To Kill a Mockingbird and Stand By Me are two fabulous films about childohod, but I know there are many others. The innocense of childhood is always a fascinating topic for me, and I wonder if any of you have any film to reccomend.

To Kill a Mockingbird, Stand By Me, Thirteen, and for somewhat older people, A Long Day's Journey into Night. Yep. Any reccomendations.

The Man In The Moon, an early 1990's coming of age drama starring Reese WItherspoon in her film debut I believe......a "gem" of a film!

Another great one, which just happens to be one of the 1990's Best , Eve's Bayou. A great coming of age drama set in Lousiana.

Well I grew up on "Empire of the Sun" and it without a doubt has the finest performance by then child actor Christian Bale. Totally genuine portrayal of a boy's loss of innocence and survival during the Japanese invasion. Coming from my then chid's P.O.V. I totally believed everything he was going through and tried to imagine myself in the same situation.

"Whatever" does a pretty good job of capturing the sad reality of teenage life. Its not as frenetic as Thirteen, but shares a sort of blunt reality with it. There's a great scene with a bunch of teens at a party, sitting on a stoop in a backyard and drinking beers. It looks nothing like a party, just a couple of under age kids drinking beer and looking none too excited or out of control. They just sit there bored and drinking. Makes a stark contrast to say... the wild post-graduation party in Can't Hardly Wait.

Although adolescence and rites of passage are not the main themes of 'La Haine,' I still think it accurately and often amusingly depicts teenaged behaviour. In between the violent and extreme scenes, there are several incidences (main one that springs to mind is eating hotdogs on the roof) that show a casual, nonchalant and very natural side to teenage life. Unfortunately, the film also shows the downside of youth rebellion.

'Stand By Me' will always be a classic youth movie. I first saw it when I was about 8, but when I rewatched it at the age of 14 it had so much more relevance.

I have a real soft spot for flicks featuring little folks as the CENTRAL characters.

Now & Then deals with adolescence, although it's not that fantastic or anything.
