Yup. After a pathetic run in the theatres, Club Dread is coming to DVD, loaded with commentaries (1 by Jay and Erik; the other with Kevin, Paul and Steve) and some other stuff that will be mentioned sooner or later, preferably sooner but oh well. So mark your calendars kids, because the 25th of May is when I'll be dishing out however much it takes to own it. Good day.

And the flick itself, I thought, was great. I was very sad when I found out the box office numbers for the whole two weeks it was on the big screen, they were definitely below expectations, but I think that the DVD will be very successful and it'll make up for the cash lost from other resources. It's all Fox Searchlight's fault!

here is the excerpt from the site:

DVD
The DVD is coming out on May 25th. Erik and I did a commentary and those other three stiffs did one too. West Side. It's coming out the same day as Lord of the Rings. That's inside shit, so it could change. Sorry some of you missed it in the theater. I have things to say about the release which I won't.

I think Fox Searchlight shouldnt be in charge of releasing Broken Lizard films... BL films are hilarious.. and fox searchlight isnt exactly famous for releasing their drop dead comedies!!

I SO can't wait for this DVD. I thought it was 100% better than their previous effort (and I thought Super Troopers was funny at times). Will be picking this up for sure.

I'll probably pick this up. I just can't help but love those wacky Broken Lizard guys and their various shenanigans-

Oops.

I'll shut up before I get pistol-whipped.

Holy shit! That cover sucks ass! What the hell? Who's that chick? She's not even in the movie! What's going on? I'm a little saddened now. Why couldn't the cover be the poster or something better? Why are they doing this to me?? WHY?!?!?

syxxpac

Yeah, I think they should've went with something like the theatrical poster. That was much better.

Ahem...BUMP!

But not just any bump. Oh no. That was an official countdown bump. That's right, in approximately 11 or so days, Club Dread comes out on DVD! Woohoo! And I haven't seen it since its looooooooooooong theatrical run so I'm uber-excited! Still don't know much about the special features though...I'm assuming there'll be some deleted scenes and whatnot, but I guess we'll all find out in 11 days! Yippee!

REEEEEEALLY wanted to see it in theatres.

I just know it would have been much better if it was a 14a in Canada. We're just so underrated in our effect on small movies.:D

Will be renting first, then most likely picking up.

Jess
05-16-2004, 01:29 PM
Dude, you should just pick it up! It's gonna be awesome...in 9 days, though. That's far too long to wait.

I wish I worked at a video store or something so that way I could get it earlier and then come on here and brag about it, but alas, I cannot. 9 days!!!

Jess
05-17-2004, 01:08 PM
Today is my daily bump. I hope people buy CD or at least give it a rent and then buy it or rent it and bring it back to Blockbuster or not rent it at all and make cookies from scratch.

8 days...

I agree with what most have said. That was damn fast. I didn't even hear about it being in theatres in my area. I'll be renting this one. I loved Super Troopers. Funny as all hell...

Shenanigans! Favorite part of the film. :)

Jess

"You mean shenanigans?" Gotta love that part.

Anyhoo...

6 DAYS!

Jess

From 6 days to 1 day. Tomorrow will be glorious. Yes, yes it will. Till then! Prepare yourselves! It's unfortunate, however, because I don't have enough money to buy it, but, alas, here comes my dad to the rescue!

Glad I only rented this, thought most was poop. There were a few funny jokes, and it was great how the 'bad guy' kept popping out thirty times, but overall i didn't see the point of this movie.

5/10, a stinker.

I hate Broken Lizard films.... And Super Troopers was a bit better.

Jess
05-25-2004, 11:11 PM
Whatever. I'm pretty disappointed that there aren't any special features, what's up with that? They could have at least spared some deleted scenes or maybe Fox Searchlight is very much against putting any effort whatsoever into this flick. Fuck you Fox Searchlight! You fucking suck!

Still a great movie, though.

I'm going to be renting this tommarow....are the special features really THAT bad?

Jess
05-26-2004, 11:18 PM
Dude...there are NONE. There's only the option to listen to 2 commentaries or watch a TV spot. It's pathetic. Not even a single deleted scene or gag reel or nothing! Nothing! It sickens me!

Well I finally picked this up yesterday- they didn't have it at Costco, they didn't have it at my closest Best Buy, I finally found it at Target. Anyway yeah, lack of extras suck but the commentaries are great. I'm a commentary nerd so I can't say anything sucks if it has 2 entertaining commentaries on it.

NO features, but this film gets a 8/10 anyway. It was hillarious, but not as good as Super Troopers of course. I think that's why a lot of people disliked it, they thought of it as a sequel to Super Troopers. I actually heard a group of people at the theater talking say "Yeah, were going to Super Troopers 2, there on a beach or something this time. I hope they make Bill Paxton the new cheif." Idiots

I just saw this for the second time and i change my original rating (5.5/10) to a 6/10.

Laughed and enjoyed it more second time around. I find that with Broken Lizard movies once you watch them more and more, they get better and better.

DVD issues

Hey guys,
I've seen some chatter on the blog about the dvd, the lack of extra features, the Special Edition, and something about an alternate ending. So let me clear up a few things....
-Fox told us that they were planning on releasing 2 dvds: a theatrical cut, and then, in the fall, a Special Edition, which would include all the extra features most of us have come to expect in a dvd, plus most of the scenes that we had to cut from the theatrical version. To us, this sounded like kind of a racket. But alas, we have no control over these things. They actually were planning on releasing the theatrical version without the commentary tracks. (this tells you a little bit about the people we're dealing with) We were able to throw enough of a shit-fit to get them to squeeze the commentary on, but as far the 2 versions, they're trying to make more money, and there's no way to argue a movie studio out of trying to make more money. (and trust me, it's income we don't see a dime of)
There is no alternate ending. Super Troopers had an alternate ending. Maybe that's what's confusing people.
So I would say, if you feel like buying both, good for you. If you want to buy one of them, good for you. If you want to buy neither, good for you. Just don't think that Broken Lizards are trying to rip you off. We would just as soon pluck out our own testicles with ice tongs.

Great. Now I gotta go send more money. I wish I were made of money so that way, I could pull off my finger and that'd be it, but it's not that simple. At least I got time to save up...

I'm in the minority here... I hated Super Troopers and this movie didn't look to be any better. I completely don't get the hype surrounding Super Troopers.

From the posts/reviews here for Club Dread - sound's like the funniest part is the people who paid for this featureless DVD. :(
