In the Name of the Father was a brilliant movie, and another Daniel Day-Lewis film The Boxer was also quite good.

Gangs of New York, The Quiet Man, The Crying Game, and In The Name of The Father are my favorites that come to mind.

While not necesarily horrible, The Devil's Own struck me as pretty lame.

Gangs of New York
In America
The War of the Buttons

Are just a few of my favorites

Best - I really liked Monument Ave. I thought Denis Leary was surprisingly good playing it straight.

Devils Own is the worst by a mile. You know as I'm a reasonably proud brit, I think this film was trying to offend me but it was hindered by the fact it was laughably awful. In fact I think if it had of offended me that would have been a start. But it didn't.

Boondock Saints?

Nice Marmot

Darby O'Gill & the Little People. The Banshee used to scare me good as a kid!

I must admit, Circle of Friends is a guilty pleasure of mine. Why do I hate most American "chick flicks" but not European ones?

I completely agree with this gentleman. The Boondock Saints is one of my favourite movies from a pure entertainment value perspective.

In The Name Of The Father and Gangs Of New York are great. Lets not forget The Commitments?

The Devils Own and Far & Away make me feel ashamed to be half Irish! :)

My favorite movie of all time was and is The Quiet Man.

I also felt that The Field captured things about Ireland and the Irish that other Irish films missed.

The Magdalene Sisters was astonishing.

Nobody else liked it but as a first generation Irish (half, my dad is Indian) American I found Matchmaker hysterical.

In America was lovely.

Secret of Roan Innish was great for kids.

I liked The Commitments but liked the sound track better than the movie.

My Left Foot-- classic.

Bloody Sunday-- amazing documentary.

I don't consider Gangs of New York Irish.

Hehe, I've never seen "IYO" before. Anyways...

In my opinion, this is one of the messiest films I've ever seen, just horrible. Why? It has possibly the worst directing I've ever seen, and a bad screenplay to boot. The director is totally incompetent, and this is the reason I hated the movie so much. He goes to great lengths to make "cool" and "sweeping" shots when a simple shot would easily suffice (The confession scene, for one). The acting is also horrible all around, even DaFoe, who was widely praised for his role. I don't get how performances that go over the top are often hailed as being "great". Beh...
