I was just wondering how, but i usually dont do it anymore:D , when people watched a horror movie and feel that something scary is about to happen, how they would try not get scared {if you didnt want to get scared, that is, cause many people probably always want to get scared.}

For Example.....

-When i was little, the way i tried not to get scared was to cover my ears. That way, wen something scary is about to happen, i would see whats going on and not hear the blaring music to freak me out.

What did you do?

GREAT topic.

What I still do is . . . (don't ask) hold my breath! I hold my breath as much as I can until it happens. And believe it or not, it works. :)

i just tense up and wait for it to happen because i know its going to.....but this usualy has the oposite of the disired effect.......it ends up maken me more apt to jump for some reason, but for some other reason i always do it no matter what........and it only works maybe 12% of the time.:confused:

Eh.....sad to say, i got scared of the pop-up in Freddy VS Jason. You guys should know what I'm talking about, the scene in the rain (after she leaves the house). I try listening for the music, you know THAT music. The kind of music that sends shivers down your spin. When that happens, you know a pop-up is about to come. (Or when it gets quiet.)

Look at me, it is my birthday, shower me with free stuff schmoes. I take presents and cash, but if you don't give me anything, I'll kick your ass!

When I sense that something scary is about to happen, I usually cover my mouth, so I can't shriek or freak out. Of course, you see someone, maybe a character in an accidental "fake scare" or a ghost, and I still end up freak out. And, I may laugh at myself over it! It is fun to be scared! I seldom get that feeling:( nowadays. the last time though, was "Gothika," which I thought was pretty scary at times and also underrated.

i just tense up and expect it, but it still gets me half of the time. Dead End got me TWICE today =(

It's always the music that makes scenes more scary. You know when someones gonna jump out cuz the music builds up to it, and when they do jump out the entire orchestra has a seizure!!! It's the sound that makes you jump as much as anything, but after you've watched enough horror films you get used to it. Unless they use the music to throw you off!!!! How cool would that be????

When I was little I would sit and wait for the music. Once the music started I would hide my eyes in the couch and cover my ears. This way I wouldn't see or hear anything. (No, I don't do that anymore. :p )

Now, when I know someone's about to get killed or some gorey stuff is about to happen I tense up and bite my nails. (trying to break that habit).

I usually don't try to avoid jumpy parts because I will most likely miss something. So I just watch it and if a scary part happens I sometimes let out a "Holy Shit!"

Rather humiliating at times. :D

I have long hair, so I'll start playing with it and looking for split ends while keeping the movie in my peripheral vision. For some reason if I'm not looking directly at the movie, the jump scares don't effect me. When I had short hair, I'd use my fingernails and cuticles as a distraction.

LMAO!!! I love that. I do the same thing. God bless split ends. But ya gotta admit, it has become so predictable when a "BOO" moment is about to happen now. My Christ they do not even attempt to create build up. It's now like hearing the music cue for the Oscars when someone's acceptance speech has gone on too long. You can just hear the "aaaaaand CUT!"
