When mary flashes back to when jesus was a child and skinned his knee and then it flashes back to the present. That was a brilliant scene and totally helped convey the emotions mary was feeling as a mother to the audience.
*end spoilers****

Mostly everyone in the world is familiar with the life story of Jesus. The flashbacks I felt disrupted the flow of the main story that gibson was trying to convey. Which was the fact Jesus suffered to a great extent for humanity.

I still cant grade this film, and voted accordingly.

I gave it a 7, but I'm starting to think that I should have given it an 8. I'm not christian, and I felt that the movie didn't really explain anything to me. It also kind of pisses me off that this movie got an "R" rating. The only reason that it got that rating instead of "nc-17" is because it's about Jesus. Also, the scenes with Jeses marching with the cross was way too long and drawn out. And what the fuck was with all of the slow motion. It was kind of cool at some points, but it really did get repetetive. The score of 7 primarily comes from the great direction and the fucking amazing perofrmance from all of the cast, especially James Caviezel who totally blew me away. This was a good movie.

8/10-Visually stunning and great performances by the actors, the narrative is a bit spotty at times (I didn't care for the flashbacks) though so that brings the film down just a little, still the best film in what has so far been a crappy year.
I think Mel Gibson did a wonderful job handling such a sensitive and controversial subject.

I agree. That was one of my favorite scenes of the whole film, if not my favorite. I think every mother in the audience cried at that point. Simply amazing.

As for the poll, a 10/10.

These helped you care for the characters.

I do not understand why people are saying this. I can list MANY, MANY, MANY movies that were more violent and nobody comlained they should have been NC-17. It is violent, and definetely deserves an R, but to say that it is "gratuitous" violence is ludicrous when we have movies like Kill Bill and Cabin Fever. From everything I had heard about the violence, I was suprised how tame it was. Yes it was violent, but calling it "pornographic" is a ridiculous hyperbole and made me expect I was going to see blood and flesh splattering across the screen and see every single blow of the whips gashing into his skin. This is not the case and I don't agree at all with reviewers who are calling it too violent.

Oh and I gave it a 10/10 btw.

Dude, I can't rate this one.

On the one hand, from a film major point of view, the camera work wasn't spectacular. The design of the film (art, set, etc.) wasn't amazing, and so on...

BUT this movie is so beyond that. I have never felt that way when seeing a film. I was scared and shaking and amazed and comforted and all sorts of emotions that this film brought out in me and that response is beyond any rating that I could have given it.

I don't think that I could see this again, but I'll definitely keep it with me.

if i had to rate this film it would get the perfect 10/10 from me, but like so many have said, this movie is far more then a 10/10 rating. Its an experience that i've never had while watching a film before, i'm speechless, moved, and in wonder after seeing this amazing film.

I'm trying to give a more measured account of my experience with this film. My rating is as so because I'm torn; on one hand, I admired Gibson's direction and the beauty of scenes, but on the other hand, the pieces were better than the film as a whole. There are unfortunate decisions that were made: why did the demon kids remind me of Aphex Twin's music video for "Come to Daddy"? Silly and didn't work.

Taking away all the silly controversy (which Gibson slyly used to his advantage), the story, the subject matter, isn't as compelling as I would have liked. I may have to ponder it some more, but my rating stands as it is.

I'd give it either an 8 or an 8.5 out of 10.

A great movie that falls just short of being a masterpiece for a few minor flaws that kinda irked me. But it is a harrowing, gripping and unforgettable movie. And for a film that a cost a relatively measly 25 million bucks the movie looks FANTASTIC!

Great direction, fantastic performances, and a lot of guts. I don't like what the movie's become (many churches are using it as a recruiting device), and I felt the Romans were over-the-top and cartoony, but it's an undeniably well made film.

I admire Gibson's convictions, his direction, the stunning cinematography, the acting, and the overall look and feel of the film. But, I also felt some things were unnecessary (the demon children were cartoonish, it was like a bad horror movie. Just let Judas hang himself out of guilt/shame like it happens in the source material, also the crow pecking out the heckling crucifixee's eye struck me as too obvious), and breaking from the original story bothered me. Usually when a film takes liberties with its book source it doesn't bother me much, and I'm not a Christian so it didn't offend me, rather it bothered me because I think Gibson was trying, and said he did, to make a fairly literal film account of what happened to Jesus as it is written in the Bible. So any time he strayed, it irked me. As for anti-semitism, I didn't really think it was, it portrayed the rich Jewish high priests as very bad people, but what was the last movie you saw that seemed to be in favor of rich men who have a lot of power? Caiaphas's character did bother me though, not because the depiction was anti-semitic, but rather too one-dimensional for me. Pontius Pilate was given private scenes and a real sense of character, Caiaphas was merely the bad guy and we had to accept it as is. The whipping scene was a bit repetitive, but I understand Gibson was trying to stress the point of how he went through horrible pain and for a long time, that and the crucifixion and beatings were not nearly as violent as I'd expected. The talk of violence like audiences have never seen before was all hyperbole. The acting, for the characters who were given real characters, was exceptional, especially Maia Morgenstern, Jim Cavaziel, and I loved the look and use of the dude who played Satan (him walking through the crowd during crucifixion remind anyone else of the exact same thing happening in Braveheart when Gibson's being tortured?). Overall, a great movie, much more a visceral experience than most films, I had my minor qualms with it but it's a very well-made picture. 8/10, my second favorite movie so far this year (behind the exceptional but unheralded Spartan).

That was a woman playing Satan, actually. I think Gibson wanted Satan to be kind of "unisex", hence the woman's body and the man's voice (sort of).

I thought it was an oddly beautiful (obviously FAR from the conventional sense) Satan, that explains it.

I admired Gibson's determination in getting the film made.

As a relatively relgious person who grew up in a very religious household, I found the film to be distracting. The visual presence on film of the devil, the devil children, were laughable inclusions. Sure, it is metaphorical or what have you, but it didnt work for me.

I also found the depiction of the the passion to be so violent that it became no different than Kill Bill...a cartoon.

Yes Jesus was beat to a pulp and far worse probably than Gibson could have ever shown, but I didnt need to see 1% of what Gibson gave us un order to understand Jesus' sacrifice.

The violence and gore wnet from unbearable to bearable over the course of the film and left me shaking my head.

The crucifixion scene was brutal, horrific to witness.....I havent bawled like that in a movie since ET when I was a kid....

I found Gibson's direction and the cinematography disappointing to say the least and nothing special.

Its not a bad film, just one that I didn't like and had major problems with it.

More bah's than kudos to this film.....

Brilliant performances, looked beautiful and definitely powerful, unforgettable and moving. However, I'm one of those people who thinks that there should've been MORE flashbacks to show the relationships Jesus had with people and how he changed their lives. But that's just me.

I'm changing my rating fro No Rating to 7/10. The emotion that came with the movie was more a result of personal experience than what the film did. It was a fine film, and its good to see a whole bunch of non-filmgoers see a film, but the film did have a couple of flaws in it. The best scenes in the film all revolved around Mary's flashbacks - those were the ones that really kind of hit home with the audience.
