View Full Version : DON'T LET YOUR KIDS SEE HARRY POTTER! IT'S EVIL!
Go here
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/christianperspectiveonmovies and read what this guy has to say about Harry Potter. I don't really want to see the movie but crap like this pisses me off. I knew there'd be a bunch of religious people bashing this movie. I don't know what their problem is, it's just a harmless movie, they should get a life.
What do you guys think about this?

Mike, I've known it for a long time and My topic about Religious backlash over Harry Potter tells all I have ta say on it. And it can be found here
http://www.joblo.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000769.html
And yea, it pisses me off as well.

I believe that they have the right to have whatever opinion they want on it. I personally think that it is sad that they look so deeply into something that really isnt there. I, myself, was raised in a Christian education (from 1st till 12th grade) and am fully aware of what they have to say. There are just some people that have such strong personal convictions that they see things out of context. (These are the same people that say that Rock Music like Nirvana are evil with their pro-drug messages and hidden subconscious messages). These beliefs are certainly not true for all of Christianity in general, but it does happen. In a way, its is somewhat admirable that they are able to stick to their convictinos. But for the most part it is sad that the people who wrote it are missing the point. Thats just my 2 cents.

I pity people like this. They're so blinded by their zeal that they have no realistic sense of the world around them. To them, everthing is a threat, to them and their way of life. It's a sad lot in life that they've chosen, and one that will never lead anywhere productive.

I know what u mean. My church told us not to go and see it. And Im like, so all the kids that see it are gonna turn into Satan worship-ers or somethink? I don't understand. I'm gonna see it anyway (God help me), the speacial FX look so cool.

Awe man!! IS THIS ALL NEW TO YOU?!?!? You've got countless hours of deep belly laughing in your near future. I love doing this... you'll never laugh so hard in your life. Go search the Internet for anything along the lines of christian movie reviews, or "family" movie reviews, or anything like that. IT'S FUCKIN' GREAT! Last week I found an awesome review of Shrek. They trashed the movie from start to end as not fit for children or adults either. They absolutly trashed the sexed-up robin hood character. They bitched about the dragon/donkey relationship. They trashed the ending saying that it's sick how her reward for finally finding true love's first kiss was that she'd now be an ogre forever. My favorite part was the part where she hit the really high-note singing to the blue-bird and the bird exploded. The person writing the review said "the audience in my particualr theatre GASPED IN HORROR at that scene and was clearly discusted by the frying of the bird's eggs in the next scene." It's the funniest shit you'll ever see if you can find the really hard-core, left wing, religious movie reviews.
The same guy who revied Shrek, also reviewed The Matrix. The guy spent the entire review explaining how the movie was CLEARLY responsible for the attack at Columbine High School a few years back. The entire review has nothing to do with the movie... just how youth sees these types of films and uses that to associate why they can kill "the good guys", and that's ok. Go ahead and look around... you'll laugh your ass off at the Jerry Falwell wannabe's out there.

I have been reading some Christian reviews and some were funny, but then I read a review for Crazy/Beautiful and I'm not laughing, I'm pissed. They said it was EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE and kids shouldn't see it. Well I highly disagree, I think teens should see it. This person was very wrong with his review and misunderstood the movie. Read the review if you want:

Naaahhh. That one was just as funny as any of them. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I love those types of reviews because they take all possible credit of intelligence away from the reviewer. These people actually sit and count the number of times the "F" word is said. How can you objectively review a film when your whole purpose in being there is simply to count the number of fucking times someone says fuck? It's like this dyslexic Robin Hood attempt at slicing blindly through the red tape in an effort to mask their eventual goal of denying the constitutional right of free speech. Oh, please...

Haha...those reviews are so funny.......they thought that Get Over It was offensive becuase of a few swearwords, some drinking and oh god heaven forbid......SMOKING!!!!! I'm gasping at the horror. These reviews are ridiculous!!!!!!
Yeah, they are pretty ridiculous. The Object Of My Affection and Boy's Don't Cry got 0 stars because it's wrong to be gay/lesbian.
And OH MY GOD, Get Over It, that movie sucked, but it wasn't offensive. American Pie got 1 star. These people need to realise that if a movie wants to be realistic then they need to have a lot of the stuff they do because teens smoke, drink, and have/talk about sex. Most do anyway, at least have/talk about sex. It's not wrong, it's only natural.

I think you missed their ridiculous point Mike. They're trying to imply (imply?) Ahem... they're outright saying that if movies didn't portray teens smoking, drinking, and having/talking about sex, then teens wouldn't drink, smoke, or have/talk about sex. This is to imply that 40 years ago, before the hollywood BOOM, teens NEVER EVER drank, smoked, or had/talked about sex.
Wait a sec... I think I just realized the reason I find them so funny...

This one takes the cake!
http://capalert.com/capreports/americanpie.htm
I read it and OH MY GOD can you say GET A LIFE. It kind of reminds me of the mom in Detroit Rock City. "Do you know what KISS stands for?" "Knights In Satans Service"... Hilarious!
Anyway, they think that teens act the way they do because of movies but that's bullshit, I know people that don't really watch movies and they acted that way when they were teens. People don't necessarily do what they see in the movies. I didn't see American Pie and go fuck a pie. Man, some people are so uptight!!!

I give anyone a right to their own opinion, but quite frankly, it’d be a lot easier to listen to the Catholic Church if they excommunicated all of their pedophile priests.
They love to take shots at hollywood... by all means, fire a few back at them:

Oh, yeah, and the Christian Spotlight people may be too picky, but they are still far more sane than the CAPalert guy.
Hey you guys, I joined one of those places to write reviews today. I know the members there will be disagreeing with me left and right. The founder of the place already disagreed with me because I recommended Legally Blonde to ages 8+, my 8 year old niece saw it and she loved it. Anyway, he wrote a review after mine and he recommeded it to 15+, 15+? Legally Blonde was pretty harmless and 15+ is a little extreme in my opinion. Anyway, I'm not a religious person so it's kind of wierd to be writing some reviews at a Christian Review club at yahoo.com but I'm doing it because I love writing reviews and I'll probably end up pissing some people off in the process. So far I wrote a review for Legally Blonde and "O". Next I'm going to write a review for Crazy/Beautiful and recommend it to teens, hell, they'll probably crucify me for that, they'll probably think it's complete filth and only recommend it to 70 year olds and up. I'm sure they'll think it's trash. But oh well, I liked it. Anyway, check out my reviews and their reviews here:
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/christianperspectiveonmovies
And no, I'm not trying to plug another site, the last thing I want to do is help them get more members.

Hi, I'm The Point of the Movie, have we met? LOL.
OH MY GOD, THEY KICKED ME OUT. HERE'S WHAT THE HEAD GUY HAD TO SAY.
Sometimes we get people who like to just review for shock value. Sometimes we get people that just want to share an opinion. Regardless, if someone does want to share for shear shock value and not really care about what others think then they will be deleted.
I don't feel it is approriate to be viewing Unrated Movies that one knows is morally offensive and wrong. That is a no brainer. I also don't believe that it is approriate to recommend Filthy movies to 8 year olds. Therefore groovymike has been deleted after his second warning. The first was for
borderline swearing in his online review.
I welcome reviews like the Harry Potter review and believe that is also beneficial to the reader to see different perspective.
But moral still come into play.
Thank you and I apologize for deleting groovymike, but I don't feel that he looked at this as a christian web club.
Take Care,
John
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT. I DIDN'T SWEAR. AND I DIDN'T RECOMMEND A FILTHY MOVIE TO 8 YEAR OLDS, I RECOMMEND LEGALLY BLONDE TO AGES 8+ AND THAT'S NOT A FILTHY MOVIE AT ALL. AND I GOT IN TROUBLE FOR REVIEWING GINGER SNAPS BECAUSE THE MOVIE IS MORALLY OFFENSIVE AND WRONG. WHATEVER! I DON'T FEEL MY REVIEWS WERE THAT BAD. DAMN THEM, I SHOULD JUST START MY OWN YAHOO MOVIE CLUB.

That's hilarious man... you rule Mike! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I loved the fact you did "O" in a christian review site (for a few reasons). First, because it's TOTALLY OFFENSIVE to anyone else there (language, sex, drinking, drugs, violence, et al). Second, because it's a Shakespeare adaptation and Shakespeare's good enough for high-school/college, but they'd like to think it's morally offensive the second it "fits the mold of today's day and age."
As it was, I think you should have been more discrete. I think you should have trashed "O" for all the swearing, sex, drinking, drugs, violence, then said, "but it's a great adaptation of the original Shakespeare play, and I give it 4.5/5 for that!" As if was, I can see why the guy didn't take you seriously and accused you of reviewing for "shock value".
PS - If I were you... I'd e-mail him a link to THIS discussion thread... so he can see what you're all about. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I replied to your message. Of course I did lie to the guy and say I was a Christian who wanted to review movies to warn people. I'm not very religious at all and nothing really offends me. But oh well.

You are so right, that's what I should have done. Damn, it's too late now. I did start my own club though called Mike's Movie Reviews Club but so far I don't have any members. I invited Kenc_97 (psudoazn) to join. Anyway, any of you guys that want to join can. And yes, I should have told him to come to www.joblo.com, (http://www.joblo.com,) this is the BEST site on the net, I bet if he came here though he'd probably feel like a fish out of water.
This guy is such a HUGE prude! Legally Blonde for 15+, that's really stupid!!!

He BANNED us, he thinks we are the same person.
He sent me this e-mail:
Dude you show the most bogus example of Christ I have seen in recent years. Please grow up and get lost.

Damn, that's so sad, I really wanted to be a part of that club[End Sarcasm]
Oh well. Here's a link to a better club, my club, and it's not a Christian one.

You know JohnKehrli...
It's not very Christian of you to call Mike (our VERY good friend) a 'freak' or a 'jerk'. Does the Bible not CLEARLY tell us to 'love thy neighbor'? However, we won't hold it against you because it's most likely just foul language brought on by years of exposure to filthy Hollywood films when you were clearly too young to be exposed to that sort of a film. Clearly not your fault.
Not to mention, by adding a link to your own website, you're violating the SPAM rule here at JoBlo.com... That was also not very Christian of you to lie when you agreed to the membership rules here (upon signing up). Did the Bible not tell us 'thou shalt not lie'? I remember that part. However, once again, we shall forgive you.
Now go forth and continue Christ's work, my friend.

Ah well, we really shouldn't be picking fights like this anyway, it's not very productive. JoBlo's probably not going to be a happy man when he reads this topic.
Well, that's over now. Let's try to get back on subject now.
