The 3rd 'un is the best

Can anyone think of a horror series or trilogy where the 3rd film is the BEST (in your opinion) in the series? Often, the original film is better than any sequels, but the 3rd film in particular frequently seems to be regarded as the dodgiest one (for instance, Halloween 3, Day of the Dead, Candyman 3 etc). So this means I'm looking for examples where you like the 3rd one even more than the original - not just the best sequel.

Personally I'd say Return of the Living Dead III.

Elm Street 3 and ROTLD 3 are both films I rate slightly above the originals, not by much though. Friday the 13th part 3 was the most important episode as it introduced the hockey mask, but it's not as good as part 6.

I think I like Hellraiser 3 more than the rest of the series, even if it did go over the top...

The only 2 that pop up to me are Friday The 13th part 3 (which is a great film but I don't think is the best in the series) and Nightmare On Elm Street 3 which I think is just as good as NOES.

I haven't seen TCM 3 or ROTLD 3 or Day Of The Dead

Return of the Living Dead 3 was OK, but i can not believe so many saying its the best in the series. The first KICKED ASS

Anyways, Friday the 13th 3 is definately my choice.
The first where Jason has the hockey mask and machete, a badass ending, and was originally in 3-D.

Man, you are going to hell just for saying that...well IMO hellraiser 3 was the worst one. Once I saw cd's being thrown into people's head and that dude with the video camera in his head, thats where I draw the line and turned it off. Parts 1 and 2 were so demented and part 3 just seemed like a joke.

Good call, I love that film... I didn't like it as much has the original, but it still absolutely kicked ass. Loved the subtle parallels to the first film and the complete lack of mention of part two, which was, of course, dreadful. Brilliant, eerie stuff.

Otherwise, I can't think of any that haven't been mentioned.
