Great year for movies, 2 of my all time favorites were nominated for Best Picture which never happens (Pulp and Shawshank, ironically neither of which won.)
Which movie did you have your heart set on winning that year?
This was a tough choice for me, but I went with Pulp Fiction.
Pulp Fiction- 10/10
Shawshank Redemption- 10/10
Quiz Show- 8.5/10
Four Weddings & A Funeral- 7.5/10
Forrest Gump- 6/10

PULP FICTION
I liked Forrest Gump. I haven't seen Quiz Show. Shawshank Redemption was okay, but way overrated. And Four Weddings and a Funeral was a piece of crap.

Forrest Gump, which may be the best film of the decade.
But Pulp Fiction is my favorite film, but Forrest Gump just deserved to win more.

Pulp Fiction is my #4 of all time.
Shawshank is also amazing.
Forrest Gump is good, but I need to rewatch it.
4 Weddings is very average.
Quiz Show is long and boring.

I wasn't rooting for any of the movies back then (I didn't see them all until a few years later) but the one I like the most out of the three is Forrest Gump. It used to be Pulp Fiction, but I can't root for a movie where 1/3 of the movie bores me to tears

1. The Shawshank Redemption - Fantastic
2. Pulp Fiction - Unique, and also great. Best dialogue in a movie, ever.
3. Forrest Gump - Also really good
4. Four Weddings and a Funeral - Not to memorable for me
5. Quiz Show - Too long and too full of itself. This ranks right up there as most overrated for me, along with Gladiator and The English Patient.

Pulp Fiction is an amazing film. Much more than just 'cool' and 'hip', but it's portrayal of the most coincidential, every day life happenings (conversations, certain people's actions) is simply extraodinary. 10/10 (definitely the one I was rooting for)
The Shawshank Redemption is also in my top 100 of all time. Engaging and powerful. 10/10
I need to re-watch Quiz Show, don't remember much from it.
Forrest Gump and Four Weddings and a Funeral are crap.
I thought these movies deserved more recognition as well:
To Live - 9.5/10
Eat Drink Man Woman - 9.5/10
Fresh - 9/10
Ed Wood - 9/10
Three Colors Trilogy - 8.5/10 to 9/10
Bullets Over Broadway - 8.5/10

The Shawshank Redemption or Pulp Fiction! Both vastly superior to the winner Forrest Gump and now 10 years later more revered and remembered than Forrest Gump.
FG is a very good film, don't get me wrong, in fact all 5 are good/great films.
1. The Shawshank Redemption-10/10
2. Pulp Fiction-10/10
3. Forrest Gump-9/10
4. Quiz Show-9/10
5. Four Weddings and a Funeral-8/10

Forrest Gump. At the time of the Oscars, it was the only one I had seen. I liked it.
Now it would be a tough call between Pulp Fiction and Shawshank

The Shawshank Redemption
It's leagues above Pulp Fiction.

pulp fiction had the biggest impact on cinema, and the tolerence for violence in cinema, the rest are basically forgotten, by many...

Though I don't have The Shawshank Redemption in my top 10 (Pulp Fiction is the 4th), it is the best of the 5.

All great movies (though I haven't seen Quiz Show), the only one I didn't rate 10/10 was Four Weddings and a Funeral (snuck in with a 9/10). The Academy did a great job that year, the three 10/10's (Shawshank, Fiction and Gump) are some of my favourite movies.
But I really wish The Shawshank Redemption had won. It's my 2nd favourite movie EVER...it definitely deserved it that year, over everything else.
1994 was one of the best years for movies ever!

I wanted Forrest Gump to win and it did.
Shawshank is an excellent film. Four Weddings was boring.
I've never seen Quiz Show and Pulp Fiction didn't impress me (No flames, please).

I wasn't interested in movies then, but in retrospective I would have to choose Pulp Fiction.

Forrest Gump. I wasn't watching the Oscars when I was ten, but that's what I would have been rooting for. Shawshank is the runner-up.

Bullshit. Shawshank and Forrest Gump are indefinatley more popular with the general public than Pulp Fiction.

I am inclined to agree. I think Pulp Fiction is hugely popular with a more limited group of people than the other 2 movies. The others are more accessible to pretty much any group of people. Pulp Fiction probably jumpstarted more movies of its kind to be made.

Shawshank
with pulp fiction close behind
Of the films listed above, I like THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION the best. I hate the fact that the academy was so one-sided for FORREST GUMP. I think it was completely unbelievable. I'm just not thrilled with a "hometown idiot makes good" story. It wasn't bad, but I'm just sick of it. I'm also tired of hearing how great PULP FICTION was/is. It wasn't a masterpiece. It wasn't terrible, but it isn't this great Oscar-worthy film either.
