Alright, well after a second viewing, I feel completely different than after my first. I hated the first time around (4/10, tops) but now, after doing a bit of reading and watching some of the features, I can really see that this is a good movie. The non-linear storyline, which isn't quite evident at first, is used well here and I really liked the way it jumped around. Roeg also knew exactly what he wanted from each scene ala Kubrick. The first time around, I hated the sex scenes which seemed to be thrown in there just for the hell of it, but they didn't bother me nearly as much as before. I don't know...I want to watch it again, to catch whatever I missed...really, an interesting flick. Thoughts?

i heard so many good things about this, i was very disappointed, bad story, shit end, if they'd cut 20 fucking minutes off of it that werent needed, it may have ended up better

2/10

I guess I'm biased but I like this little ditty. Roeg has this unique style of slowly unveiling his movies that I've really grown to like about his films.

I love this film. It is an excellent allegory about American culture, capitalism, and science fiction. Bowie makes an excellent choice for the role, and fits his Ziggy Stardust persona. The film is non-linear and takes several viewings to take it all in, and it was WAY ahead of its time with its use of time structure, like Memento and Mulholland Drive. It was the first film I had to really pay attention to watch (i was 8 when i first watched it), but after 4 or so viewings, i can finally enjoy the film for what it is.

(10/10)

I love it...Roeg is the master.

Everything gels just riiiiiight. Bowie's inspired performance; the best of his career IMO, the irregular structure, startling imagery...and an intriguing storyline.

Performance and Don't Look Now are my favourite Roeg films (the man is incredibly undervalued), but TMWFTE isn't far behind.
