CLERKS is above all the funniest, but in overall quality terms, CHASING AMY is the top choice. Of course, none of us have yet seen JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, so it's sort of a subjective question right now.

Good post! I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan. Without a doubt my fave is Chasing Amy, and for lots of reasons. Mainly because this movie is very "today." It seemed to me like all the romance movies from the 90's are either teen-bopper flicks or thirty-something Julia Roberts barf-fests. Chasing Amy is truly an original coming of age(adulthood) Generation X, twentysomething movie. And like Jason Lee's charcter yeah we guys still play video games (for me its EA SPORTS NHL 2001 for the Sony playstation), like Affleck and Lee most of us twentysomethings are new in our careers, we all still have a Jay and Silent Bob, our friends who still live at home, freinds who we can still smoke a dube with or throw a few cold ones back from time to time. And its at this point in our lives that we try to shed our adolescent skin and evolve into responsible adults (god I can't believe I just wrote that.) I'm going off on a tangent -apologies -
Bottomline is Chasing Amy is my fave because I can relate on many different levels, and one of the granduer points of the movie that I can relate to that I think Kevin Smith was really trying to convey is that there are many areas in life where we must mature, and one of the toughest is in the area of Love and Relationships. **spoilers** Unfortunately Ben Afflecks character Holden was too nieve in this area too make his relationship work with Alyssa. He was so caught up on her past that it blinded him to who she was Now. It was very sad to see that their Love and commitment to each other were so genuine and true yet regardless they were on two different pages. I think Kevin Smith wrote it best when after Holden proposed a threesome as a way of him getting up to her experience level and therefore being on the same acceptance level, Alyssa turns to him tearfully and says she wouldn't dare share him with anyone. (god-damn we dudes can be dumb when it comes to matters of the heart.)
I also applaud Kevin Smith for the ending of this movie. **spoilers** It takes a great writer to create a romance screenplay where the two love interests who are meant to be Do Not end up together (and live happily ever after) and yet the movie still ends on a very positive note.
This is by far Afflecks most genuine work, Jason Lee is perfect as his "role" character, Joey Lauren Adams is spectacular, and Jay and Silent Bobs cameo in the end is the plumpest, reddest, sweetest cherry atop the most finely written and directed comedy of the nineteen nineties.

Chasing Amy is my fave because its the most original love story I've ever scene and most relatable to me personally and in a close second comes all Kevins other movies.

Very solid review, Bud. I identified a lot with Chasing Amy because it is a situation we've all been through: you want what you can't possibly have, and when you have it, you can't possibly keep it. Story of my life.

Damn, this is pretty tough to rate Kevin Smith's flic's because they're all kick ass. But if i had to here's what route i'd take:

4.Dogma(Very brilliant and creative along w/ good acting. It's #4 right now but later on in life it could change)

3.Chasing Amy(Another very good film by a very good director. I wish Jay and Silent Bob were in it a little more, but i can't complain b/c it was a great movie)

2.Mallrats(Jason Lee was the best in this and Jay and Silent Bob were classic too. The gameshow ending was funny as Hell and Ben Affleck played a good prick)

1.Clerks(It was the first and in my opinion the best. Just so many funny parts and it's realistic also the way the customers act and the bullshit that clerks have to deal with. I wish Smith would bring Olaf the Russian cousin back in a movie b/c he was HILARIOUS.

Can't wait for Strikes Back. I will see it the day it comes out.
