Hey Ladies and gents. looking on the "What the latest DVD you picked up (every one)?" thread and looking at some of the dvd. I was just wondering who out buys more blind buys or are the DVD you really like? Very rarely do I buy a blind buy. Just wondering.

I blind buy all the time. It's not really a big deal because going to the theatre these days is about 8 dollars per person and I dont go to the theatre much I just wait for movies to be released on DVD. When DVDs first come out then are on sale for about 15.99, 16.99 and so on. My family and friends usually watch and borrow my dvds so I buy them and make good use of each one.

I rarely blind buy anymore due to one time when I blind bought a movie that wound up being one of the worst "films" I've ever seen (xXx, in case you were wondering). Now, I usually make it a rule to rent the movie before I buy it.

I've got too many to list. I rarely get to the theater anymore. There have been some duds, but oh well. Most of my blind buys are used.

I blind bought The Last Boyscout and The Hunted.

Boyscout turned out to be a great action movie, so I was pleased.

The Hunted was part of a 3 used DVDs for 40 bucks deal. I got Catch Me If You Can and 28 Days Later also. There weren't any other movies in the rack that looked good, so I went with Hunted.

It turned out to be alright...I think I may sell it soon, though.

Over 2/3 of the movies I own were blind buys. It may seem a tad pathetic, but there's a satisfaction, a thrill when seeing a movie you've never seen before after you've plunked down $20 on a hunch

Day of the dead(my now all time favorite movie)
I hope to not break this streak.

I blind buy all the time. I'm generally pretty good at predicting what I'll like and what I won't, so I don't really feel a risk. (Not to mention I work where I'm allowed to return them if I've watched them and hated them... so it's really risk free for me.)

Right now I own probably somewhere between 320 and 350 DVD's, and I would guess that about 130 of them were blind buys.

I've only ever been really disappointed by two.

Last House on the Left (bought it while I was on vacation in the States, so when I watched it up arriving home, I wasn't able to return it. Although I did manage to get it at only about 10 or 11 bucks) and Men In Black II, which I actually bought more for my parents than I did myself.

I've cut back on buying all together lately though... with DVD's dropping dramatically in price five or six months after they're released, I can no longer justify a blind buy for 25 bucks, when in six months I can get it for 13 or 14.

YES! as long as you know roughly the type of movie it is, (a popcorn adventure-comedy film) and you don't expect a majorly well thought out plot etc, you'll enjoy it. In fact, I went to see this in theatres and was extremely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Considering last year was not that great for my type of films (the twisty mind-screwing genre), this was actually one of my favorite films of last year - and rarely do I enjoy pure "fun" movies so much. Most of it is due to The Rock's charisma - this guy is THE definitive action star I'm tellin ya. and it's hilarious thanks to Seann William Scott and with a great villain played by the ultimate actor at playing villains, Christopher Walken.

8/10

ETA:
oh i almost forgot to add what I blind bought lol. Only four things, ever so far:

-Amelie 2 Disc (which I have now traded away...it looked like my type of film but I didnt' enjoy it anywhere near as much as I hoped to)
-Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2 Disc (which I vaguely, vaguely remembered from my childhood, so i picked it up. good choice, a great comedy)
-24 Season One 6 disc (the biggest blind buy I've made so far...I had never seen the series, barely knew anything about it except that my cousin had seen one episode and was stunned by it and that it went over the course of one day. that was the best choice I ever made. 24 is my favorite series along with Carnivale, Naruto and Alias).
-and last but not least, Fight Club 2 Disc (i actually never meant to blind buy this. i had always meant to rent it and finally my friend and i went to Rogers Video one day and were going to rent it but it was out...and since we wanted to see it desperately at the time, I decided to blind buy it cuz the guy that was helping us look for it was like, it's an amazing movie. so i got it. and I am SOO glad i did. If i had more room on theleft hand side, I would've put it into my favorites there. It's #4 of my favorites underneath the ones on the left.)

Wasn't dissapointed one bit. Classic comedy!

Plunk down 20 bucks on a hunch? Try 85. I've spent way too much money on blind buys. Luckily I'm easy to please so it's not too bad. I started counting the blind buys I've made and stopped at 150. This includes: Band of Brothers R3 LE, Alive R2 LE, Azumi R2 LE, Versus R1 SE (yes I loved Kitamura), Kill Bill R2 LE, Moon Child R2 LE, Returner R2 LE, Red Shadow R2 SE. These are just some of the more expensive sets I've bought. The most I've spent is probably 85 for the Alive, Moon Child and Band of Brothers sets.

I just don't have time to go out and rent a movie, watch it and bring it back. I just buy them and watch them when I have time.

Punch Drunk Love... blind buy worthy?

I actually blind buy a lot. Especially for movies that I wanted to see in the theater but missed them. This week I got 2 blind buys: The Rundown and Gothika. I watched The Rundown Tuesday and I actually thought it was pretty good. Action-packed with a mix of comedy. Last night I watched Gothika and I thought it was a pretty good movie too. Halle did a fantastic job! I love her! Both movies were pretty good blind buys in my opinion. I actually think it's cheaper in the long run if you blind buy rather than see the movies in the theater. First of all, movies here cost $7.50. If you add food and drink it's a hell lot more! Plus if you like the movie you're spending even more if you want them on dvd. I bought both movies for $30. Not bad in my opinion.

Man you are lucky. Movies here are close to $9 a ticket. You guy make a good point. If you go to the moives it will cost you more then if you were to buy it on DVD and then if you don't even like the movie then you are out even more $$$ where is if you buy it on DVD you can sell it and get some money back. Cool. I might have to rethink my blind buying. Or rent it on Netflix first. :):D

I just blind bought STRANGERS WITH CANDY Season 1. That shit is hilarious. Some of the most poitically incorrect stuff I've ever seen.

Guy 1: "Why don't we listen to him?!?!"

Guy 2: "Him who?"

Guy 1: "Him me."

You have to see it to understand. It's some funny shit.

I loved the film, but it's a little surreal and not your typical fare. If you dug the other PT Anderson flicks I'm sure you'll find something to like.

As far as blind buy's go...I've got the syndrome as well. I just dropped about 300 dollars at Deep Discount all on movies I had never seen. Like Scarface said, there's a thrill to not knowing what you are gonna get, and the more you have invested, the higher the risk and the more enjoyable the film can be. I hate renting movies, because I need to be in the right mood. With blind buys, I probably have about 30 movies in my collection I've never seen, so I can watch them when I find it convenient.
