I don't post in this forum very often, but I would just like to express my thoughts to you all about my new music "discovery". Last week, it was around 5:00 in the morning, and I was surfing through the television channels even though I was half-asleep. Then, all of a sudden, I stumbled upon this enchanting song on MTV which just rocked my world - it was a song called "Maps" by a rock band I had never heard of called the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. When I was listening to the song, I awoke from my slumber, and I just couldn't believe the beauty of this song I was hearing.
After the song was over, I told myself that I was going to buy their album tomorrow as soon as possible - and I did. I bought the album at BestBuy for a dirt cheap price of $9.99. As soon as I got home, I popped it into my CD drive in my computer, and I just started to listen to "Maps" over and over again. This is just a beautiful and magical song. It does not have a lot of lyrics, but that does not take away from the song's beauty.
Anyway, I have listened to the rest of the album, and I would say the Yeah Yeah Yeahs share the most similarities with The White Stripes. The album itself is quite a solid debut, but it isn't a mind-blowing one. However, the band still rocks and some serious potential. The vocalist of the band, Karen O, has an incredible voice. Her voice has so much range - it shifts from high-pitch screams to raw emotion to soft-spoken beauty.
The album is really worth purchasing just for the final 3 tracks including "Maps", which are all pretty damn good, and show that this band has a lot of potential. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a band I will be keeping my eye out for a sophomore album. If the last 3 songs are some kind of an indication, then this band will have a promising future ahead.
You'll have to excuse all this long-winded jabber I'm writing, but I just had to say something about the band. And now, this finally leads me to my question for you all: has anyone hear heard of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, listen to "Maps", or purchased their debut album? I hope I'm not the only one...... ;)
PS: As I was writing this, I was listening to "Maps", and I'll continue to listen to the song until I get tired of it! :D
