I know Mel Gibson originally wanted to release "The Passion of the Christ" without subtitles, but his distributor made him add them in. Will viewers be able to view the film without any subtitles on the DVD version?

I'm sure they would include that as an option.

Every DVD I have in a foreign language has the subtitles on/off feature, so I don't know why this would be any different.

Not having the subtitles would add a whole different feel to the movie, and i wish they would re-release it in theaters like that, but as long as the dvd has the option im cool.
